  1. Im going to wait for this app and possibly 4.1.2 for IPS before i look at moving my site from 4.x.x for this simple reason that most plugins seem to be causing errors with the new version.

  2. Your capitalistic prerogative, but ...

You are going to lose at least one customer with unreasonable pricing like this ... and subscription-based to boot ... and I cannot even try before I buy ... and it 'feels' to me like you are counting on current-user dependency on your plugin to get them past the inner conflict of justifying the subscription-based pricing. This is price gouging in my book.

You really think that this software is as essential as antivirus protection? You are pricing it like that. This extension is a nice-to-have, not a need-to-have (unless you are counting on existing customers not being able to live without it). It's a plugin. A good one, but still ...

I use your extension in v3, and it works quite well (with some minor issues/limitations). When I move to IPB v4, I will happily return as a paying customer if you ever decide to price your extension more reasonably. You want 42 bucks? Fine. It hurts, but fine. You want $14/year? No way! I will learn to live without this one under the current conditions.

    :/

PS: Price increase increases likelihood of piracy, especially when people think the price is unreasonable. IMO, you are effectively making it more of a target for piracy with subscription-based pricing.

I agree i had this plugin for 3.4.x and i think its wrong that the full asking price is being asked of old customers. I won't be re-purchasing again.

Also whats the point of a yearly subscription if you are just going to charge people the full application price when IPS gets around to 5.0 etc

  3. Yes and unlike vb they dont tell you to switch everything off and then tell you what you need to do instead of fixing it for you. Thats my personal experience of the differences with ips and vb support.

  4. I know, I was told the same thing. But as I [url="

in my topic not everyone who uses invisible topics has such a forum to post first and the abilities to move the topic when it's created (read: not everyone is a moderator who belongs to the rest of the crew). So I think such an option is easier than post it elsewhere, make it invisible, move it to the destination forum: why not a simple option in the dropdown menu?

I agree - some rep for you. :)

  5. As I [url="

suggested: an option to set the topic immediately invisible when starting it.

I would also like to see an option to show the moderators on the board index, like in IPB 2.3 (and earlier). Just a yes/no option so you can choose if a moderator will be showed or not on the board index. I don't like it to see it only at the bottom of the forum index (although I probably can show it elsewhere if I edit the skin). The way it was showed in IPB 2.3 was more clear to me.

But as always: keep up the good work! :)

Yes ive asked for this option in the past and i was told that i could put it a forum that wasnt accessible to the general forum members however i feel this isnt sufficient - also rather than topic open and closing times how about made visible times - so in theory you could post a thread to go live at a pre-determind time without actually having to be online.

  6. There is no real value in an old style vb licence as too many are selling them.

I have them to sell and they are not worth a lot.

I would rather convert mine to IPB and put all my forums under the one software product.

With such a discount, I could move them over.

At the moment it is $130 to upgrade to the VB suite or $249 to convert to a similar offering here or $299 for the full works (current offer).

Yes and in 18-24 months Vb will be coming for the full price to upgrade to 5.0

Whereas it will only be renewal fees here at IPS :)

  7. Thanks for posting that - very informative. I just need to find two replacement mods and I'm moving over. Sadly, I'm not sure I'm going to find them and I've only just paid out for them as well :(

What mods? Im sure someone here can help :)
  8. I went to

    http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=core&module=usercp&tab=forums&area=topicsubs

and in Manage Watched Topics i changed to immediate email notification

When you just replied i got the email.

Change your email address to something else and see if that fixes it. Any idea what the frozen chimp is using for his email?

    Frozen Chimp

    Just call me Carl ;)
  9. Wow hadnt realised this idea had already been raised - i guess not many people are using the performance mode to have encountered the issues of members complaining etc.

  10. Ideally I think if at all possible the error messages displayed should be changed to reflect the fact that Performance Mode is enabled, not just that the user doesn't have permission.

Agreed - or something to this affect.
  11. Would it be possible when a forum enables the performance mode that it shows something to users to let them know what this entails etc - just i get people mentioning why isnt X/Y/Z working and when the forum is active it gets a tiresome answering things - would be good if it just highlighted the forum is in performance mode which disables some normal features etc.

  12. @ Arctic Monkeys UK.

We got those benefits because we were early adopters. We showed faith in a company that could've disappeared off the market after a couple of months (and when lots of people were refusing to stick with Invision because it had gone paid) - in which case, we'd have paid a very hefty price for the software. This isn't a war between us as customers and I'm sorry that you feel that somehow I'm screwing you over by having a licence where I've already paid for my upgrades. Maybe the flip side is that if we hadn't bought more expensive lifetime and perpetual licences, IPS wouldn't have been able to build its software to the level that it's at now in the time that it's managed to do so. There's also the case that a lot of the lifetime and perpetual licence holders are the ones who modded in the early days, and showed everyone exactly what they could do with forum software, which in turn spurred IPS on to make their product even better. You're reaping the benefit of that in several ways.

    You havent paid more tho?

You arent continuing to pay anything if it wasnt for us maybe IPS might still not be running?

Its all ifs and buts but really i would think if you wanted to support IPS you should be willing to input like we do?(Standard license holders) I mean you dont see us complaining that we have to still pay fees every x amount of time etc! (well till now :P) )

  13. While I can certainly appreciate that (we all want the best deal we can have) - can you not also appreciate our point?

I mean, we stopped offering the perpetual licenses 3 years ago, and the lifetime license a few years before that. If you want to hold on to the security that they provide, then that's all well and good; but do you really think it's reasonable to demand that we make special arrangements to accommodate that, beyond offering you a trade for a current license?

Thats the point ive been trying to make Mark - i mean us standard license holders paid full price for the board and continue our support or lose access to upgrades/support if we dont pay every six months, but you guys are demanding lifetime upgrades plus extras yet cost you no further unless the odd one or two of you is willing to pay - yet we have to pay every 6 months just to keep our software current?
