Invision Community Blog

Our take on managing successful online communities

Invision Community 4.2

Invision Community 4.2 is now available as a beta in the client area. The final release will be later in summer 2017.

Here is the roundup of what's new in Invision Community 4.2!

Highlights

There's a lot of new feature in 4.2 but here are a few of the highlights:

Promoting ContentA new way to promote content in your Community internally, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

ClubsClubs are a brand new way of supporting sub-communities within your site. Many people have requested social group functionality in the past and Clubs are our implementation of this concept.

ReactionsOffer more fine-grained sentiments towards content than a simple up/down or 'like'. They are now in common usage on social networks, and so users expect to be able to be more nuanced in their response to something they see.

Complete Your ProfileEncourage or require members to fill out the details on their profile. Also now allows for quick registration to encourage joining.

And a whole lot more..

It goes on... here is the full list!

Be sure to visit each entry above for more information and screenshots. We hope you enjoy Invision Community 4.2!

Release

The final release will be available summer 2017. The supported, public beta is available in the client area now.

CSS and Javascript content are already minified and combined (where logical) behind the scenes - no secondary processing needed (this is done by the theme system automatically).

I think that's not correct. In my forums I do see a lot of requests to different JS and CSS files: iZ4BxNV.png

Is there an extra option which needs to get activated to combine js and css files?

You may have misunderstood. Not ALL javascript is combined into one file - instead, multiple files are combined into files, but that does not mean there is only one file as the end result. For example, in your screenshot you see front_front_widgets.js - this would be all files under applications/core/dev/js/front/controllers/widgets/ (there are 4). CSS is similarly grouped so that instead of 50 files being output during normal execution, there are maybe 5 or 10 (it all depends on what page you view).

Is the last beta stable enough to start using it? Or should we wait for the stable release?

Is there any ugly open bug?

I'm using it on a live board with about 50k members, no issues reported to me yet.

I have it on my little site.  And so far so good.  It even allowed some plugins to work that were not working before.  I did lose my "Next" page row.  But not sure that was version 4.2 that did that.  I'm still searching that one out.  But everything else is good to go.

How can i delete an extra Club Feature like "Topics 2" "Events 2" ? I still find an edit option (manage Club) but no delete button.

Oh, you can delete it only in the admin Center. But there you can find only the second Calendar/Event, not the second "Topics". A bug?

Only in the ACP currently.

Would really like to see the ability to place specific adverts in specific clubs.

It would also be nice to rearrange the tabs (menu) inside of clubs.

I like everyone else is so excited about the imminent release of 4.2.

i do have a few queries though - that may have already been answered (if they have, please forgive me).

With the installation of 4.2, will it be the same as other updates, or is the process more involved?

Will existing marketplace plugins/add ons/mods work with the new release, or is it dependent on a case-by-case basis?

Regards,

ClubCuddly.

Technically just another regular update. But if you have theme customizations or a custom theme, that likely requires an update. Lot’s of things have changed here.

The latter.

Hello!

I'm  excited as everyone else. However, I do have question about clubs.

can we categorise clubs? As like:

category 1: club a, club b, club c etc.

category 2: club a, club b, club c etc

sorry for being vague.

thanks.
