    The /terms and /privacy pages also fail to use the ipsBox class so the text cannot be read if a background image is used. To the IPS staff: Is it possible to get an ETA of when these fixes might be applied? Customers continually report these problems to me to me but it's technically not an issue with my code
  4. Wireless: A gaming theme

    Version 1.0.0

    1 download

    Wireless: A gaming theme for IPS // ipsfocus Wireless is a gaming theme, perfect for clan communities or game related sites. It features a rotating header when the page is scrolled, which is customizable using the background picker. The green colour scheme can be modified easily within the theme settings. Theme Features Theme Settings Easily enable, disable or modify theme features such as background images, logos, social media links, guest messages and colors. This makes modifications and upgrades very simple since little code changes are required. Rotating header The header rotates once the page is scrolled - compatible in most modern browsers. This feature can easily be disabled within the theme settings if necessary. Change color scheme The green color is controlled via the theme settings. Changing the color scheme only takes a few clicks! Background picker If enabled, your members can choose their own background image or color from a predefined selection. Their choice is saved via cookies and automatically load each page visit. Guest message A customizable message can be shown to guests, prompting them to either register or login to your forum. Two designs, "billboard" and "alert" (shown) are available. Global message Display a message across the top of your site with important announcements. Once your members have seen the message, they can press the Dismiss button to remove it (until you configure a new one). Social links Social links can be enabled/disabled and customized to your own URL, allowing you to easily link to your social network pages (facebook, twitter, etc) HTML logo with slogan Easily add/edit your text logo and slogan from within the theme settings. If required, the text can be replaced by an image instead. Mega Footer A mega footer with configurable column numbers and content can be enabled and customized all within the theme settings. Optional fixed header If enabled via theme settings, your header will stick to the top of the page, allowing for easy access to your navigation. For a full feature list including a live demo, take a look at Wireless on ipsfocus!

  5. Inconsistent theme HTML

    The issue existed in 4.1 and likely 4.0 too, it's not unique to 4.2. The guide which you linked to isn't related to the issue's we've mentioned, so adding a background colour to the entire site wrapper isn't the solution we're after unfortunately. We don't need the entire #ipsLayout_contentWrapper area styled, we need the individual content areas correctly wrapped with ipsBox. The HTML structure is correct on most pages, but other pages are broken (shown in all of the screenshots above) since they lack any form of structure. If you need to reproduce this on your own site, simply change the Page Background theme setting to a dark colour such as #3c3c3c and visit any of the affected pages. It'll become quite obvious Additionally, the headers which are deliberately outside of the ipsBox elements should at least have a class wrapped around them which can give themers the opportunity to easily style them.

      4.2 themes must be installed as fresh themes, I'd avoid using the "Upload new version" feature since many customers seem to have issues with it :)

  7. Inconsistent theme HTML

    All edit forms are affected, except for the 'edit post' form. I mentioned that in an earlier post

    This issue was fixed a few versions ago in my themes. Steve was just using an outdated version

    Thanks Mark - I'm sure a tonne of my customers will appreciate that. Pretty much every edit form needs styling. The below screenshot is from the Blogs, but the same happens with the Gallery and Download addons. There are numerous areas that contain page titles or descriptions. This example is from the Store (when viewing a category of products). The ipsType_medium class is also used in the section title for some reason, which makes the text excessively small. The album description when viewing albums (below the Rules box if it's not clear in the screenshot): If the rules are displayed on the page (instead of a popup box or link): The ModCP: There are numerous pages where the large page title sits outside the content: The inbox, when no message is selected. I think customers have also reported issues with the Terms and Conditions and privacy - although I could be wrong. I'm sure there are many more areas, but those were found after a quick sweep through my forum. An easy way to find these issues is to simply change the page background colour to a dark colour and you'll notice how easily these areas stick out. If the "text on transparent background" effect is intended, then please just add a new class to the parent of those elements (such as .ipsContent_transparent or something) which will allow developers to add backgrounds to those areas if necessary.
  12. A css solution is always easier to maintain, and is upgrade-friendly /* Show signatures on all devices */ .ipsApp div[data-role="memberSignature"]{ display: block !important; }
  13. When upgrading my themes to 4.2, I have been intentionally trying to avoid HTML modifications in an attempt to make my themes "upgrade friendly". In some cases, template modifications are necessary - however based on my own experience and customer bug reports, it has become increasingly apparent that there are design issues with the Default IPS theme. Many pages lack the .ipsBox class which should be used to wrap content. Failure to use this class means text is displayed on the body background which is rarely intended. Every theme which uses an image for the background (or even a dark hex colour) will suffer from this. A screenshot of the Rules confirmation screen from a customers website is shown below. This is easily fixed by wrapping the area with: <div class='ipsBox ipsPad'> however I don't feel as though this is something I should be doing myself - firstly because it means my templates will be modified and secondly because all theme designers can benefit from this. If there could be a conscious effort to go through the suite and apply these classes to the appropriate areas, that would be perfect.
  14. I understand the annoyance, however you'll find that you get what you pay for. Most commercial theme designers such as myself spend a lot of time creating and supporting themes that have lasted years. You'll find that themes aren't abandoned or left outdated since the commercial designers have an obligation to support their products - and frequent theme updates are usually offered too with bug fixes or general improvements. Roughly $30 to redesign your entire site is a great investment and certainly not exorbitant, especially if it can grab the attention of your visitors and turn them into members
