SoloInter reacted to AlexWebsites in Grow your community without limits
I just don't see myself ever moving to cloud. I'm hosting multiple IPS sites on one dedicated box and the costs and customizability outweigh the price of any cloud packages for me. It would be triple if not more annually. I don't spend much time managing my server. I use cpanel/whm and pretty much set and forget, with the occasional updates. A lot of things are on autopilot. Now, if you are hosting others, custom packages, different software and such, then its more server management work. I'll also say that I don't run majorly busy sites with a need for massive architecture. Under 100K users each a month. If your dedicated server is only for you and you know what's on it and what you need, its not hard at all if you are using third party software like cpanel.
I've done a comparison and it costs me max $22-30 per site per month (depending on what apps) with server and IPS software updates. Yes, I am not taking into a consideration any more new sites where you have to pay the upfront software cost. I've long paid for that and will probably not add any more sites based on the direction with cloud features. Even upgrade fees used to be lower until they raised them to every six months. I was able to absorb that. I just would not be able to move to an $89 creator plan on each. Even the beginner plan at $49 with forum only would not work for all my sites. In total, it would cost me $4-5K more per year in fees, which would come directly out of my earnings/profits. I see no reason for me to do that. I'd sooner move to another platform.
Now, if IPS comes out with some sort of discount per license that brings the prices way down and close to my current operating costs, I'd be willing to revisit. Just a little feedback 😉

Oh dear god in the heavens above, yes, can we get it to look like the image on the right? This looks MUCH better and takes up less space, obviously. PLEASE IPS....

Great work as always IPS. Love the focus on mobile, this is very important, as more and more people are visiting our forums on mobile these days.
--------------------------------
This stands out to me: Is it possible to have the Follow text centered, even if the following count was in the thousands, there should still be enough room to keep the Follow text centered.
I was going to say also isn't possible to put the < Go To Topic Listing and the Next unread topic > on the same line? But would there be a circumstance where there would be more words for either, which I would then see how they both couldn't fit on the same line.

I love the new look; overall changes.
Hopefully, overall DOM size has been reduced.
Have you guys tested and compared speed improvements between 4.xxx and 4.5? Mobile? Desktop?
Mobile should be just as fast as desktop (or close to it). I believe Google PageSpeed/Lighthouse default tests speed are Fast 3G/Slow 4G.
That's definitely not the case with the current Forums site. HUGE difference.
Yes, we all know that it's not the same as the default platform or how each site will run. But, it is the first thing that potential customers will experience/test.
I'll attach screenshots of the CURRENT speed per Google PageSpeed ... and when IPS converts site to 4.5 I'll share those screenshots as well.
Personally, I just want to see before/after results. 🙂

It will be great if it's optimized according to Google pagespeed....

Too much empty space. It looks like an abstract Dribbble-layout for a portfolio, not for real use.

Thank you for updating the template. Looks good.
We do have a question: Why is this space unused? With many messages it becomes difficult to scroll through all of them and there is no way to expand the list. It would be nice if there was - especially on larger screens. 🙂 Thank you.

Good spot - that happens because on the invisible widget container above the main content. We’ll figure out a solution 🤞

You can use new CSS features to do this in (literally) four lines of code 🙂
#ipsLayout_sidebar { position: sticky; top: 0; }

SoloInter reacted to TSP in GDPR updates for Invision Community 4.3.3
@Matt On deletion of members:
Could there be an option to define the name to attribute to on that page directly? So we could input for example "Member 3312" (where 3312 would be their memberId). This will keep the discussion still somewhat reader friendly, so it would still be possible to differentiate different accounts as having written in the discussion, for readers reading old content.
Alternatively let the Anonymize attribution do a md5 hash on the (memberId+some community specific value that is unlikely to be changed) and grab the first 8 letters or something.

SoloInter reacted to Janyour in 4.3: Engagement Improvements
Hello guys,
i would suggest adding an automatic newsletter (digest) sent to the latest X month active members,
we have a big community with 80.000 and we cant send emails to all of them,
the best is to send digest to active members in latest 30 days for example (last login, post, comment, ..).
It will reengage them again and again.
we are doing that with an external service (acy mailing for joomla) and work pretty great.
