IP.Nexus First Pre-Sale

We are very excited to be nearing the first public beta release of IP.Nexus! There has been much interest in the community for this new product and we cannot wait to get it out the door so everyone can start to enjoy its ecommerce, support, and other features.

As this product deals with monetizing your community, we are being very careful with its release. We do not want to release a product that might be unstable when it is designed to collect money on your behalf. Therefore, we are going to offer pre-sales for IP.Nexus in two phases. The first phase will be limited to 50 people and will be offered at a generous discount off the retail price. In return for this large discount, these 50 people will have access to pre-beta release of IP.Nexus and a private forum to give us feedback.

The final, retail price of IP.Nexus will be $74.99 plus an optional renewal of $35 every 6 months for continued support, services, and upgrades. For this first round of limited pre-sale, we will be offering the first 50 people to buy IP.Nexus a reduced up-front price of $50 plus no renewals for a full year.

Once this first limited, 50 sale offer is full we will not accept new sales until our second pre-sale which will come when the first, public beta is available. The second pre-sale will be offered to unlimited people for a short time so please keep an eye on our company blog for updates.

Please note that if you are one of the lucky 50 pre-orders, no ticket support will be offered. You are also going to be using pre-beta software so there will be issues and we will appreciate your feedback and bug reports.

To order, simply login to the client area and click New Purchase. You will see IP.Nexus under IP.Board Optional Addons. Once the first 50 are sold out it will disappear so act now! Once you purchase, login to the company forums with same you use in the client area and you will see an IP.Nexus testing forum appear under the Customer Lounge forum.

First 50 Sold Out

In just an hour we have sold out of the first 50 pre-sale licenses. Please keep an eye on our company blog for the public pre-sale coming soon. Thanks for your support!

As have been said, we wanted to keep it to 50 people to limit all the rush of feedback. We have already received some great points from the 50 who got in.

For those complaining I would say to simply look at the history of IPS. We always take care of our clients and this time will be no different. As the announcement states: there will be another pre-sale and that one won't be limited by number of people but by time instead.

I understand and agree with the keeping it small, though the selection of first 50 to buy was far from scientific. What if some of the 50 doesn't install, or what if the same person bought 4? I think hand picking select people by the feedback they give in forums and bug tracker would have been slightly more beneficial.

I just want to point out that in addition to the customers who bought into the presale, we do also have several customers who are on our "beta testing" team, and additionally our Community Resources and Community Developers (both very committed groups of individuals who do a lot of work) have access to the beta.

We have the Community teams, who are generally technically minded and know how our software works inside and out. These teams will give us valuable feedback at the code level.

We have the hand picked beta testers team that are very much interested in our releases and who generally do a thorough job of testing alphas/betas, so we are confident we will get good feedback from this team as we usually do.

And now we have regular customers who have purchased the pre-sale, and we are confident that at least some of these users will contribute to the feedback. Indeed, already Mark is fielding questions and taking in their suggestions.

It's a staggered approach - we're just advancing to the next level is all. After this, I believe, we'll be looking at a public beta (at which point we will hold another pre-sale).

The problem with announcing it ahead of time, aside from the fact of a billion people being on the site at the time the presale started and the 50 copies disappearing instantly, is that you'd likely have more people who just want to get a head start on it but who wouldn't really provide any feedback.

With the "out of the blue" announcement, you get a more reliable sampling of people who are going to be visiting the site and therefore more likely to give feedback on it. So those who don't normally visit the site are less likely to snag a copy and then not report back on anything.

It's sort of like doing a survey of which is better, Star Trek -vs- Star Wars (I like them both, personally). If you give a months notice about the survey, then you'll have a large crowd of die hard fans (from both camps) and you wouldn't get a true sampling of ordinary people giving feedback. Okay not the best example in the world but the point is still valid.

I know that this "offs" some people, but when you think about it, but it's about as fair as you can get without things going nuts.

The problem with hand selecting people to buy and test is that inevitably someone will claim that they visit the site enough and feel slighted that they weren't asked. On a compromised note, if IPS had asked a few select people (say 5 or 10) and then made the announcement, so that the remaining (40 or 45) slots would get sold out by other people, then that probably could have worked as well because IPS could have picked a few people that are known developers or have expressed a deep need for the product, knowing that their feedback and bug reports would most likely be suited to their needs and possibly being more thorough, which could possibly give the betas a better reliability factor. That's just my opinion though. IPS may have considered an idea like that and had reasons to not use it.

Either way, I think they did it in a way that makes sense. The only unfortunate part is that there's no real way to please everyone with it.

Edit: Did I really spend nearly an hour to think up and type a reply? I didn't see Charles/bfarbers comments at first.

I don't think anyone is that angry/annoyed. I don't care about not getting to alpha test! Really doesn't matter to me :).

The only thing I cared about was the pricing. They have mentioned that another presale will go ahead later, so I can assume it will remain the same deal. :) And if it isn't, we can always riot in the streets and send angry cat pictures with clever mispelled slogans!

......will be offered at a generous discount off the retail price.

think that was a mistake

not only does it mean that people feel they are missing out on getting their hands on the latest product but may also feel that they are losing out $ wise as well

wonder how many of the 50 purchased purely for the "generous discount" ?
it made sense to do so going by the way its been worded

[quote name='The Old Man' date='27 July 2010 - 03:56 AM'] I'm not sure if this was one one IPS' best ideas, but I'm sure it would have been hard to guess the consequences of this decision without a crystal ball! :ermm:

You have basically created two camps and split your potential Nexus customers into them, from what I can see.

I agree, it should have been announced a few days in advance.

Possibly a better idea would have been to assemble a team of alpha/beta testers who are potential customers to test encrypted, time-restricted releases.

Will the same offer price of this first pre-sale be for the 2nd pre-sale also?
Its not ready for a live board, but I kinda wanted the lowered price.
Then again, it was kind of IPS to even offer that sort of deal.
It isn't like they had to.
They have every right to price it as whatever they want.
It is their product, but its up to you to make the choice of buying it or not.
I'm sure they will work something out and have great reasoning of doing what they do and they definitely haven't "stuffed" us.

Same here. I just wanted the same discounted price...
I guess it was a good thing someone else got in before me in order to test it out.

I'm pretty sure most of them just purchased due to the release of it instead of the testing it out as alpha or the price.

Well we had our developer ask late last week (and many times prior) regarding the ability to get an early copy as we're doing a complete site re-design that has specific deadlines which have already been extended due to waiting on IP.Nexus.

It's understandable to want to stagger the roll-out but after waiting months to decide IF this product is even going to work for us (we need Beanstream integration...) which we can get our developer to work on... if we had access. Otherwise we have to seriously consider other e-commerce platforms which just feels stupid given we have the rest of the IP suite.

My only hope is, while the point is to get feedback up front, I hope not too much time passes between now and the 2nd pre-sale. I need to be all over that one! :)

Well if it makes everyone sleep easier, the second pre-sale will be August 9 and will be time-based not number based. It will last at least 24 hours.

I shall indeed sleep easier :). Much love and really looking forward to using IP.Nexus! Fantastic work.

I'm happy the people got in and can make feedback and the product is closer to release. This has been a long awaited product for IPB users in my eyes... I can't wait to switch to IPB and buy this product.. I'm very close to switching :)

My birthday is just days away from the date.
I'm curious, do we happen to get anything for B-days?

If you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on your point of view), you get a topic made by someone wishing you a happy birthday. :)
