  1. @Joel R @AndyF I found that old plugin, that was created a while back by @Adriano Faria, it was "Posts Required to Send PM" but I doubt he has plans on updating it for IPS 4.4.x. But, I'm familiar with creating other usergroups to do what you suggest but I'd rather not have to create a anew usergroup just to use as a workaround for that. Faria's plugin would limit a user's ability to send PMs to anyone until that member reached the appropriate number of posts required to send the PM. For instance, if you set the "Members" usergroup to where they needed to have a 100  post count before they could access the PM system.

I just prefer not to create long run-arounds like that for a usergroup that would serve no purpose.

  2. Well, I use Firefox and I upgraded from 4.2.3 to 4..4.1. But the only complaint I've heard so far is the issue relating to Firefox. But, considering how Firefox and Chrome are practically similar is most ways, it just feels like users would be experiencing the same problems with both browsers.s For me, and I've tried both, they just seem to be like the same web browser, with the exception of a name change.

The issue is the issue exists within "Support" in my Admin CP, so I opened a support ticket in the client area about 2-3 hours ago, since I can post there. 4.4.0 did not have these issues; the main issue with that update was that the layouts broke a bit, and default avatars (like I have here) don't work, but with 4.4.1 is just rendered the board vacant. I'm hoping to get it fixed, asap, as I'm off for the next 9.5 days and would like to do a lot of posting on my board, and get it as active as possible! Lots to catch up on, and not being able to post is keeping me a bit behind!

Like, this is all we see when we post a new topic:

When I've problems like that, I run into ACP and recache or run any tool available (Support tool) in the ACP. If the problem still persists, then I log into cPanel on my site and then run a repair on the database that runs my forums. Trust me, I've run into a problem or two in the past and doing that saved me from a world of headaches. cPanel allows me repair my database if something is wrong and it has served me well in the past.

I found it! Thank you! Hoping I can get this issue resolved, because, you know, we gotta be able to post!

You're welcome. When I use support, it depends on how serious the issue is that determines if I post for help here on the forums first or just bypass and go straight to support if the issue is serious. The problems related to the forum software usually only come up during an upgrade or up to a few days after the upgrade has been completed. But, these things are expected. This time around, the issues I had started when the auto upgrade tool failed. Oh, it downloaded the upgrade, extracted it, and then ran into a critical error when it tried to upgrade, forcing me to manually upgrade and then asking for support over for two days afterwards to resolve the smaller issues that cropped up.

Do I do that in the "Client Area" on here, or through my Admin CP?

Click on the "Client Area" link at the top of any page here on the IPS site (like this link: https://www.invisioncommunity.com/clientarea/), then click on the Support tab and open a new support ticket (New Request). The "Client Area" link can be found at the top of any page on the IPS site, even on the forums and in the marketplace. 😄

  6. There used to be a third party addon for this feature I'm about to ask for but I think that IPS should add the option for administrators to restrict PM messages for usergroups until they reach a certain number of posted messages or responses on the forums. Sometimes you run into the problem where someone new to your community will register for an account and instead of posting on the forums, they send a barrage of personal messages to forum staff or the general members in some weird advertising campaign. I actually had this happen before where someone signed up for an account and sent unsolicited PMs to members on my site without posting a single message.

It's a problem that I think I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

  7. Personally, I like the idea of a "dark mode" and it's something that IPS should consider. Why? Because, like a lot of people out there, I suffer from eye strain. My eyes are sensitive to bright light so having a dark mode is much easier and more relaxing on my eyes. Many people suffer from this. But, I also think that this is something that should be offered on the front end where the end user can select the option through their user account.

Keep in mind that I don't think it should be added just because "everyone else is using it". But, only from the perspective that it would make for a more comfortable experience for the end users. Eye strain is a major problem in just about every country out there whose people surf the internet these days. I look at it more as an "accessibility" issue rather than "just because everyone else doing it".

