It looks like this causes the gradients to disappear... or is it just the video quality?

Can't confirm this for you, but I imagine it's due to usability - this is simple, pick a colour etc. Gradients would take more thought to still be 'easy to use' to the end user.

Nice and easy and overall amazing! :) love it!!Though it would be cool to make a 4th step where user can fill in his custom profile fields is there is any.

As stated, custom profile fields will show up in the same tab as username/password etc. if they are set to show up in the registration screen.

[quote name='Matt' timestamp='1298491135']I think whatever colour we went for we'd still polarize opinion. Color is a personal thing so it's hard to "please" everyone. Obviously all you have is a few screen shots to go on. Trust me, it looks great in the flesh. Striking and bold.

The Admin CP is, and has always been, skinnable.

I'd be happy with that release schedule. Only one thing though - didn't they say Nexus was coming in October? 26th is the last Tuesday in October... Unless it's a Tuesday-Thursday release of Downloads/Nexus - that'd be sweet! :)

October was just a time-frame of when we'd like to get it out, it wasn't anything official. This blog entry is the only official news regarding release dates and schedules.

    Silly questions then ;)

If they are already written and ready to go, why not release them together rather than staggering them?

Releasing them all in one go is harder. We'd have tons of support tickets or upgrade requests for every product we released that day. Staggering them means we can focus more on the application that was released that particular week.

Would this mess up some modifications on our IP System? Such as forum/blog mods etc?
Because it would be so annoying to have to re mod parts of our forum every time we update?!

If the modifications you have are skin or file modifications - in other words those that don't use the hooks system, then yes they will need reapplying.

Unless I am missing something here but if you are going to release updates every week then would seem like your programmes are going to be full of bugs/errors when released.

If that is the case then why not stick to how you have been releasing instead of every week ?

Seems like extra work for skinners as would have to update their skins every week ?

Unless as I say am missing something or not understanding that part but that is what it seems like to me

Please read replies by myself, Charles and Mark above :)

  8. I think people are being confused by what was said in the blog entry. We won't be releasing an update to IP.Board 3.1 every week, we'll be releasing an update to one of our applications each Tuesday.

The first week (26th) we will release IP.Board 3.1.3, you can update to this and will be fine. The following week an application from the list Charles posted will be released, and so forth. There won't be a IP.Board 3.1.4 the following Tuesday, or a 3.1.5. All the updates are for different applications respectively, simply pick which ones you want to update.

but why Tuesday? why not Monday or Wednesday?

It doesn't make sense to release something on a Monday - we have to deal with the backlog from the weekend so Monday's are generally quite busy for us. Tuesday gives us the whole of Monday to sort anything that may have cropped up, whilst giving us the rest of the week to deal with support for the release. It's going to be very busy though :)

It just depends on if you want a topic about you or not. If it happens the way you want it to (topic made or not made), then you're lucky, otherwise unlucky. My birthday came and went and no one made a topic about it. I dodged the bullet on that one. :D

My case, a birthday topic was very unlucky :(

  11. There's been numerous talks about an app-store styled system here on the resource site, I know it's something a lot of people have been wanting since the IP.Nexus days, and there have been so many talks 'behind closed doors' about it, it's certainly being considered but as Charles said it does come with a few issues.

As to the blog entry, good work Mark, sounding good ;)

  12. [quote name='Brandon D' date='Feb 12 2009, 07:27 PM']So you're saying that all of that stuff is already possible with converge? But what I'm concerned with is being able to add my *own* requests & functions. I don't want to be limited to what converge can do already. So say I want to grab the last 10 posts by x member from Joomla, I'd like to send that request via the converge app on Joomla to IPB and then be able to route that request to my custom function within IPB's converge app. Or say I need to add a custom field... or get custom field data. Or add a topic or reply. Hell if I could do this then I'd be excited beyond belief - that would mean the converge apps (both Joomla and IPB's) would pretty much be the same for each application I bridge - just the application's extensions would be different.

If I can do all of that then my biggest concern at this point would be the encoding. Just glancing at the Beta Assistance forums and seeing all those people have problems with getting ioncube set up turns me way off to the idea of requiring ioncube for JIB or any other of my products.

You can define custom functions within the Converge modules. IPS uses a custom module to get license data across, you can just do the same with posts.

  13. I think a fall-back method should be implemented. But then that would be an issue on the IP.Board end instead, as that is where authentication for IPB occurs. Maybe if it cannot successfully connect to Converge, fall back onto the standard login method?

  14. @FrostedPopTart, there's really no reason for it to be unencoded, its not like you need to modify the base code at all, as everything plugs into it. I am sure that there will be some good documentation for 1.1, and we are going to have a few areas on the resource site to list all converge-ready applications, which should help everyone.
