  1. That's okay. I'm waiting until IPB 3 final is released before I renew my license.
  2. I realize I've been able to do this before but does anyone know how to change the number of Emoticons per line, through the ACP? This is in regards to IPB 2.3.6. I've searched throughout the entire ACP and I can't seem to find the setting. This is where when you post a message, the emoticon screen opens up. I want to change the number of emoticons per line in the emoticon posting screen sidepanel.
  3. The whole point in paying the renewal for the license is that free upgrades are included in that package.
  4. The original topic creator of this discussion doesn't realize something. When you warn someone, the system allows you to also send a message indicating why the person received a warning strike and this is optional. If someone is about to be banned, chances are, they have already been warned they are about to be banned. When someone is banned, or that it comes down with someone being banned, that means that the member being banned has been disruptive to the forums and that they have been given appropriate warnings regarding the fact they they are going to be banned if they continue with their behavior. Most of everyone here probably have their forums set up where banned members cannot access any part of the forums, view images, post messages or send PM's. It is not necessary for a banned member to read the reason for why they have been banned. I don't give anyone a reason, although, a simple 'verbal' warning sent either through a PM or through a posted message in the topic they are participating in. That's enough to get them to back off. But, if the person is being deliberately offensive, they are summarily banned permanently from the forums. I just don't see any reason for a banned member to know why they have been banned.

    Swine flu?

This topic isn't appropriate for discussion about the feedback for IPB. What does the Swine Flu have to do with feedback for IPB 3?
  6. All it means is that they have a working copy of it just for IPS ... it doesn't mean that the actual release date is close ...
  7. All of the links for the news updates should be appearing in your own forums ACP.
  8. Judging by how long Beta 5 was with Beta Testers, and if there are two RC's I doubt IPB 3 would hit the pre-June release. I just think that IPS could stand to provide weekly updates on the status of Beta and RC development. As someone else had said, there is very little communication from IPS on the development of the new version.
  9. SO, we'll get two months of testing for the RC release? I think I'm going to wait until the final is released before I renew my license. I want to be sure that the final will be released before the next license renewal is due.

Will there be support provided for upgrading from 2.3.6 to IPB 3 RC 1?

    IPB3 Beta 4

While I agree that software always has bugs in it, which is why IPB constantly issues new security or bug fix updates x.x.1 and so on. I think the concern is that IPS Clients aren't being given access to test the Fifth Beta. Not only is there a Beta 5 planned but there are also RC's and that someone from IPS Staff said that IPB woould see a release before June. With approximately 7-8 weeks, I'm optimistic that we'll see a final version released before June.

I thought the fifth Beta was supposed to be released.

    IPB3 Beta 4

Well, I've always continued to pay for the renewal just to keep the software version updated. The only time I ask for support is when a new upgrade or update is available so it's never bothered me. I just think that ever since this issue came up that it was important to be accurate about it. And, it's not about license renewal. I renew to keep my forum software updated ... I just think that it's important. I've spent a lot of money keeping my website software updated which is strange because I started off using 1.3. Then upgraded to version 2 but it was unliscensed. This was when I opted to pay for IPB and have been a customer since then. I just consider the $25 every six months part of the cost for my site and I also receive donations from my members for it as well.

    IPB3 Beta 4

When you pay the $25 bi-annual fee is just to keep the license active. As I said, I think that IPS hasn't really clarified what the license really is. If they said that it's for support, then the download for the full version of IPS would be free. By setting it up so that you have to pay before you download means that you're not actually paying for the support. The support for IPS services is part of the overall license fee. I'm not attacking you, Lee. The other might be, but, I'm just trying to clarify that if any fees associated with IPB software isn't for support, mainly. I think that's how everyone sees it and how it was explained by IPS Staff. I think the best way to describe it is that the fees customer pays IPS are for 1) software downloads and updates and 2) customer support. I think to say that it's just for customer support in an incorrect statement.

    IPB3 Beta 4

I have to disagree with Lee Craven on what IPS clients are paying for. If clients or customers weren't paying for the IPB software with their payment or their renewal fee of $25 every six months then the full version of IPB would be free for everyone, customers and non-customers alike. So, your statement that the fees that we pay to IPS are for support is incorrect. If that were true, then a lot of customers wouldn't be paying to renew their license. They could simply download the full version. The point is that the license fee is for the software. Customer Support comes along with that license fee, not the other way around, despite what everyone may say.

    IPB3 Beta 4

As has been discussed before: "There will be no new features added to IPB 3." This has been announced since Beta 1 and 2 was released.

    IPB3 Beta 4

Oh, I realize that, Brandon. Personally, I've never really had a problem that. While it would have been nice to see it released last summer, it doesn't bother me that much. I was trying to explain it a little better as someone else had posted an inquiry about it.

    IPB3 Beta 4

aurora, look past the lines. That's not what I'm saying. I'm simply saying that there are probably a lot of client of IPS that are upset over the fact that all of the renewals have been paid without a software update to the next version. Brandon, what I've been trying to clarify is that every summer, we would see a release 2.1 (2005), 2.2 (2006), 2.3 (2007) and so on. What I'm trying to explain is that some are wondering why it took two years for the new version. A new version of the software wasn't announced until sometime this past summer ... I think some are just concerned why it took so long to get the new version out.

    IPB3 Beta 4

I think what the whole problem is that while many of us have come to expect an annual summer release for new versions, that a lot of us have paid for license renewals despite not receiving a new sizable upgrade since 2.3 was released. The release between 2.3 and 3.0 will have been two years and may just seem unfair to some clients who continue to pay for the renewals with no upgrades. Brandon, I'm wondering if the development betwen future releases will be 12-18 months from the date of the previous version.

    IPB3 Beta 4

iBot, I'm not trying to be negative. I'm just stating that giving the current status of the Beta testing, that it's probably doubtful that we would see a final release of IPB3 before an RC release has went through the motions. As long as there are substantial buga being reported, I doubt that IPS would release a final version with significant bug reports.

    IPB3 Beta 4

Good luck on the RC release. Ain't gonna happen anytime soon. There's already a Beta 5 scheduled and I doubt we'll see a release for IPB 3 Final before June or July. The testing for IPB Beta's have been going on for about a month each. Since there are bugs being reported with each Beta, I suspect that we'll see a Beta 6 and 7 before it moves to RC mode.
