Invision Community 4.2

Here is the roundup of what's new in Invision Community 4.2!

Highlights

There's a lot of new feature in 4.2 but here are a few of the highlights:

Promoting ContentA new way to promote content in your Community internally, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

ClubsClubs are a brand new way of supporting sub-communities within your site. Many people have requested social group functionality in the past and Clubs are our implementation of this concept.

ReactionsOffer more fine-grained sentiments towards content than a simple up/down or 'like'. They are now in common usage on social networks, and so users expect to be able to be more nuanced in their response to something they see.

Complete Your ProfileEncourage or require members to fill out the details on their profile. Also now allows for quick registration to encourage joining.

And a whole lot more..

It goes on... here is the full list!

Be sure to visit each entry above for more information and screenshots. We hope you enjoy Invision Community 4.2!

Three questions;

1. When is summer? I'm assuming its coming up. I'm in the middle of Winter. :)

2. Will there be any improvements to PM's? I find the current UI terrible for dealing with lots of messages.

3. Will there be any change to search? Namely any Sphinx or Elastic etc support?

Thanks guys,

Christian

@Charles and the entire IPS team, while I do appreciate the "When its ready" sentiment, please keep in mind that you have stagnated the release cycle for almost 2 months now. Meanwhile, pretty serious bugs discovered in 4.1 are waiting 4.2 fixes. Not only that, but 3rd party devs have also stopped fixing bugs with the promise that updates are coming with 4.2, which is understandable.

While I fully agree that it is important that rock solid product is released, please consider whether dragging it too long doesn't cause more harm then good.

Jair, they are not late not waiting "too long". Why to rush? let´s do them their job: releasing a new version full of new features, and reliable enough to run in ours communities.

BTW: 3rd party devs are releasing a lot of excellent and much needed software too, so even this "pause" has this advantage as they can take time to make new stuff for us

It's not too long - it's right on schedule for the summer release we originally said :)

I seam to be having a problem with the constants.php file

Ok i created a constants.php in text and loaded it up to the root of the forum which also has the init.php in the same location...

Could someone upload a constants.php file that works for them so i can upload and try it out see if it works.

Here's what i was doing as IPS show:-

In themes would if be ok to delete the default theme now I'm running 4.2 beta 8 ...?

Or would it be possible to NOT have it show as an option in the front end...?

Question? If I download this will anything change my forum theme?

Anything else I should be concerned about when running the auto upgrade from the Admin Panel?

Thanks in advance. I'm always leary of upgrading to a major release, but I'm also really excited about the changing included in this one.
