how do I find out WHEN my suite expires? and how much time should pass before anything is considered up for renewal and not reactivation?

this is still very unclear to me and it still does not answer to this question: why should I pay for catching up when I actually never got new versions and got no support.

other than wolfie who seems to agree with everything IPS has to say, did anyone else understand the above statement because i know i didnt, i must be getting stupid in my old age because that was as clear as mud. who the heck thought up such a convoluted way of doing it...

the way it looks to a layman (me, who doesnt have a degree in crytic algorithms) is that im paying twice and not even getting my 6 months worth when i do pay.. or at least thats how it sounds reading between the lines anyhow...

Payment systems should be simple and transparent and not have to be explained in a three hour math lecture.. and to me at least looking at my client area and what i have to pay now is far from that..
its a shame because ive been with IPB a long time and its right put me off. I know im stuck using IPB for my established site so im going to start thinning it out a bit, getting rid of the blogs for instance to get the cost down and unfortunatly for my second site im planning im going to have to go somewhere else for that, which is a real shame as far as im concerned..

Please don't get me wrong but this is the most stupid way.

You are basically forcing users to Renew all scripts at once or if you choose to renew one later on , you are cutting the 6 month renewal to your desired amount so the end user is basically cheated.

It is a shame for IPB to follow this route to make extra money.

In addition to being something that is unclear on how it needs to be implemented, it's an EU law only. If IPS was forced to write their software which complied with EU laws, then they'd need to comply with every other set of laws as well. I would not be surprised if some countries had laws that said that every page must contain the text "All hail our benevolent leader" on it somewhere, would IPS need to comply with that as well?

The EU is a major source of the customer base of IPS, obviously, but at the end of the day I think it is more up to individual site owners who operate in the EU to comply with EU law than it is IPS's responsibility.

    Few Suggestions:

    1. Exception list - I know a few users who I'd like to be able to add manually to an exception list for this modification. - I think this one's very important.

    2. Perhaps logging? Some form of feature that shows you which users are blocking adverts?

    3. Have a setting so that Instead of showing the nag popup every time they visit, perhaps only show it once every hour, and for the rest of the time allow them to browse normally? I wouldn't want to give users a complete ultimatum of turn off adblock or leave, i'd just want to pester them every hour or so to turn it off.

Just giving a rough idea here. Others can post their suggestions as well.

In the meantime you can edit the XML file on line 18:

    <bbcode_menu_option_text><![CDATA[background's colour ( #EDEDED )]]></bbcode_menu_option_text>

Adding a suggestion to enter colors like green, blue, etc.

Edit: You can't put a '#' before a simple color name.

Edit2: I would change the recommendation to black since the other simple colors make terrible backgrounds.

Bah, I see that the structure of the links still kinda suck.. I remember that Matt (if I'm not mistaken) talked about changing the string in the URL when there's pagination.
Here's an example from that 3.4 board:

http://internal34dev.invisionzone.com/topic/32-discovering-new-page-style/page-2 He wanted to do it like that as he one mentioned, and it's better way to do it for SEO:

Maxxius reacted to Wolfie in Enhancement to Custom Fields
In an effort to make custom fields more friendly and more easily open to newer chat mediums, there should be an extra field in the profile fields configuration for how to display/format the data when shown on the persons profile.

Also, there should be field 'types' available that do the same thing. The way it works now is that mediums such as AIM and MSN are hard coded into the skin templates. If something ever needed to be changed, then it would need to be changed not only in one skin, but many custom skins as well. With this other method, simply changing it within the custom fields section will fix it in all skins on the board.

Per custom field, add another setting that would be similar to the topic view option, except it would be for the profile view.

Doing it in groups or types, admin would add a type (say "aim" for example) and then would add how the data is formatted. Then if the admin wishes to have 4 or 5 AIM fields, they only need to put in the key type (like "aim"). Okay, sounds to work the same as it does now, but here's the difference.

Adding new mediums and how they are handled would be MUCH easier. Adding things like a persons name on FaceBook or Twitter would be much easier, not to mention GoogleTalk, MySpace, etc.

If the person only has to put in part of the URL (for websites), then it can be formatted to look much nicer rather than seeing lots of http://www.domain.com/some/path/to/myuseridname across the place.

The reason for having it in both the individual field settings and as a 'type' setting is simple. If the admin is only going to use it once, no need to have it as a 'type', but if they're going to use it more than once or if it's a popular standard, then perhaps it could be added for them (xml import?) so they don't have to figure out how to format it.

Also, would look much nicer than a bunch of <if> statements in the profile fields template bit.

One thing I've never understood is why the 'member list' is considered an important enough area of a forum to be placed second in the navigation. Why is it even in the navigation?

I don't think I've ever actually used the member list on a forum. If I want to find a specific user, I'll use the search feature. Unless I'm missing some amazing feature within the member list, It just seems like an utterly pointless feature to me.

Wouldn't it be cool to have this filter menu to slide down together as you scroll down to see remaining new content just as Facebook's top line is always 'following' you. Because once you scroll down to see the list it disappears and you have to go back up to change it. Just my initial idea. Its up to you whether to use it or not.

    File Submitted: 21 Jul 2012
    File Category: Hooks and Plugins

This modification allows you to specify a single or multiple restricted groups. It also allows you to specify which groups you define as "Staff".

The restricted groups maintain access to the messenger, but they cannot create new PMs, and can only receive PMs from users within a "Staff" group.

