    I agree with your polls issue, It bothered me so much on my personal forums that I manually edited the skin to move it down.

    Here is what my reply field looks like:

    That would suck, especially if you do it by accident and were no where near ready to submit the post.

    Saying "thank you" is common courtesy. You know, it's one of those things that makes us human. No, you don't need to go out of your way to thank the cable company unless you feel the need - but refusing to do so, when given the chance, simply because you paid them money is what disturbs me. I honestly find it hard to believe that I'm actually debating this. Courtesy is one of the few similarities between all cultures and ignoring it simply because you think you're entitled to arrogance after forking out money for services is what gets me.

    I'm not here to argue whether or not IPS has been doing it's job or not, but I find the whole idea behind "I paid them to do what they're doing, I don't need to thank them" to be revolting and just shows what kind of person you are.

    Collin1000 reacted to Nick² in IP.Subscriptions Suggestions
    I have a few suggestions that would greatly improve the usability of IP.Subscriptions. One would be the ability to select groups allowed to purchase a specific package. Also, packages that are free would not go through a payment gateway (working on a custom gateway for free packages for now). Free packages are a good way to allow users to join a specific group that doesn't necessarily have any premium benefits (sort of like a volunteer group).

    No it isn't, it's an unparallelled pain in the rear. The software's unencoded, so anyone who doesn't legitimately have a license would just remove the screen asking for the key anyway, and it'd just become to IPB what the CD key is to Windows - a pain in the butt for legitimate users and a 30 second hack for illegitimate users.

    You can count that as disagreement.

    So it seems that pretty much everything but the status updates (and maybe signatures ) support reporting (usually from an easy to see button). Why can't status updates be reported as abuse?

    For an example, look at your status updates here...

    Ok now... seriously why do people (may be just you) keep using the spoiler tag for almost every post they make? If you saw a movie that someone has not seen and didn't want to spoil certain details, that's what it's for. Otherwise the use over-use of the spoiler tag on this forum is getting irritating.

    Collin1000 reacted to tranceandy in Improve IPB Security?
    I was reading the Wordpress Whitepaper v1.2 at BlogSecurity.net and read some useful tips to making Wordpress more secure. My question is could/would any of these recomendations make IPB more secure? I have also included what I know about already :D

    For example:

    [*]They mention when creating the database user to only give GRANT SELECT,INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE,CREATE,DROP permissions. Is this the same for IPB?[*]With regards to the sql tbl prefix:

    $INFO['sql_tbl_prefix'] = ''; Is this safe to have blank, just something like ibf_, ipb_ etc or would it be better as they suggest to have something more random i.e 95MkN8 to prevent database injection threats?[*]They also have the ability for generating secret keys at which creates something like this for Wordpress.

    https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/
    define('AUTH_KEY', 'l4Zyc=XP3D4C1b`#k~Zj1TYh,dT/C/:9+{wx,ZhVXI]8!O7VIXDjs]iPhpPx[zmp'); define('SECURE_AUTH_KEY', ')EU[Nf`FRl9mYvh4Xzc.h:2DI`Jv-v!5l27d=]Ks1K$f{}3z/|a:o-d2pedu.Dyq'); define('LOGGED_IN_KEY', 'Z/=ujR`e^1fuGnb[4} 4FP!ASkozQ~>(!~Xbd@4coz-Kp ,07%|O;_xSWw`p13&m'); define('NONCE_KEY', ' g-y+$I&WBL?nD4.;Xw<f:x|*36FDEn9<)D<6EFO~vE_BlN6Uta?F2Y_`(]dQD-L');

    I think IPB has something like this from what I remember but wasn't too sure so thought I would mention it [*]Creating a very secure password for the Admin CP, FTP, MySQL etc goes without saying but how many people actually do? I generate a 16 alphanumeric password with special characters included.[*]Restrict access to the Admin CP by:
    Renaming the folder and changing the new name in the initdata.php file i.e

    define( 'CP_DIRECTORY', 'XP3D4C1b' );
    CHMODing the directory to 501 as suggested:

    Restricting access by requesting a password using .htpasswd and .htaccessRestricting access to it by entering static IP addresses of those admins who have permission to it.

    What do you think of these ideas? Please give your feedback as I am sure it will benefit many IPB owners and administrators :D

    You should go ahead and get a license now, that way you can help beta test it and help it fix that much sooner.

    I'm curious to understand how UTF-8 could resolve all issues like this ? :o

    BTW, Brandon, Vince , I've already done the "Help files" modifications: :whistle: :P
    - It integrates smartly in ACP,
    - it supports up to 255 languages (or more if you want)
    - it require only 3 files modifications, and one SQL update to add a lang column to the FAQ table

    Are you interested to review or integrate this patch?
    If yes where should I send it ?

    This is not the correct answer.

    This is the correct answer.

    A couple of years ago, there was an entire series of IPB where the IPS link was removed, and there was only a link to the Invision Board site. This theoretically could have worked out for hosting companies, etc, but then IPS put back the IPS link and that was the end of that.
