There is not a direct benefit. It’s a programming tool. However there are indirect benefits such as it is less likely that certain customizations break your site when upgrading.  It can simplify things for developers who can make resource’s potentially easier and in less time.
Basically it’s a developer tool… your benefit comes from the output of the developers using it. 🙂

The big advantage with GraphQL over REST is that you can tell it what data you want to return, instead of getting loads of data that you probably don't need. You can also fine tune your queries better to search the graph data. As a non-programmer, I can't think of a scenario where you would directly benefit. Maybe if you were integrating an external service that used GraphQL

Excellent update! I'm excited about this, and I think given the 100's of gallery improvement posts and topics over the years, you've done a great job in identifying where to start and what to prioritise.
Thank you for sorting the obviously long overdue UI issues, especially the navigation and Lightbox. Hopefully it won't be as intrusive autoloading. Great to see it less crowded. I was intending to add integration with AWS Rekognition to create image tags, so that's a nice touch.
Gallery has always been a good app, better than most in terms of functionality but it needed these modern updates every is now so used from the best WP galleries. Less JS is hugely welcome, even if less reliance on JQuery for vanilla JS, and finally native lazyloading; please add that throughout the suite immediately!
Looking forward to seeing more of the category, album and image layouts. Will there be a choice of layouts in terms of masonry, grid, filterable etc?
Any plans for Gallery integration with Commerce?
A great start to modernising this app. 😋

He's already made it quite clear who this is aimed at in his examples and there are no surprises.
Get used to it most of you on this forum and those who never visit are a side hustle and beta testers and also free adverts (because of branding and backlink) for Invision Community.

It's not big ask - from AlexWebsites, Adriano and many others to clearly indicate in blog title - Cloud only feature.

i have around 15 licences and pay a small fortune and now being restricted? I am also been using invision for 17 odd years or more and now feel like Invision do not appreciate loyal customers.

It's not easy making money from communities and I would imagine some really do struggle and having a cloud solution really doesn't work for them.

    Slight sour taste now.

Like so many have said, I also support the model that Invision is headed with its hosted cloud offering, and most of us are commercial forum operators and appreciate the business necessity for revenue and hopefully profit.
Many of us have also established that the current Cloud offering is not suitable for us, or cost prohibitive with what we have invested already in servers. I couldn't switch from one to another because of other necessities with our server and architecture. So it would be more than doubling our expenses to even consider it, not to mention custom apps/plugins some of us need to do what we do - which we also couldn't do on cloud.
What I would love to see is a compromise. Look at what some of us spend/have spent in the Marketplace though. We don't mind paid bolt ons and add ons. Many of us would be prepared to pay for these new features. In the marketplace via AdminCP, I wouldn't hesitate hitting a subscribe button on certain features and paying a monthly fee for some of them. This is revenue that is currently being lost for Invision by the self-hosted customers that are never going to migrate to Cloud.
Similarly, when it comes to support, which I often need - I once sang Invision's praises about how efficient and comprehensive Support was on this platform. I even at times wondered how they did it, so cheaply. So I could see why they had to change these processes. But like my above suggestion, why not add either a paid ongoing Support plan, or an ad-hoc paid Priority support option. Either of those I would also subscribe to. My recent support issue took 12 days to get a response with - glad it was only a small bug affecting the user experience in our community. But, in Invision's defence, I'm only paying them $85 every 6 months so you get what you pay for. But that just highlights the problem in my opinion. Either put up the self-hosted fee based on support's estimated costs are (you've got the data) and you'll win on some and lose on others, or offer a dedicated support package and charge accordingly.
I do hope there are some changes implemented in regards to the above because it's clear there is a growing discontent in the self-hosted community. After nearly 20 years as a customer, I myself am reluctant to invest any further and am sad to admit I have more recently started investigations into alternative long term alternatives - though my preference it to remain loyal but with a workable solution for both the provider and the consumer found.

We tried to pay our staff solely in high fives and compliments but it wasn't popular due to it not being a legal form of currency for rent and bills. Shame really, because it really lifted the vibe.

Would be curious to know what complexity is involved in the setup on Cloud that makes offering this to self hosted unviable?  Again this would seem like an example of allowing for optional feature enabling AND a setup guide for what's required even on a self hosting solution versus offering it ONLY on Cloud.  Just a bad look and approach, at some point it's going to start snowballing against IPS.  Choice vs no choice...IPS is forcing the latter for its own customers.
This reminds of the employer/employee relationship.  Employers should ensure they're fairly compensating their employees.   Once there's signs to the contrary, employees will start to interview and out of shear principle, when they find even an "equal" option, they're likely to leave for it.  Then the company will try to make good ONLY when they are given the letter of resignation, but by then it's too late.

From what I understand only for communities with a someone paid plan. So this not be available for self-hosted instances.
By the way, they should mark these types of articles with the information that the features are only available to CLOUD users.

I will leave my two cents here. There is virtually zero way I would be moving to the cloud hosting.
If us the self-hosted guys would be left for dead at IPS 5 - I'd cling to the latest version like to many sites did when vB went kaput. Until a more viable option comes along like converting to something else if said latest IPS version becomes too obsolete after some time. Hope it does not come to this because I truly love IPS and what it brings to the table. But hobbyist niche type of forum owners just can't justify cloud prices at least in my case. It is what is is.
I understand your need to make some things cloud-exclusive but please do not cripple self hosted holders in the long run depriving them of some really cool and necessary features. An idea would be make some features available after a year or something later while cloud users get priority.

Now just add real time views and typing to self hosting and I'll sign a NCA (Non-crying agreement) for an entire year.
