Why don't you use a pre-fix with the title like: [Cloud Only] New Live Community Features!
Save all us self-hosters some time in our day...

Will this also be available for self-hosted instances?

It would be interesting to see how this would work on a mobile device!
Everything always seems to be shown on a computer and never on a mobile phone when the majority of people will access most forums on a mobile these days

With Native mobile, web push... IPS is on the modern need trend way, but still pending the UI clunky and use of space in mobile issues... And yes, I have hope again!
Oh forgot mention... The Editor too

Great! .
But in the next updates can you create something special for tags or something simple to create a listing with all tags in alphabetical order? A tag search with ajax ... Anything that helps in the fast search and organization of reference content that is not just the categories, since the index of the forums must follow this pattern of the fluid mode with few categories.

Silnei L Andrade reacted to AlexWebsites in 4x4 What Do Visitors See When They Visit?
I'm doing this lately for specifically mobile. Found out that I had an addthis sharing widget that was blocking some buttons on mobile. Also looking at how easy or hard it is to post and navigate. Lately I'm trying to moderate through mobile just to see how everything is as 65-70% of my traffic this year seems to be from mobile devices.

Silnei L Andrade reacted to Joel R in The hidden cost of doing nothing
There's a regulatory and compliance concern with staying updated. GDPR had far reaching implications for communities that provide services or products in the EU, and communities have to upgrade to stay in compliance with GDPR features. This is on top of the general security and bug fixes in every major update.
This IPS blog post is actually a great follow up to mine on competition. Although I talked about competition in a general sense, reacting opportunistically includes keeping up with technology advancements -- a fundamental aspect for online communities or digital brands. The hidden costs of staying behind are real for professional communities.
For example:
Cost of bad performance. According to Forrester Consulting, two seconds is the threshold for an average online shopper's expectations and 40% of shoppers will abandon your site after 3 seconds. [Source] Cost of not being mobile friendly. According to market research from iAcquire, 40% of users will go back and click another search engine result if the first one they land on is not mobile-friendly. [Source] Cost of distracting registrations. Using burdensome registration forms are a barrier for guests and diminish their motivation (Preece et al., 2004). All of these pain points of outdated technology are addressed in IPS 4.4 which includes performance improvements, mobile improvements, and registration improvements.
Online communities who don't stay updated are incurring a very real cost of depreciation that hurts their engagement, their membership, their conversions, and their digital sales.

We can take this big step to have a form before the list of forums for the user already insert content, something similar to the attached figure?
This is the type of UI most commonly used in the social networks. Users are already familiar with this, it would help a lot.
Instead of the "Select Forum" popup it could be a "next step" form/page for the user to choose the best place to post the topic he just wrote. This would help in addition to other things to reduce the sending of topics in the wrong forums.

@Mr 13 We've actually optimized all images in the suite too; the default coverphoto image is now ~280KB. Also, cover photos across the suite are indeed lazy loaded too.
@Joel R Yes there's a background task that will clean up the existing letter photos.
For developers, I wanted to add that our lazy loading utility is very flexible, so you can actually use it to lazy load whatever you want, and pretty finely control what happens (with preload, load and post-load callbacks). We hook into IntersectionObserver which is a new(ish) API in browsers that make it super efficient to check when an element comes into view. Of course, our regular content controllers already handle lazy loading images and videos in UGC for you, but if your apps have other areas where it'd be useful, you can do that quite easily 🙂

Also, will IPS include a cleanup tool to delete and remake the existing Letter Profile avatars?
-
Silnei L Andrade reacted to bfarber in 4.4: Turbo charging loading speeds
It's actually less necessary there because we end up with one single image file (which the browser will download once and cache) for all default cover photos, and then we overlay it with a randomized color - thus you don't have 100 image files downloading, just one (and only if it hasn't already been downloaded).

Some thoughts:
- the abandon email is a really smart re-engagement reminder. I give you +1 for this
- not a fan of the full page refresh to the registration form, I think the modal registration window is psychologically smoother and less of a hindrance
- why don't you offer social sign-ins next to email input for streamlined sign in?
