  1. Fully agree. IPB please listen to your customers and their clients.
  2. I agree. Another reason I am holding off upgrading.
  3. Can you tell us if you expect Cleancut to be released withni 1-3 months. 3-6 months. I do not mean this to be a disrespect, but the default IPB 3.x skin is just too difficult to "mod" into the look I want without massive modifications. Cleancut will require not only less modifications but additionally just "makes more sense" from a layout and ease of use perspective. Knowing a "release date range" for this is important to me because I have three boards I am holding off on (2.3.6 now) upgrading until this happens.
  4. :P I only post here when I am passionate on an issue I guess. Mostly I save my time for the forums I work with outside of here. I am glad that IPB will be officially supporting the skin. I hope that they release it soon. @IPB: Any idea on when you will be releasing it?
  5. Yeah the usability (ease to find things) in the "clean cut" skin is much better IMO. I was contemplating a massive amount of work to redo the old skin and now this may make that not as big a deal. When will this be released? I will be waiting to upgrade to 3.x from 2.3.6 on this one. Oh and to IPB. Please do not take it as bad if some of us find the new skin better than the one IPB, Inc made. If anything be proud that you have a community that is willing to provide back to you such great ideas and work.
  6. Will you officially support updates to this skin as you release revisions of 3.x?
  7. I can't tell every member this though. It would be nice to have a link on the forum page by default that says "View New Posts". Also a direct link to the Messenger. People complain they can not find it (new users especially don't even know it is there). I find on the new skin that things are burried too deep in the GUI and the frequently used items are hard to find.
  8. "Clean Cut" SKin is GREAT!!! Should be the DEFAULT skin for IPB 3.x! Everyone can check it out in the lower left of the board (can select it from the drop down). It is very clean and nice. It fits MUCH closer to the previous IPB 2.x and yet seamlessly integrates the new IPB features into it. I will wait until it is released to upgrade my IPB 2.3.6 boards. I was having a hell of a time making the new skin work and look anything like my old board. This new skin will do the job and require less tweaking to accomplish this. I hate having to make radical changes as it complicates future upgrades. This will solve this issue. I also want to point out than from a "user GUI ease of use" the CLEAN CUT skin just seems to make more sense to me on where things are placed. I can find things faster and it just seems to work well. I hope IPB sees it this way to and can consider making it THE default skin.
  9. "New Posts Since Last Visit" Missing in IPB 3.x.... Why? My members really want this and also "active topics". When they come back to the site most of them go for these links immediately to find out "what's new" and "what's hot" since they last visited.
  10. I guess I am selfish, but page views == greater advertising monetization of your site. Logical (but not needless) page views such as when a user submits a new post or changes pages (xx posts per thread) result in an opportunity to monetize your site. The online advertising industry does not have a good way to deal with ajax actions (like a page reload) right now, there for excessive AJAX can reduce (without cause) the monetization of your site.
  11. I noticed that the "date" columns in the relevant tables are indexed. With that being true I added the following to my search_mysql_ftext.php file (~ line 608): if ($this->is->prune == 0 || $this->is->prune == '') { $this->is->prune = 360; $this->ipsclass->input['prune'] = 360; } Doing this will override any time no date range is specified and limits all search results to the last year. Because the dates are indexed in the tables this should greatly reduce the number of rows that have to be searched thus speeding up search time and reducing server load. I would suggest that IPB add such a field (make the 360 above a variable) to the Admin Control Panel. For most people a date like one year is reasonable and the trade is to have faster searches and lower server loads. I think people would use it :)!
  12. What if the "moved link" could be changed to have its "last posted time" reset every time the other topic is updated. That would bump the topic (moved link). You could maybe changed the "moved" language file to "copy" and then it would give the same illusion as cross posting. You could have this option in the member post screen and behind the scenes it would simply create the post and then move it... (leaving the "copy" link behind).
  13. So I took a look at the 2.3.6 IPB database and I understand what changes are needed on the dB side. I think a comma delimited field is not the way to go as you can no longer use a select statement to get topics for a given forum. It might be useful to have a second field for a single "alternate forum". I suggest changing the ibf_topics table to add the field: forum_id_alt This field will contain the alternate forum id (if any) that can be added when a topic is created or edited. There will likely need to be a change to the MYSQL query that gathers the topics in a forum when people view a forum. Right now the query (simplified) is probably something like this: Select * from ibf_topics where forum_id = '$forum' order by '$sort_criteria' limit $start_count, $end_count and it will need to be: Select * from ibf_topics where (forum_id = '$forum' or forum_id_alt = '$forum') order by '$sort_criteria' limit $start_count, $end_count There are lots of other things to change like when you view a topic show the correct forum that you are in (in the bread crumb trail). But the above change is the main one. Also you will need add the mysql/php/form queries to allow the user to select and submit the alternate forum when creating/editing a topic.
  14. I had a thought for a new feature that I believe would be useful to some people. There is always the case where a person posts but the topic fit more than one forum. Members will either post the same topic in both forums or a moderator will move the topic as they feel fit. My suggestion is to add an option to allow the topic to be cross posted in several forums. Technically you would add a mysql field (or make the current forumid field a comma separated list) that would contain the corss posted forumid's. The default would be the current forum but members would be allowed to add more forums the topic would show up in (max limit set by the ACP). I think that technically this is not that hard to do (when displaying topics/posts simply parse that field first to find if the topic is in there -- or even easier if there is a hard limit of two forums and a second "alternate forumid" is created). I am not sure on the added CPU Loading (prob not that much as there is not an additional mysql call (simply a php parsing of a comma seperated list). I know there are lots of little details to add when implementing but I hope I expressed the idea well enough. I don't think it would require a massive rewrite (only a change to a couple of specific functions). Thoughts?
  15. I am sure this is true of many people, but Google indexes the lofi version very well and I get a lot of incoming traffic from there. Also when you consider advertising income on the lofi pages this is actually a fairly significant dollar figure that would be eliminated. The click through rate from what I have seen is much higher on the lofi pages versus the regular forums. Thoughts?
