I really doubt European experts said something like that. It’s just clearly wrong over here. Ownership of intellection property cannot be transferred in Europe. Either community content isn’t intellectual property at all, e.g. a short comment. Then no one really owns it. Or it is intellectual property, e.g. a gallery picture the user has taken himself or an article or article-like forum post. In this case the intellectual property is owned by the creator for life (and his family for a certain time after his death). So the web provider will never “own the content”. Never! It’s legally impossible. The European creator can’t even give it up if he wanted to. What he can do is issue usage rights. And that is something that needs to be clarified in the terms—upfront.
Wether this type of “data” needs to be seen as part of the upcoming GDRP rules, well, that’s open for debate at this point it seems.

We have been doing this for over 16 years and I don't think anyone has ever asked me that ?  ... of course our staff never download your data while we are helping you with a support request. That's not a GDPR thing at all that's a case of simple ownership: it's not our data why would we download it?

Yes, in general you may have valid reasons to retain data.
For example, when you retain IP addresses, or even emails, of banned users and spammers, I see a reasonable reason to retain that data: prevent future abuses, from users that already have a historic of abuses (although I have some doubts about the real usefulness of this data...).
But I'm talking about a specific case.  In particular, my problem is with the indefinite storage of IP addresses as result of the "normal" use of IPS software.  I have used the IP data to detect abuses, but I never needed data from more than a few weeks ago.  So, even if the user does not want to be forgotten, I believe retaining this data indefinitely does not comply with the balance requirements of legitimate interest.
(This opinion is mainly based on my experience.  Others may have legitimate use cases to justify keeping such data, and if that's the case, I'm curious to know more about concrete examples.)
IP address are considered PII even when they are not directly connected with a user account.  If you cannot associate the IP address with an account, you can still "track" the user.  In this case, the IP addresses are similar to many other online identifiers such as tracking cookies, which are considered PII even if not associated with user accounts.
Thanks.  That may be enough for me.

    Two points:
I would say that storing the IP address from which a post was made 5 years ago is storing more information than is needed. I just checked some private messages exchanged with a member that was deleted, and its IP address is still there (I did not check if posts also preserve this info), so it seems the possibility to delete a member is not enough to delete its personal data.

I prefer communities without (external) advertisement.
The only real interesting part for me are the IPS subscription services which are highly customizable.
    My monetization strategy is
virtual currencies / points systems that integrate perfectly into commerce/downloads. It's a natural incident, that most customers never use/spend all their deposited credits, so the community wins all forgotten or expired credits.  better handling for transactions for digital products for european union customers/members, so we won't get in conflict with laws and tax regulation. Please help us expand in the EU and reach out for more paying customers. something like an IPS native "automation rules" / trigger systems, if event x happens then do y (f.e. send pms, emails, react, superlike...) the more you can target and engage your members (and add your own ads in there) the more will be sold. With such a trigger system, make it happen to generate personal vouchers and limited time offers enhance email marketing campaigns, introduce options for bulk email subscribers filtering, so we can entice more members to subscribe into bulk emails, award subscribers (with community benefits), disclose the opt-outs. As soon as you have a bunch of willing subscribers and good, valid emails, you have a very high chance to power up your conversion value. If you don't like (external) advertisements in your own community, but you already are a commercial actor, then monetization requires a different strategy.

I would like to have a ref list implented in your software instead of using viglink.
So, if someone puts a link into a post eg. amazon or another shop ... your ref id should be added automaticly to the url.

It is a clean design no doubt, but somehow it looks dated, needs refinement. In-house themes is what it needs. Do check what a difference a theme makes in www.shopify.com The third party themes dont impress me at all. Not much done with the layout

After all the great improvement done during 4.2 and 4.3 I think the "mobile front" is the main weakness of this software today

I don't like current behaviour of highlighting because it works for every posts, does not matter if this post important or not (i.e. "official staff answer" or "staff member's comment on kittens photo"). I'd prefer to have an option below editor. Posted this also as suggestion in feedback and ideas section. Please support(reaction/comment - any activity) this topic if you need it too.

The report centre is, unfortunately, hamstrung by the lack of notifications - you get alerted to a new report, but not to a moderator commenting "not sure what to do with this, any ideas?"

Yes - 3.4.9 has this setting too in Nexus, but it doesn't seem to have the desired effect - users can sign up, they are put in the Validating group, and for all intents and purposes are signed up, but cannot do anything based on my restrictions on that group.
My point here is I would want them to have a confirmed purchase before they are able to access the site and be assigned to a group, and force them to purchase a package. I think this new feature will help in the fact there is a reminder to "complete your profile", so if it is not possible the way I describe, this will hopefully mitigate the unfulfilled user issue I have now.

    1. When dismissed, what's the timeframe for the block to reappear?
    2. Is that a block that can be placed into any hot zone / sidebar / removed?
    3. If profile is complete, is there a recognition of some sort? For example: green check mark, notification, Linvision bucks, or the new Starbucks unicorn frappucino? Kidding about the last two.
    4. Integrated into Activity Stream, profile activity, membergroup promotion, ACP commerce account activity?
    - "Joel updated his profile to 50% completion"
    - "Joel completed his profile"
    5. Profile completion % is based off number of steps, and not number of actual fields to fill out?
    6. Has IPS been able to test on live communities to measure whether it's actually improved new member registration or profile completion?

Will we be able to customize the reactions per forums ?
I say this because it's nice to have all those reactions in specific sections, but if we have a forum for the community guidelines and someone clicks on "thumbs down" it's irritating. it's easy to troll the system.
We should be able to exclude reaction per forums and also decide which reactions are available and which reactions are not available for specific sections.