  8. I tried installing it and everything worked fine until I tried to test it out. The geo-location wouldn't work to pin a user on the map so I ended up removing the Member Map from my site. It used to work a lot better when it used Google Maps for its location data.

  9. Pete, I'm noticing some type of weird thing in regards to this plugin. While it works as intended, even though I deleted the old version and reinstalled the updated version on a clean install, the plugin keeps warning that a new version is available. The version I have installed is 1.0.0 and this is the latest version.

  10. @Lindy, I appreciate the offer. I sent you a personal message with the support ticket number. It's just been frustrating on my end because the previous upgrade errors that have seriously impacted my community, and there have been two of them, I've had to go through multiple support tickets on each problem before anyone would actually investigate the problem. It was only after a second IPS Support staffer looked at these problems that they discovered that there were actually errors with the upgrade. I let my frustration get the better of me but that we shouldn't have to submit multiple tickets before someone actually looks at the problem. However, logging in, repeating the same actions I took to reproduce the errors is not looking into the problem because it doesn't solve the problem.

I went through the support tool, updated to 4.1.6.1 and even restored the default forum template but that the error persisted. I know that the error is not with forum template because if the error was with the forum template, then the error would be reproducing itself when creating a customized activity stream through the front end user account. Like I said, the error only appears when a customized link is created through the ACP. I just found it odd that the error only appears if the customized link is created through the admin control panel.

  11. @Adriano Faria, I tried your suggestion but I got the typical response from IPS Support. I just no longer have the patience to submit multiple support tickets to have someone look into this problem. My apologies but the previous glitches that have affected my upgrade to IPS4 have resulted in having to file multiple support topics before someone will look deeper into the problem. It was only after submitting the same support ticket on the third time that someone in support looked deeper into the problems before someone found that there is a problem with the upgrade.

His solution was that he looked into my account, did the same thing I did, and saw the same error I did, and just swept the problem under the rug with no solution as to how to fix it other than "download the client files and re-upload". That's not a solution if the error will keep popping up.

  12. I have to say that my community doesn't like it either. I would purchase a plugin that restored the old functionality of the "View New Content" feature of IPS3. I think that Activity Streams is just too much of a radical change. Personally, it feels too much like RSS Feeds. One would think that with so many licensed users if IPS complaining about the same thing, that maybe enabling the previous feature, alongside with Activity Streams, that it would be a sort of compromise until communities can get used to the feature. I'm also bothered by the fact that IPS seems to be relying too much on AJAX and that just because a few communities like the feature doesn't mean that the IPS family at large enjoys.

I don't agree that it should be removed but I think that a compromise should be considered, adding VNC back into the software. Even creating such a VNC link doesn't do the same as the original VNC feature.

  13. I'm wondering if Member Map is going to have that previous feature addeed back itno it? Such as the number of 'member pins' that have been added to the Member Map, like it was with Google Maps?

  14. Could you perhaps post a screenshot that is larger than a thumbnail? Even with my great eyesight, it's impossible to see those images unless yoou have the world's largest magnifier.

I'd like to see a larger screenshot before I download this one ... I found this pack while browsing through the download folder on Resources.

Other than that, thanks for posting. :D

  15. Possible, and I agree with you, Mark. However, most of us run medium sized boards that aren't dependent on a business structure, or rather a good number of IPB run sites are. I just think that the feature should be something that can be turned on or off, depending on the preferences of the Admin. I would like to see a feature in the next version that allows the Root Admin to toggle that feature on or off, according to usegroup.

Mark, do you think this would be something that could be added?

  16. This has got to be my biggest complaint about IPB3.

With IPB 3, Administrators are protected from receiving warning strikes, from being banned and basically from receiving any kind of punishments. They are protected from such restrictions. However, there's one problem. Administrators can still see their posted messages and topics subjected to being "Reported." Shouldn't the Admin usergroup be protected from having their posts "reported" on by other members? I think that if this is set by default that there should be some way to disable it for certain groups.
