So I'm currently self hosting a couple of forums
Both are old sites that have been running since around 2004 or so
They're large in size of database but also storage due to uploads over the years of images etc by members

I've tried Invision hosted communities a few times over the years but always had issues with it in terms of speed, downtime or issues but due to price increases by my current hosts I'm tempted to try once more

Could I get some advice as to whether I should trust Invision to host my stuff or not?

If these are just the emails that the software sends, yes. We do have a cloud email delivery system which comes with your package. It is not as customizable as SendGrid or your own SMTP server (e.g. all emails send from an email address on our domain to ease deliverability concerns and use a reply-to with your email address) but it is available. Alternatively, you can continue to use SendGrid or find another SMTP provider.

Thank you - will book a call and see what else I need to check off my list of worries !

The Bulk Mail I meant actually having emails go out (e.g not the feature but the actual email delivery that I currently pay sendgrid an over the top amount of £ for - really not happy with it at £100 per month etc)

If you want to schedule a call, just email sales and we can book a Zoom meeting 🙂

These are more typical of regular hosting, rather than our Cloud which is a Saas (Software as a Service) offering.

FTP access is not provided. For cloud hosting this is not really needed. There is a file uploader in the ACP that can add files. You can also leverage an AWS S3 bucket and upload files to it.

IPS does not provide email hosting services. I personally use Office 365 for email. You could use Google Workspace or any other email hosting service.

In terms of performance, there are a number of performance enhancements that are being rolled out in the next few updates. Charles posted about them here:

In addition, IPS offers hosting out of Europe now. So that should help quite a bit in terms of performance as well!

Yes, you can but I might be biased 😄 .
Any specific questions you have? We have plenty of enormous communities running on our Cloud platform and many large corporations trust us to run their communities. If you haven't tried our platform in the last 4-5 years, it is widely different in a completely cloud based architecture and keeps improving.
We publish our status and uptime here, if you have any concerns: https://status.invisioncommunity.com/

I'm interested in finding out the costs of moving to IPS cloud hosting and the benefits of doing so

I'd also be interested in the speed of the site if I moved onto it, plus the downtime/uptime stats?

Where could I get this info?

Are you using Mandrill as an API or as an SMTP server?
Mandrill via an API has not been supported for quite awhile.  It was removed in 4.1.11 which was released on April 23, 2016.   (Wow... 6 years is quite a bit of time!  How fast it goes!)
So if it was integrated via the API, that would make sense if it's not working.  If it's setup as an SMTP server however...  that's a different issue.

It’s a per group setting. So you need to edit your standard member group.

Sounds like something is not quite right with Javascript or the theme on your community since upgrading. Either there is a theme compatibility issue, cache issue, or a write issue on the server. I would recommend clearing cache by going to ACP -> System -> Support. Then try again.
    If that does not help:
Switch to an unmodified theme and check again. Check to ensure write permissions on your server are correct. If you're on our Cloud, please submit a ticket as we would need to see what else is going on.

Likelihood is that InnoDB strict mode is set to on - ask your host to check, and set it to off if so, then run the operation.

Yeah... i know that feeling, in my case the problem (not database linked but ressource allocation linked) was from the hosting company so I changed and everything is ok now.
Regarding your problem, it means (as for me) you'll ned to find a solution by yourself. I think you'll need to extract your DB and change the format before reload it, it may be tricky but with some assistance it is not so complicated.

    Thank you so much!
I couldn't work out for the life of me how to do it or where to go to do it!
Why on earth can't invision put that renewal thing in the ACP where the app actually is!

This is my biggest bugbear with recent invision releases

There used to be a tick box and a 'select all' option
You could just click 'select all' then 'delete'
It saved hours of admin team time
