My community is begging for an app, and I already lost ~60% of member traffic to Facebook and WhatsApp. Why? Not because my content isn't good enough anymore, but my members use my contents, and afterwards, go on with live messaging/meetings (which is an elemental part in my industry) via Facebook and WhatsApp and I lose control. I can do nothing against it. My competitors don't have contents, but they have active Facebook and WhatsApp groups. The FB/WA messaging functions are way better, and my users require an app icon to remember my site as well as push notifications to their mobiles. Not having an app is blocking my success factors extremely. I'm already considering buying an app development for my WordPress pages (which seems to be cheaper as many developers already did it for the WP platform...), but that would be the point to lose the power an IPS app would have. I'd prefer an IPS app, but I don't have ages to wait for one. We need to speed up any arrangement.

You could use an app template like https://www.webviewgold.com to create an app for iOS and Android. I don't know how well it works, but I think their app template supports push notifications and other native app features.

But those that wanted to, would. All it needs is an easy 'download our app' in the footer and the option is then available to everyone. I can only see activity decreasing over coming years unless forums get on board with it, every app you download has notifications these days

+1000.  I have a community for enthusiasts of a specific sport.  My community competes for participation and attention against a Facebook group for the same sport.  The Facebook group is crushing my community for daily interactions and up-to-the-minute breaking news type posts.  I think this is due to 2 big things, among others: 1, people are on FB all the time anyway, 2, PUSH NOTIFICATIONS.  Just to level-set, a push notification is one that shows up on your phone or desktop if you allow it, regardless of whether you're currently using that app.  Existing IPS notifications are great, but the user only sees them once they browse to the site.  Email notifications are not a solution and should be minimized for obvious reasons.
Tapatalk is one solution, but IMO it is a non-starter because the look and feel is nowhere as good as the mobile version of IPS, and to get your own branding and ads on Tapatalk you have to pay.  I already pay $70/mo for IPS, that's enough.  Tapatalk is its own ecosystem and they are very much in control of the user experience.
The only things saving my community from being obsoleted by the Facebook group is the sheer fact that a forum is a much better archive of information, and is a more dedicated environment.  The searching and organization cannot be matched by Facebook.  A FB group flows by like a river, and topics are gone and forgotten within a day or so.  There is also no way to monetize a FB group.  My community sells subscriptions which pays for the hosting and the rest we donate to charitable organizations in our sport.  A huge reason FB wins is that dopamine rush from receiving push notifications.
If IPS would provide a push notifications solution, there would be no need for a half-baked 3rd party solution, and it would dramatically improve our forums' ability to compete with Facebook.

If you decided to use them again, I'm up for looking into that. Image section uses more than one primary CSS classes, because it's like 40 templates. based on the template grid size (2/3/4 ... in one row) most of them normally works as display as cover, which is instantly can be modified (like full image in wider templates) based on individual needs. it's mainly designed for IPS default theme but I have experience with reported problems with 3rd party custom themes. even in these cases, I helped to fix their templates based on those custom themes. this is what supporting means anyway. I could do the same here or create entirely new templates based on your need. but it seems, you doesn't up to this and I'm respect that. 🙂

Quick update: I have just updated the theme to work with all IPS apps 🙂 

As promised, the Dark Theme I created for my site has now landed in the Marketplace, even got myself a fancy new Contributers badge thing.
The theme has no template changes, only CSS, if you notice any bits I've missed let me know as and I will get them fixed up straight away. 
Please remember this theme has only been tested on the Forums, Calendar and Gallery app as I do not own Blog or Commerce. 

A new version has been uploaded to the Marketplace. Changes include:

I don't think anyone is logging out from such community to log back next day. It' not a banking system.
Can you change the behavior please as its very non-user-friendly to ask them to log out and log in each day that will deter the participation? You know users are too lazy and one more step is enough to make them lose the interest.
We would be more interested in last visit option than last activity so that they can earn points for just logging back to the system (as it says in your app) - without logging out/in.
Maybe you can tie this based on the calendar instead of session instances, just a thought.

Ok, I have received a couple of messages regarding my night theme, asking if it was available for purchase at all. I'm not a theme developer, it's was never intended to enter the marketplace so the custom.css is not the most professional or tidy one you will ever come across, but I am happy to share it for free and unsupported in this topic. 
Couple of things, my site runs on a few template modifications, I have reverted all template files for the theme download so it's running all stock 4.4.2 templates.
I have also removed CSS which is unique to my site such as the fixed width and icon replacements which you will see in the screenshot below.
If you want fixed with, just add this to the top of the custom.css file and edit the value for what suits your site.
.ipsLayout_container {max-width: 1100px;} I have also included the editor skin, simply unzip, upload to /applications/core/interface/ckeditor/ckeditor/skins and then select Night Mode under the Editor tab in your theme options.
If anyone would like to tidy this up and package it for the marketplace feel free, although it would be nice if it was kept free. 
Hopefully IPS realise that Dark Themes for mobile users are becoming more popular and include one out the box in future, come on IPS, sort it out!

Do you want to stay with a world-class job? grab your ass and request custom theme with option "button" to switch between dark and light mode.

That looks good and work much better on mobile, particularly at night.
Hopefully IPS picks up on this and is willing to support a dark theme in their next release...

if not can you think of implementing it in future
we use Classifieds and subscriptions and not full commerce app

I think it would be interesting to resemble social networking, it gives a period of days maybe the person gives up. In case there is an account hack, and even an email notification of delete request.

At the end of a creation of an advert you have Contact Details.
Is it possible to just use "Private Message" and hide the Email & Other field ?

Agreed.  It would be really nice to be able to specify a list of pages (or apps) exempt from advertisements.  For example, if I wanted ads in forums and blogs views but not in galleries, or if I wanted website.com/VIP/home ad-free as opposed to Member homepages, etc.
It also seems as if there can be only one ad in a given location.  It would be nice, for example, to be able to put two ads in the sidebar and determine their order without having to mess about with custom locations in templates.

Is it just me ... or do I remember being promised more control over where my ads are placed?
I specifically want to have certain clubs have zero ads and also no ads on the registration page etc....
I cannot find the references to this promise anywhere?
Or is it just me?

I'd be interested to see if IPB developers could integrate with a push notification service.  There's no real sense in building it internally if there are services that can do it for you.  For instance, https://www.izooto.com/ seems like one that would work great.  At this point, the challenge will be to convince IPB to do it, iZooto to build an app, or pay someone to build it.

Edit: AND imagine how powerful this would be with social media promotion. Automatically (or automatically queue for admin approval) post to Twitter any post that gets X likes. The site would run itself!