    Features:
Choose whether to allow the restricted users to reply to a PM they receive or not. When set to no, the editor to create a reply in the conversation will not even show. Optionally modify Messenger templates and AJAX drop down box on the fly to remove "Compose" links (note that it does not remove the "Send Message" links from profile and hovercard, but these cannot be used). No-one can PM someone who is restricted unless they are staff, this includes attempting to invite them to a PM. A restricted user cannot create new PMs at all, and can optionally be allowed to reply to PMs they receive. Also stops the user sending a message via profile. Helpful feedback messages for other users who may attempt to PM a restricted user. Fully utilises languages system to enable non-English use. If wanted, allow restricted members to compose a new PM to staff members.

While this hook is free, it took some hours to create and test, so Paypal donations are always welcome to webmaster [at] peteruk [dot] net

NOTE: Existing PMs will be unaffected, so if a restricted user already has an open PM with another user and you allow restricted users to reply to PMs, then they will be able to communicate with eachother. I may patch this out in a later version if feedback dictates it is a problem.

I don't see why it would be standard in software that is aimed at being professional. Doing a mass PM, IMO, is akin to a kid forwarding one of those annoying chain-IM's to everyone on their contact list, at least when compared to a professional grade product. If it's something someone wants as an extra (add-on, as it is), then I don't find it to be anywhere near as bad, because it's being added in as an extra instead of as a stock feature. If I want/need to send out a mass message, I'll do it via the bulk mail option. Something else to consider is that people may have opted to not receive admin emails on purpose, while still opting to receive PM notifications. Doing a mass PM will, in effect, not honor the members preference by means of a 'loop-hole' and could be abused by admins wanting to do that very thing.

If it were to ever be included in IPB, then unless it's already been added in (just not blogged about yet), the odds are extremely unlikely that it'll be in the 3.4 series. Since there have been new features blogged (announced) for 3.4, it means that those features have already been added, which means the IPS internal roadmap has already been finalized (feature locked). Not saying it 100% won't be added if it hasn't already, just extremely unlikely. I've seen a couple of minor features added in here and there after the next version has already been feature locked, but for the most part, once we're seeing announcements for upcoming features, it's past the point of new stuff being added for that version.

To be honest though, I hope that IPS doesn't ever add this. If they do, I trust that they will take into account the fact that people who opt out of receiving admin emails will be annoyed if admins are able to get around it via a mass PM.

You might need to do another one, I think he blinked so he missed the magic.

What Aiwa meant to say was this...

    When It's Ready™

To give you a rough idea though, since there haven't even been any public beta releases of 3.4, I wouldn't count on it being out before December, and that's not saying to look for it in December (most likely after December), only that it will be awhile.

Here's a breakdown of the process for you, based on my observations (your mileage may vary)... When the next version of IP.Board is complete or near complete, it will be in the alpha testing stage. In the past, IPS has sometimes provided a site for clients to visit to see/test the front end (doesn't always happen, so don't hold me to it). At some point in the development, IPS will install it on this community and then it will reach a point that it will be available to the QA team and then eventually betas will be available for all clients to download and test out (but with a disclaimer that it is NOT meant to be installed on a live community - I urge you to take that warning seriously, some people ignore it and regret it because it doesn't qualify for support).

If you're not interested in following the process that closely, then here's a simple rule of thumb to keep in mind: Before a version is available for clients to test though, as with point updates, you will see it being used on this community first.

I think it says a lot when a company is confident enough in it's own product to use it before expecting its clients to start using it. After all, how likely are you to trust a piece of software that the developing company won't even use? Not only that, but with the number of people using this community, any unforeseen bugs have a greater chance of being discovered and fixed before being available to the clients.

I do have a piece of advice about upgrades though. When a ".0" version becomes available, don't install it on your live community, at least not right away. Instead, do an upgrade using a development/test site using a backup copy of your live community. Then invite a select group of members to test it out and report any issues they find to you and the see if any of those issues have already been reported (and if not, report them yourself). A few days after the release, check the bug tracker and see if there are any bugs that you consider to be "deal breakers" for you. If there are, then wait for the next (.1) release. Before I do an upgrade regardless of the version (.0, .1, etc), I wait a few days and see if anyone reports any bugs that are serious or that have a possibility of affecting me. As the point versions progress, you'll usually notice fewer and fewer bugs reported (.0 could have, say, 200 reported and fixed, then .1 might have 150, .2 with 125, etc). Also, you'll usually notice that the times between the releases will either be the same or start taking longer (2 weeks, 3 weeks, a month, etc). Not always the case but is the usual pattern.

(Looks up.) Didn't mean for it to get this long, but I hope you find all of it useful. How things actually go will tend to vary each time, but should give you an idea of what to expect. Oh and, welcome to the IPS world, in the long run you'll be happy about switching over.

    Hi,

I'M not eligible to comment on the Main topic of the new 3.4 SEO improvements. so i leave the feedback here with more specific and targeted suggestion.

The new URL structure is 3.4 are:

it will be more nice and relevant and can getting high rank in SEs if the URL new structure will be.

instead using "topic" word in URLS make this word very higher and rich keyword for any IP.Board site. so our natural keyword actually low-down due to these few keywords that showing in every topic, forums, profile urls.

and the same pattern use for forum and profile.

instead using structure that called the word "forum" and "user"

Use simple high and only useful keyword URL.

search engine showing this URL "board.com/123/title/" like "board.com/../title/" but this URL which have word will be showing exactly like "board.com/forum/123-title/" because according to search engines these words "topic, forum, user" are the most detectable keywords.

This change will be very SEO friendly with quality productivity.

Also, make another modification builten that offer manual permanent 301 to any url. for example if we want to redirect some of the 3 old event topic to the new event topic. so can add the link in admin CP that permanent redirect them.

I Hope, you consider this useful suggestion.
