IPS Community Suite 4.1 Update

We have had IPS Community Suite 4.1 running on our own community site for several weeks now and are very happy with how it's taking shape. All the feedback has been very helpful and we have made many refinements to the new features and are looking forward to seeing what everyone does with them.

The first two public betas have gone very well with no major bugs - just the normal sort of issues you expect to see in a large update. In fact, the betas have gone so well that we have actually fixed more bugs leftover from 4.0 than have been reported for 4.1!

We originally planned on releasing 4.1 later this week but have decide to delay the release until the end of October so we have a couple more weeks to do more betas and further refine this release. Version 4.1 not only introduces many features but it also includes many low-level changes to enhance performance and be more robust with error handling. We have been very happy with the pace that we are implementing fixes and enhancements so we want to keep that up and think just a couple weeks of delay is well worth it for all.

If you are interested in helping to test beta releases they are now available in the client area. Just keep in mind we do not provide support for betas and you cannot upgrade from beta to the final release. They should only be on test copies.

Thank you for all the feedback! We are excited for 4.1 and know that a lot of you are waiting for it with great anticipation.

Any ETA on converters from other forumsoftware directly to 4.x  ?

This. Really want to move a 2M post vBulletin instance over to 4.1, was just about to buy until I noticed no converters available.

Mmm, we're having to wait for the database fix for 4.1 (New templates for when viewing the record homepage as 'articles'Templates) so that's a bit annoying.

I was surprised that IP.Content took a step back in that regard.

That's great that 4.1 is looking so polished already. Well done guys!

Unfortunately, I was hoping to migrate my board from 3.4 to 4.1 in the next week or so. I don't particularly want to introduce people to 4.0 and then change it on them a few days later when 4.1 comes out. I also have a looming deadline with a sponsor that I'd really like to be on 4.1 for.

I know this is one of those annoying questions that you can't officially recommend, but... :p

Would it be absolutely catastrophic to go live on a beta version of 4.1?

Yes. Re-read the blog post and you'll see that it's not possible to upgrade from the beta's to the final version, so you'd be stuck on the beta forever. ;)

When can we expect the major search change overhaul that was talked about a couple months ago?  I am in limbo right now with my developer, designing an improved search, waiting to see what IPS releases.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a images rebuild/resize feature get's added in the 4.1 release, ever since we upgraded our 3.4.x forum to 4.0.x we have suffered from that all pre-upgrade images in post are displayed as thumbnails. Keep up the good work!

Wow I think after years the IPS team will have a "relatively" peaceful XMAS / Holiday season for having planned 4.1 in advance for OCT release!

Cheers guys!
