This is just a UX thing. If you're prompted to or you install the app it should automatically add the community that you're adding it from. This could be just because I've installed it from the ACP but that shouldn't change the design here. Having to search for the community after the fact is just a step people won't enjoy taking.

Morrigan reacted to ahc in Registration verifcation by Mobile Number
I'd like the option for signing up via a phone number for my members, but preventing email registration based spam isn't the reason why, it's more for the convenience since a good majority of the population that actively uses the internet own some sort of smart phone.
I've seen the documentaries that show warehouses full of workers that have about 100+ smart phones for each person with different phone numbers.  They are paid to automatically sign up for websites to spam and/or boost engagement, depending on what you paid for.  There are a lot of prepaid plans you can get for a little bit of nothing these days, too.  Even if we pretend that they wouldn't shell out money on phone plans, there are SEVERAL accessible free apps, including Google, that will give you a phone number for free (and allow you to change or sign up for new numbers for free with other emails) that can be used via Wifi, something you can get for free or pay for and share with several other people.  I don't have high hopes for anything argued for preventing spam's sake.
Interesting.  I've never signed up for a website that required my phone number, not even Facebook.  🤔  The only app that has my phone number is DoorDash, but that's because I'm a lazy millennial and don't cook my own food.  😂

That's been a known fact about IPSs terms for approving communities into the app since they originally introduced it. This is a rule of iOS which is why its a rule there. Its either that or NO app.

Well to be clear it IS intended behavior @AtariAge To display that there is an upgrade available. However the Beta upgrades are completely optional as described.

Morrigan got a reaction from sobrenome in Tasks.php bogging down the server?
So I have a dedicated server, sure there are other people that I host but I've been trying to figure out why my server always feels so bogged down and it felt like it was slowly getting worse. Well I sat on my server's processes page to find out that tasks.php was taking up significant amounts of my ram and processor. And not bad right? But it wasn't just 1 tasks.php that was running for my forum. Since it runs every minute I have about 20 of these processes running for my site alone taking up 70+% processing time.
What I did to see if this was a problem is I terminated all processes started by my sites account. Low and behold my site went from loading forever to a more snappy and immediate download.
Currently I've deleted the cron tasks and went back to the default method of running it with my traffic (I have enough traffic it SHOULD be fine).
What I'm looking to find out if anyone else has this issue and how they resolve it. The only thing I could think of was to maybe change the cron from running every minute to running every 10-15 minutes.
Note, that I run multiple IPS instances off of this server and none of my smaller/low traffic sites have this problem.
    Any insight? Advice?

No. @bfarber this slowness has existed since 4.4 but it got worse in 4.5. You’ve been in my ACP but I didn’t have any background tasks running. They are regularly cleared out. But even then having tasks.php fire and not complete is detrimental to fire it again. Now you have 2 processes doing the same thing. It just quickly gets exponentially worse.
I don’t even have a super massive community. I’d say 100 average online users (guests and members) on average.
To be clear. Turning it off made my site load in seconds instead of 30+ visible seconds.

Morrigan got a reaction from OptimusBain in created better error messages using context
So I understand your plight but one thing to consider is how do you provide that information when the groups can be modular. Obviously your custom category won't just be available to this specific group, it has to be available to the staff team too and how does IPS determine which is more important in this case? Its not easily defined?
What if you have a subscription that includes one set of classes but another that includes that class and a few others (on a deal)?
    Beta testers?
    Teachers?
They would also possibly have permissions to this category.
I will agree that some errors do need a little more information as they are confusing for the end user however, personally, I know that you can do some of this at the Pages database level "You must subscribe to gain access to this class... click here to view our subscription options". You can alternatively edit the verbiage of ANY error message in the ACP using Languages.

Remove their access to the store (through permissions) but still give them access to billing and purchases. This should remove their access to purchase (they won't be able to see products) but they should still be able to access their previous purchases.
    @Rhett sound accurate?

Morrigan got a reaction from ahc in How about a built-in duplicate user detector?
Then you have people that live in the same house, you have people that do share devices because they can't have a computer per person in their house or utilize public locations (like libraries) to register/view a site.
No other service gives a flying pig's butt about it, why should you? If the new account isn't causing issues, why does it matter that they have re-registered?

I guess that's more in how you handle your moderating business. Once something is reported on any community I've ever ran or been a part of, its out of the users hands. The actions taken to fix/rectify/and or punish the user is on the staff.
I feel like you take privacy out of banned users hands when you tell your users ANYTHING about something reported. This sort of behavior leads to really toxic and generally mean and vindictive communities that I've seen.
I think of banning someone sort of like getting divorced. People may know that the papers have been served but no one needs to know if the papers have been signed, but if they figure it out or find out, great! But they still don't need to know what happened in the courtroom or what the judge deemed to be the results of the divorce.
I respect that you run your communities differently and you provide that dirty information to your members but it may be something that just requires a thought and retraining your members/staff by changing how your staff and moderators deal with reports in general. Unless there is something that is required from the original reporter (IE a harassment claim) there should never be more contact with them then their original report. Its on you to read, understand and determine if action needs to be taken (sometimes there doesn't need to be any action taken).
Everyone comments on how we need to be more like social media outlets and how people are more familiar with that mode of operation. I don't know of a social media outlet that reports back on a report of misconduct and normally the only way you know someone is banned is by logging out. Because a lot of them still let you post but hide or remove all of your content instead of dealing with the backlash of someone knowing that they are banned.
The above is why I believe that this doesn't need to be core.

I prefer the shadow ban status. My members don't need to know if I've banned someone. Its none of their business. I don't need them nosing in on someone elses' business either.

I disagree. If you need it to be more noticeable then take the extra steps to move banned members into a banned group, make their restrictions heavy or remove all access to everything. That shouldn't be on IPS on how heavy handed or flashy you want to be to your banned users. They provide the means to remove the banned users access to your community. How you display that should be on you.
