Point of advice, keep the login and feature rich portions as 2 separate installable applications. Keeps maintaining the code base faster and easier for both.

Talk to the author and see if they are willing to set it up as an open source repo. If so, I’ll be able to contribute to help get it updated. The original author deserves the credit on their profile, and to set the license, but I can assist.

I use webmin, set up with proxies, firewalled, and secured using ssh login. All said and done you can only access it from local host on a random port you assign. 🙂 security of your control panel is paramount. Especially when you use a free one.

I don’t run near as much as you, nor popular enough. I mostly run private applications. Some that do require some power, but they aren’t IPS applications or a competing product. ( CYA there ).

As for OS, I prefer Ubuntu. Easier to work with, and has a wider variety of tools available. I’d like to think it would give you the freedom to employ any tool available to squeak all the performance you can.

This is where your analogy falls short. IPS software does allow conflicts (duplicates), per SQL.

I’m not saying there isn’t logic in the software to attempt to stop this, but in this instance those checks fail. Dev rule of thumb, make required logic as close to the DB as possible. MySQL has limitations with regards to foreign keys, but it does allow multiple unique constraints columns in a table.

I think this has probably gone a little off topic now.
Martin - Good luck to whatever you do in the future, and thank you for you feedback. Always appreciated 🙂
For any other items, please feel free to use the feedback forum, or indeed the deprecation discussion where some of these items have been discussed at length.

Good luck Martin and my best wishes.
Way back before 2001 IP forum was free, and indeed need add on to make it shine, but the design was clean so I use it, do not know when it start to be a payment software but I recall I registered here 2002. (yes it say here 2005 but that @Matt fault by combine my 2 accounts) 🙂
The marketplace did not come that time, most of my modifications was custom one.
IPS still great and shine with it support personals, some left, some are here and some join lately, they are great and that to my point of view worth it all. I am not a cloud customer, but self hosted one.
IPS like a woman, you do not maybe love or hate, but they are no escape.

I believe key is a reserved keyword in MySQL. Try this.
    \IPS\Db::i()->delete( 'core_tasks', array ('`key`=? AND app=?','steamCleanup','steam') )

Two years later and people still don't know how to get back to the top of a web page on their devices? The Internet must be a confusing bottom-of-page place.

A detriment to the devs will be the loss of all the reviews their plugin/apps have generated. It would be a nice gesture on IPS' behalf if there was a way to salvage them.

I’m a little disappointed, I was just getting going again. I’ll likely move everything to a public GitHub repo. Forgo the transaction troubles that have plagued the MP. As a hobbyist, that still works in corporate America, doing so will build a profile for the job market.
I have heard the same financials from IPS staff over many many years, regarding the MP viability. It’s not something they’ve made up just now for justification.

If I was a new developer trying to gain trust, I'd spend some time in the community being helpful and getting to know people. You can quite quickly gain trust this way and then start to offer your services and products.

Quality, thought out, support isn’t in real time. Perfect example, stack overflow. A thought out response in a forum setting lends to higher quality. Because group think picks it apart. No single source, in real time, will ever provide that quality.

I use MS Teams at work to bounce ideas off other devs 1:1, but still we typically hold a 15 min team meeting, with the whole team, to agree on an approach/solution for those challenges that are beyond the norm.
