You can add custom profile fields to the member card at the side of a post, in the manner shown in the guide below. With regard displaying awards, and existing fields, you would need customisation in order to achieve this.

Take a look at the display formatting section specifically on these, and if you have any questions, please let us know.

Marc, is there a way to make custom fields show in threads viewed on a mobile device?

  2. I'd just do one of the two things that you said:  Create a new group which has the necessary restrictions for problematic members, or just ban them.

I started running forums about 25 years ago.  I learned early-on that it only takes one bad apple to poison the well.  Sometimes getting rid of those people is the best thing you can do for your community.

This was the update that killed it!

    • EA-10575: Update ea-php80 from 8.0.16 to 8.0.17.

I can confirm that this is the version of PHP that I am running on my server which experienced the same problem.  I am pretty sure, however, that I was running on this same version of PHP for quite a while before the site inaccessible problem occurred.  My community JUST went inaccessible about 24 hours ago, but I hadn't upgraded PHP any more recently than a few months ago.

  4. This is critical for me at the moment.  My community is down after an attempted move of files back to local storage from Amazon S3.  Everything was running fine prior to me telling the forum software to move files back to local storage from S3.

The error that I am getting is "Illegal offset type in isset or empty"

    2022-03-16_11-35-06.jpg.7d952e3e748374ab79e33219e76c2628.jpg

I cannot access the community or the Admin control panel.  I've tried manually copying all of my files back to local storage to no avail.  The files copied fine but I am still not able to get into the forum.

I've also tried restoring from a backup of the forum database taken a few hours prior to moving TO S3 storage, which was also prior to trying to move some of the files BACK FROM S3 storage.  This didn't work either.

    HELP!!!!  😞

You need to ensure you enable ACLs on the S3 setup. This is what you are missing there. I have it on my list to update the guide for this, which I will be doing hopefully later today

@Marc Stridgen just a gentle nudge on this as the guide is still out of date.  🙂

  6. This still very much needs to be a thing.  @bfarber, any word on when we might see this?

I have a fairly large community which sees some "seasonal" membership driven by political events.  When those people lose interest or the world changes, they stop visiting.  I try to cull them out due to inactivity, but sometimes I get hit with a spam complaint because one of them was too lazy to unsubscribe the right way.

I'd like to make this a lot easier for them by including the list-unsubscribe tag in the email header so that GMail and other clients would give them a one-click unsubscribe option.

Social media companies are constantly adding value and creating better user experiences for "free" for their users to partake of.

"Free" is a very misleading term when it comes to social media platforms.  Users of social media voluntarily become the product in exchange for being able to use the "free" things that social media companies make available to them.

I would rather pay Invision for the continued evolution of IPBoard, and pay extra for premium features that go above and beyond what the basic platform provides, than have Invision incorporate Facebook-esque marketing algorithms into the software and monetize my community's members for Invision's gain.

I agree. Creating a shop outside IPS says a lot about Commerce and what they are doing, well, what they are NOT doing. Crazy!

    Oh, you mean...

What they're doing well by focusing on their core competencies rather than trying to do in-house embroidery and order fulfillment of apparel?

Now IPS is focused on selling t-shirts instead of listening to it's clients @Jordan Miller . You are wasting your resources on selling a bunch of t shirts instead of listening to your clients, those who pay you every year to get your support.

This is the last thing I expected to see 😞 IPS is a software developer, not a apparel store.

You made my point for me before I made it myself.  Thanks.

Some of y'all are just looking for rocks to throw at people, and in absence of rocks will try to hurl an embroidered hoodie at them instead.   Do better.

We have conversations to start per day and per minute. This would cover starting new conversations but not replying to existing conversations or those conversations sent to theme by users who can send messages.

Jim, thanks for this.  If I set a zero (0) value in the "Per Day" field, does that effectively stop them from starting a new conversation?

I know that this may sound obtuse, but sometimes zero equals no limit so I wasn't sure if a value of zero in the field was the equivalent of checking the box for "Unlimited".

    Thanks.

    Yes, that is correct.

I wanted to come back to this and provide an update.  The method that @Jim M outlined of limiting the conversations that a particular user group can start per day, and setting it to ZERO, worked perfectly for my scenario.

I have combined this with some simple Member Group Promotion rules elsewhere in the Admin Panel, which moves users from their initial group of New Member  to one called Active Member after certain criteria are met.  The Active Member group removes the "zero per day" restriction on starting new conversations.

So, good success here and, again, my appreciation to @Jim M and the rest of you for your help.

  11. I would like to restrict certain user groups from sending Private Messages on my forum.  Is this possible natively, or is there an add-on that does this?

    Scenario:

    • We frequently deal with a problem wherein someone will join my community and start spamming members privately.

    • I would like to set up a promotions schema where "New Members" can't send private messages.  After a few days and/or a few pubic postings made to show that they aren't a spam-bot, they would be automatically promoted to "Full Member" status.

    • Full Member status would allow use of private messages.

Thanks in advance for any help or recommendations.  🙂

  12. Because I hate it when folks say they've figured out their own issue but then don't share more detail that might help someone else solve their own similar problem, here are some more things that I hope will aid others.

First, as of version 4.6.10, this is found in the IPBoard Admin CP under Settings > Advanced Configuration > Server Environment > Tasks

    image.thumb.png.724a5edc86888d2aa68d2252b7c8f7b6.png

I then just needed to go into my cron job on my server and update the string there.  Here's how it looks on my WHM managed server under the CPANEL for this particular website.

Once I did the above, my scheduled tasks began to run properly in IPB and the backlog of processes cleared up.

OK, I solved this one myself.  Big "derp" moment.

I had updated the version of PHP running on my WHM-managed server.  I needed to go back to the Task Method settings inside of my IPB Admin CP and copy the cron task string that it provided, into the definition of the cron job that runs every minute to execute the task in CPanel.

Hopefully this is enough info to help someone else who might run into this issue.
