4.0 - AdminCP Reordering

Different staff members typically have different roles within a community - especially larger communities, where you may have staff responsible for the theme, others handling tickets and different staff maintaining the system. In 3.x, we had a 'Bookmarks' system in the AdminCP that allowed you to create a menu of frequently-used sections in an effort to make them easier to get to, rather than navigating the main menus.

As with every feature in IPS4, we took some time to think about what this Bookmark feature aimed to achieve, and whether it was the best way to achieve it (seriously - we have considered everything you'll see in IPS4 very carefully; nothing gets a free pass).

We determined through speaking to administrators that the primary use of this feature was actually to get to one place quickly - whatever place that might be. It appeared to be rarely used as an actual bookmarks menu, and besides, duplicating browser functionality should always send up a red flag. We decided to rethink the idea.

What we decided to do instead is allow AdminCP menus, both primary and secondary, to be reordered on a per-admin basis. This means each admin can set the AdminCP menu up however works best for themselves. If you use the theme system a lot, you can make that your first menu item. Or, if you use the ticket system in Nexus, you can put that first.

Here's how it works:

still no developement for Messenger - thing which is very usefull on bigger boards.

Messenger was the first aspect of the front-end to be completed actually. There will be blogs about it - just because a blog about an area hasn't shown up, it doesn't mean it isn't done or that we've forgotten about it :)

If I buy IP Board when it is 3.4.6, I can have version 4.0 when it will be release?

As long as the license is still active, then yes. Otherwise, it's just a $25 renewal for access to downloads and support.

These posts over the last quarter has really got me interested in what they will do with nexus and specificly the frontend of the site Will it become a pagebuilder type of management. Will the customization be object dock oriented or still dumped down to header, body, sidebars, bottom and be able to customize from there.

Looking forward to future company blogs!

Heres an interesting suggestion.....

If the main administrator of the board wants to setup an Admin CP for certain Staff then said administrator would find more use if these menus could be customized per staff group depending on how the main administrator would see fit. This would be much better than what this feature is currently offering because simply put, this is like bookmarks and staff groups should have their own admin control panel dedicated to their tasks because at the end of the day... explaining to each staff member to reorganize their menu is just silly.

Cmon Invision Power Services, think outside the box!
