Ramsesx reacted to opentype in New year’s resolution: Make the Marketplace great again
I’m not judging in any way, just listing some observations about the developer/Marketplace situation in the recent years.
4.5 tightened the rules drastically. Result: several developers left for good. price increases. Developments needs a self-hosted installation and possibly a demo website. It’s now 850 + 300 annually. Someone starting out as developer really needs some killer products to earn that back and then generate profits. Cloud testing of resources would make it even more expensive (+1,788 annually).  Shift/changes to cloud. The lower tiers don’t have the ability to install third-party products. This decreases the reach and makes running independent third-party shops less useful/profitable.  Signatures turned off. No possibility for passive advertisement through community posts.  Limited compatibility field. Sales can only be created for one version, limiting the income.  I have no magical solutions to offer, but are improvements for this something we could put on the table for 2023?
Currently, I am not very optimistic. We only have a handful of active developers left with continued announcements of departures. If it is still working well for some (?), it’s probably because of a large set of files and existing customers with renewals. But I can’t see how new developers would want to get involved in the current situation, replacing the ones who left or even growing the marketplace.
I understand the costs and downsides for IPS. Paying for code reviews, chargeback fees and of course all the support issues with third-party resources. But then again: Looking at the broader field of online software: all the big players strive with and in part because of a flourishing third-party marketplace. So, improvement could easily be a “win-win-win” situation for IPS, developers and IPS customers.

(I would have some suggestions myself but I don’t want to push the topic in a specific direction, so I am leaving it at the problem statement for now.)

Ramsesx reacted to Richard Arch in Website crippled every once in a while with template errors...not sure why
I would imagine that the files in the datastore are built using data from the database.  That line 804 in Members.php is within a function called get_group() and the line mentions member_group, I would suspect a member having an invalid group.

If you are familiar with running sql on your database you could try this, which will return any members that dont have a valid primary group.  You will need to change xxx to the table prefix you are using or remove xxx_ if you are not using a prefix.
    select * from xxx_core_members where member_group_id not in (SELECT g_id from xxx_core_groups);

Welcome to this week's Invision Insight!
Well doesn't time just fly by?! We are a little over two weeks away from Christmas and well into the holiday season! I hope everyone's got their presents ready or at least has an idea of what to buy for their loved ones. I'm a last-minute man so I have so much time left before joining the crowds... 😅
For those following the World Cup ⚽, despite Australia being knocked out of the tournament by Argentina, my equally supported team from my roots, Portugal, has made it through to the quarterfinals! 🎉
I would love to hear what you are up to and are most excited about this time of year.

We received some feedback from the chat we hosted last week, (shoutout to @jesuralem), so I thought I'd provide a summary of key items discussed to offer everyone an opportunity to catch up on the latest from the team! For those that can, though, give the video a watch to get the full context. I hope you've got your reading glasses on...
    Intro
Improved the software and user experience. Collaboration through our clients, community and the team, we identified needs and delivered additions and improvements. We planned to pivot where it made sense regarding feature requests and suggestions. Industry and client needs have changed, including during and post COVID-19. Goals for this year was content engagement and also on support communities, which have been a big driver of growth. Factor in time to fix bugs, do updates such as PHP 8 and build the tools needed to get people through the transition. Security and performance problems which we have to prepare for. It's a balancing act with new exciting features and necessary things required to ensure the software functions correctly. Refactor language system, which is time intensive, however required for functionality. Delivered

Ramsesx reacted to OptimusBain in menu manager should allow secondary groups
    Hello,
I want to suggest a much-needed feature allowing us to display new main menu entries BASED on secondary groups.
Currently, the software only allows you to display the menu options to the primary groups. However, when the community is used to offering several different products, secondary groups are a MUST. As of now, it's IMPOSSIBLE to choose a custom secondary group; we are forced to select a group from the list (see screenshot) but unable to display the menu entry based on primary/secondary groups.

For this reason, when a new user purchases one of the many products in my community, I CANNOT show a specific menu entry because a new user will always belong to:
Primary group = member Secondary group = ProductX Imagine I want to show a menu option to the user who purchased ProductX? I can't 😞 It's impossible. ACP let us create primary and secondary groups, but we can't display information in the main navigation based on secondary groups.
    Imagine userX buys PRODUCT 1:
UserX added to primary group = member UserX added to secondary group = Product1  An email is sent to him with the purchase and how to access the information, but sometimes the email will land in the spam folder.
I want a primary group = member to SEE the Buy Product1 in the main navigation. Once he purchases the product, his user is added to the secondary group = Product1 However, since he will always belong to the primary group = member, HE WILL ALWAYS SEE the BUY COURSE, but he already purchased the course 😞 This is a big problem. We can create complex menu navigation, but the menu manager will NOT support secondary groups. That forces the users to see information they SHOULD not see.
    For instance:
UserX purchased product1. He should NOT see BUY Product1 in the list of products in the Menu because he already purchased it 😞 How can we tackle this problem? Secondary groups are not supported in many other areas and I was wondering why. If a secondary group is an option (ACP supports it), shouldn't secondary groups BE AVAILABLE as an option EVERYWHERE in ACP?
    Thanks

Welcome to this week's Invision Insight!
We are getting so close to the silly season and whilst things may be slowing down for 2022, we are so excited for what is to come in 2023!
I am really enjoying the engagement from everyone lately and I want to take this opportunity to give you some confidence or relief, whichever is more relevant. Any feature suggestions, bug fixes or reports are all actively read and reviewed, and whilst I cannot promise every single thing will be implemented, it is definitely noticed and appreciated by the team. I thought it a good idea to address this having seen a few comments on Invision Community regarding not getting an answer to your topics. We will always do our best to reply to everyone and everything as they come up.
On other news, how are you all enjoying the FIFA World Cup? ⚽ What team/s are you supporting?
Do you have any travel plans over the Christmas and New Year break?
    New Version
On 29 November, Invision Community released their most recent version of the software, 4.7.5.
As I mentioned last week, this release is the last one for 2022. We thank everyone for your support this year and can't wait to introduce some exciting new features in 2023. It's definitely going to be a very good (and busy) year!
Please ensure your communities are up to date to take full advantage of our product suite.
