Maxxius reacted to bearback in calendar improvements
calendar improvements are needed as the present calendar is very basic and overlooked on upgrades
just something i would like to see is....
when theres an event in the calendar, the date highlighted and to be able to hover over the
date and see a popup preview of the event on that day.
The option would be very useful when shown as side block on the main index.
Maxxius reacted to Arnie in Automatic databse repair
We occasionally get a database error once in a blue moon. We run a >3Gb database and sometimes tables like ibf_core_markers can be left locked in use by mysql. It's a simple fix to just flag a repair in phpmyadmin.
When IPB gets errors and puts up the database error page saying "there appears to be an error with the database" it'd be real nice if it booted a lossless automatic check/repair routine.
Here's the example error page: http://img403.imageshack.us/i/arnieserror.jpg/
Would it be possible in a future IPB release to tie the error page to a simple automated check/repair mysql system? In the case of simple errors the forum could fix things, log it and email the admins. In the case of more serious errors it could email the admins to let them know the board had a DB error. Obviously I'm talking about a lossless mysql check/repair routine here that'd clear simple things like locked tables etc.
Maxxius reacted to Kevin Heatwole in New Facebook Registration Best Practtices
Facebook has updated its Registration plug-in for developers to help streamline the way users can sign up for accounts on a site and connect those accounts with Facebook.
I really hope that IPB adds support for this feature soon. I think this is a much better way to register rather than having people "login with facebook" and trying to auto-create the account using the facebook info. Using this method the new member will clearly know what information is being copied into your website and we can easily request extra information to be requested from the user in a single form.
Any chance we will see an update to IPB soon that incorporates this updated registration method?
I haven't been following this board much recently, so let me know if this has already been discussed or implemented. I'm really anxious to have this support for a site I'm working on currently.
Maxxius reacted to bfarber in IP Board need a language comparison tool for INT users
I'm not 100% sure what changes we will see in 3.2 for language management just yet, however I know the language manager needs a good bit of work still. It's on my todo list, I just can't say yet when we'll get to it.
Maxxius reacted to Koyakami in Multi-Community Forums In One
I've been using my forums for gaming related boards (Founder of gaming clan) but at the same time i'm also looking to have a 'Bikers' area.
Gamers aren't really interested in bikes and bikers in most cases of which I know, don't really want to come on the forums and have gamers ruining their message boards about bikes.
I know you can setup the forums and have permissions on so gamers only see games area and bikers see the biker forums BUT, what i'm after is abit complex but should be possible!
This is either someone can create a MOD or IP have this in future release.
I want users being able to sign up on our forums, during registration, they'll have all the normal information to enter BUT they have these three options.
'I'm a Gamer'
'I'm a Biker'
'I'm both a Biker/Gamer'
and all three choices lead to different areas of the board. Once they select their option and complete registration, they have the following permissions and access:
'I'm a Gamer' -> Can only view the gaming side of the forums
'I'm a Biker' -> Can only view the bikers side of the forums
'I'm both a Biker/Gamer' -> Views the full forum
But it's a chance for people who want to have bigger boards with different sides of the community in one.
Look forward to peoples replies.
Maxxius reacted to lunchbox67 in Suggestion: Allow users to remove themselfs.
I tell them no.
If they don't wanna use the board they can put on their big girl panties and just NOT USE THE BOARD.
I will go in and change their e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org so no one will be able to contact them thru the board.
And I will delete any other personal info in their profile.
If they stay away for 12 months they will fall into the inactive users group.
Maxxius reacted to LeadCrow in Topic Prefixes - Are they coming or not?
Kinda sad to see people crusading against basic features that benefit those who use its organisation and search filtering merits.
Even if implemented, prefixes would already be 'off by default' (since no prefixes are created). 'guess haters still gonna keep hating.
Observation can lead to all sorts of conclusions or actions from IPS. Rushed comments may ruffle the feathers of either customers or the modder.
There's still no reason why such core features would be the exclusive domain of any person or, by virtue of existing, should forbid IPS from implementing this important feature.
