Invision Community 4.3 Coming Soon

Our recent release of Invision Community 4.2 was the most well-received version ever! The feedback we received on new features like Clubs, Reactions, and Promotes was better than we could have hoped and we really enjoyed seeing all the creative uses as people implemented them on their own communities.

We have been hard at work on version 4.3 with a goal of improving on all the great new features. It is well under way and we are happy to able to start announcing what's new over the next few weeks.

Invision Community 4.3 will not only contain new features but also have a core focus on refinement from 4.2's new features. You will see many improvements to Clubs, new integration options, large application improvements, new promotional features, and more changes large and small.

You can expect to see news posts about new features and changes very soon with a release date in early 2018. Follow our news section or subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates.

Fix search? You guys have been promising us forever. Please, anything! :D

Integrated Google site search. That's all I want for Christmas. And loads of other stuff.

Yes, exactly. Clubs on site-wide scale. I want to have, for example, global mods (or a few mods per category) that are added to the group by a leader which doesn't have ACP access. This could be solved having group leaders.

I've actually got roughly this as a plugin - currently it's only one group able to promote into only one group, but I can see how it could be changed to allow for multiple groups. I'm not releasing it as I'm an amateur and my code's a mess, but if you want a look start a topic asking how to do it and tag me and I'll share what I've got. Would still need some coding to make it do what you want.

Was skin tone the actual priority to improve emoji management? I don't say it's not cool (it is), but I hope it comes with deeper improvements, on the ACP side especially! ^^ I really love 4.2 and am excited to see the new features, but really, ACP emoji panel is a pet peeve.

PLEASE fix Search as promised. I have members now mobilized to upload thousands of PDF files to our Downloads section. But, if we can't search and find them by the short model numbers of the equipment involved (B-210, 3314, etc.) then they are of limited value.

Finish up the new social promotion by allowing us to Promote to a FB Group instead of just a FB page. Finally, make the FB Share reliably pull an image from the body of a Topic being shared. It works fine in some parts of the suite, but not in the forums.

I have the same problem here. I hope this update ends this horrible limitation.

Yay!  I just upgraded to v4.2.5 a few days ago -- after waiting for the dust to settle on the ~25 plug-ins/apps I run, and hadn't seen this.  I can now finally shut down my old site that I've kept live, yet locked, for a year waiting on this...

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

When will this be released, since it isn't in v4.2.5?

You're talking about full-text indexing of uploaded files - I don't think IPS is planning that - their search only crawls the database content (e.g., text entered into the site).

Yeah, this is not full-text indexing of documents. You might want to check with IPS or wait for a reply on this thread. If IPS offered something like that (like what DTSearch offers), they would probably break search out into a separate app of the suite and charge for it.

No, I am not. I am talking about searching for short or hyphenated terms (model number) within the suite and in titles or tags on the items indexed or catalogued in the suite.

Charles gave me the answer that I have been waiting a year on...

Ah, sorry - when you mentioned uploading PDFs into your Downloads section, I thought you meant the codes you wanted to search for were within the uploaded files themselves.

Skin tone? Really?

Perhaps an effort to support unicode standard emojis that people are used to seeing on mobile devices / social networks.

The unicode standard has 5 skin tone modifiers: Light, Medium-Light, Medium, Medium-Dark, Dark.

Yeah. It's ok to add it. I just have a personal issue with this whole thing with institutionalized formats being disseminated. I think highlighting a skin tone difference between people causes racism by making sure the gap between peoples is always visible.

Alas this is a software forum and my opinion does not count on things like this nor would I expect it to :)

I'm not mad or hating either. *shrugs*

It wasn't our decision either - you should check out any modern smartphone or social media site ;)

For what it does matter though, I think the addition of different skin tones and genders to many emojis is great... all the emojis representing professions being white and male was a bit ridiculous.

Until they started adding all these colour and gender versions, I never once associated the emoji with an actual colour/gender representation, but now they've forced an association... does that mean I have to post the same emoji in 5 colours in both genders so that I don't offend some specific person who gets offended over a colour or gender of an emoji.

Anyway, not that's its an IPS problem.

Its the old, lets fight putting people in a box by making more boxes. Works every time... not.

They've (not-ips) manipulated us all into a mindset I hate. What ever happened to the world we used to live in.

What's important for me is :

- making the community easy to use for "normal" people while keeping all the good options.

- giving priority to images above text : I believe people are attracted by images ( for example : the gallery block, the "Our picks" block which allows images) rather than text only (I talk about it here for example).

Just my opinion, but I'm no expert at all. :)