Mirrored features in forum apps tend to be so due to used features from other software. If vbulletin users looking to migrate need prefixes, thats reason enough already to have it (the usefulness of prefixes shouldnt be considered limited to only existing customers among those who use prefixes, and who by chance found this thread and posted comments as well).
Maxxius reacted to chuckf in Please clean up obsolete files
Can you guys clean up obsolete files when you install new versions?
For example, I just installed Download Manager 2.3.1 over the top of an older version. The admin/applications_addon/ips/downloads/modules_public/ajax folder on my site has a comments.php file in it but that file is not in the 2.3.1 zip file. There are several other old DM files on my site.
I ran into the same problem with an add-on I wrote. I used the version_upgrade.php file to delete my obsolete files. Can you guys do the same or something similar?
Maxxius reacted to Enkidu in IPB 3.1.5 ever coming?
No offence too but I think you meant to say Apple rather than M$ (If we have a phone with dead spot then argue that all mobiles have dead spots).
You're missing the point here. The point here is that there are basic features that are simply broken or don't behave as expected like VNC. VNC is a basic feature of any forum software. Would you buy a mobile phone that can't let you search your contacts if the maker promised to fix it six months from now?
Maxxius reacted to desti in IPB 3.1.5 ever coming?
I use IPB since 2.3.1 and never saw completely working and "bug-free" release! I pay money, but what I have? I finance your lovely hobby or buy software?
I don't want next 3.2.x (full of new bugs), i want working 3.1.4, want patches for each found error, want "fixed in 3.1.4"!!! I ready to apply patches every day and every hour, but not ready to search for your errors and to correct them.
I already hate 3.2.х because I represent, how many new problems there will appear! I want to have a rest from IPB, I want to receive release which works!
You have arranged "race", trying not to lag behind competitors, but buyers and users of a boards suffer from it.
Excuse for my English.
Maxxius reacted to Jeuhen in Topic Prefixes
Last year there has been a topic floating around about Topic Prefixes. Opinions were different about this
subject so now i've decided to open up a public Poll. Would you want Topic Prefixes to be implented in the
software as a core function or would you rather not have it or would you not care about it. Let the community know!
In reply to fishfish's quote this topic has been made. Just out of curiousity.
As for myself, i would love to see this as a core function. Leave your replies and votes too!
Maxxius reacted to 7SiN in Improved warning system - Predetermined points for punishments
On my site, we have various warnings/infractions worth certain points. So that way saying a cuss word is worth 1 point and someone flaming a staff member is worth 7. Now, we have around 15 things that if people do something, they receive x points. It's hard for my staff to refer back and forth from one page to the next to determine what they deserve. And then looking at the point total they currently have + points given, then looking at our break down as to when they reach x point they receive x days of suspension...well it gets rather cumbersome and I think the software could do this very easily and make the life of all forum owners much easier.
Things I would like to see in bullet form (easier to read :P ):
1. Make a list of infractions/warnings to give out and put a point total to it so there is no discrepancy between each staff member (some are more harsh than others so that helps).
2. Allow it to be a verbal warning without increasing the point value.
3. In the post, show that that post was what was given with the warning. In the note in the warning, it should automatically include this link for other staff/admin team to review to see if there is a shady staff member picking on people he doesn't personally like.
4. Set a suspensions/bans for various point levels. I.E. 10 points = 1 week suspension, 20 points = 3 weeks, 30 = 2 months, 40 = 1 year, etc
5. Set the warnings on the persons profile for staff to preview.
6. Set the warnings in the user control panel for user to see why they were given a warning.
Sorry if this was suggested already. I'm in a crunch for time and post this quickly.
Maxxius reacted to CheersnGears in IPB 3.1.5 ever coming?
So basically, we have to live with a major function of the software not functioning as intended, hurting our traffic for many months (as stated in your 3.2 development announcement)? It really is a major feature that most users utilize.
It's costing me revenue, yet I'm going to have to keep paying for support to get the fix to something that used to work properly.
