IP.Nexus First Pre-Sale

We are very excited to be nearing the first public beta release of IP.Nexus! There has been much interest in the community for this new product and we cannot wait to get it out the door so everyone can start to enjoy its ecommerce, support, and other features.

As this product deals with monetizing your community, we are being very careful with its release. We do not want to release a product that might be unstable when it is designed to collect money on your behalf. Therefore, we are going to offer pre-sales for IP.Nexus in two phases. The first phase will be limited to 50 people and will be offered at a generous discount off the retail price. In return for this large discount, these 50 people will have access to pre-beta release of IP.Nexus and a private forum to give us feedback.

The final, retail price of IP.Nexus will be $74.99 plus an optional renewal of $35 every 6 months for continued support, services, and upgrades. For this first round of limited pre-sale, we will be offering the first 50 people to buy IP.Nexus a reduced up-front price of $50 plus no renewals for a full year.

Once this first limited, 50 sale offer is full we will not accept new sales until our second pre-sale which will come when the first, public beta is available. The second pre-sale will be offered to unlimited people for a short time so please keep an eye on our company blog for updates.

Please note that if you are one of the lucky 50 pre-orders, no ticket support will be offered. You are also going to be using pre-beta software so there will be issues and we will appreciate your feedback and bug reports.

To order, simply login to the client area and click New Purchase. You will see IP.Nexus under IP.Board Optional Addons. Once the first 50 are sold out it will disappear so act now! Once you purchase, login to the company forums with same you use in the client area and you will see an IP.Nexus testing forum appear under the Customer Lounge forum.

First 50 Sold Out

In just an hour we have sold out of the first 50 pre-sale licenses. Please keep an eye on our company blog for the public pre-sale coming soon. Thanks for your support!

...but you have to consider that IPS's office is in the United States...

How about IPS' customers? Believe it or not, the world consists of more than just the USA and IPS have customers the world over.

You can't please all of the people all of the time... so don't get your panties in a wad guys. :)

No more what time we post something someone would have been asleep, awake, at work, at home, out, on vacation, etc :)

As Hunting Insects put it so well: no need to have our undergarments uncomfortably bunched.

I personally feel that it would have been in IPS' best interests to be more selective with the first 50 users, in order to maximize the quality of the feedback on the alpha. I'm saying that as someone who was lucky enough to get in on the alpha (although it wasn't all luck, I subscribed to the IPS Company Blog to keep up to date on the IP.Nexus news)

And considering the huge chunk of money I was about to spend on custom mod development to get less than 1/3 of these features just around the time that "IP.Commerce" was announced, I'd have a hard time being upset about the price.

With the right execution, IP.Nexus might as well print money.

You all have such little faith in us  ... has IPS ever "stuffed" anyone?

There will be another pre-sale offer we just want to keep numbers low for this first go. We are being careful with IP.Nexus. It's taking money on your behalf so it needs to work as well as it can on release.

I'm only posting a negative comment for my disdain because I missed it.

Had I been on of the 50 it would have been "Best presale strategy ever".

:D

I understand and agree with the keeping it small, though the selection of first 50 to buy was far from scientific. What if some of the 50 doesn't install, or what if the same person bought 4? I think hand picking select people by the feedback they give in forums and bug tracker would have been slightly more beneficial.

But I look forward to the next presale, and can't wait to get a hold of it :D

I'm taking a guess here so I could be wrong but here's my theory.

IPS probably expects that some of the 50 won't really do anything and probably really expect only a handful of those who purchased it to actually be 'of use' with bug reports and the like. It's sort of like a sneak preview of a movie, not everyone that goes will give their opinions of what they saw, but with the number of people there, you're bound to get enough feedback to get some useful information.

oh well. I definately will not be purchasing this anymore. I understand that they would like to limit this to a certain number but having spent well over $600 with Invision Power so far, an email wouldnt have been too much to ask for. I am located in Australia which means that these announcements come at odd times for us. Bad luck for foreigners.

My slightly sour 2cents

You do realize that no matter how else they could have handled it, there will always be people who will claim that it wasn't done fairly and those same people would also be up in arms with frustration. I can understand your feeling cheated but there are times when an offer/opportunity happens and it's gone before you even know about it. It's happened to me but when you get right down to it, there's only so much that can be done and even if they had put out emails a week ahead of time and gave a specific time when it would happen, everyone who didn't manage to get in on the deal would still find some way to claim that it wasn't fair. Of course in that scenario, the 50 licenses would have been gone in a matter of just a few minutes, if that long.

Hi Wolfie,

I see your point but an email notification would have been fair. Doesnt matter, its just 1 lost sale. Nobody cares I guess.

Well the announcement does mention a second presale for early adopters, so just have to wait and see what that sale turns out to be. It's not like it was plotted against anyone specifically (example not against you), it was done to let some lucky folks in so they could help work some kinks out to get it closer to being in beta stages.

Technically, it was posted as a news announcement. Anyone subscribed to that forum (as IPS encourages) would have gotten it. Its also posted in the ACP news.

IPS *never* sends out mass emails to customers. It annoys people and causes more harm than it is worth. If you want the news, subscribe.

But at least by having prior notice, we'd have had a chance at getting the opportunity to choose if we stopped up until 3am, in the knowledge that it would be a race. It was the not knowing that's annoying.

That said I don't want to dis IPB because they have been fantastic

I really don't understand the logic behind the renewal prices IPS picks.

Since Nexus is an application more geared towards business (sales and support tickets), they will need to put more resources into fixing bugs and such so the higher renewal prices.

What happened to "Please use some of my IPB credit to purchase IP.Nexus?".
I have around $70+ or so in IPB credit...
Well nothing happened...
That's why I asked for a refund on the accidental purchase of MSSQL (way back) as credit into my IPB account and made my IPB purchase when the promo for $50 free credit with the purchase of IP.Board and 2 add-ons was going on...

EDIT:

I have to agree with friends believing its for Myspace, Facebook, and porn...

NVM I'm happy with what Charles and Wolfie said:

I see what your saying and have to agree.

Besides its not ready for a live board, but I kinda wanted the lowered price.
Then again, it was kind of IPS to even offer that sort of deal.
It isn't like they had to.

Considering one of the lead developers in UK based, would it have been fair for him to start work at 6pm to answer initial questions from alpha testers?

As it was with a 1.30pm release, he was still posting at 11:30pm.

As was mentioned above, folks can subscribe to the news forum, it was also mentioned on Twitter, by more than one person on the #ipb hashtag.

Sorry to see Richad deciding not to purchase Nexus - but I am sure that IPS ran it in the best way that was possible.

After all, whilst it is good to get feedback, it is also about promoting the product - so the company has to take the best decision it thinks based on staff availability.

IPS are not in the business of shafting anybody - so I am sure that the beta release will be a great opportunity to grab it before the final is out.

It would have been fairer if this was announced a few days before with a time it would be available  Will the 2nd pre-sale be announced a couple of days before the actual availability date?

Will the same offer price of this first pre-sale be for the 2nd pre-sale also?

I'm not sure if this was one one IPS' best ideas, but I'm sure it would have been hard to guess the consequences of this decision without a crystal ball! :ermm:

You have basically created two camps and split your potential Nexus customers into them, from what I can see.

I agree, it should have been announced a few days in advance.

Possibly a better idea would have been to assemble a team of alpha/beta testers who are potential customers to test encrypted, time-restricted releases. Give them the 50% discount as a reward for the final public release if they contribute 'reasonable' feedback and a smaller discount to existing IPS customers for the first 30 days of its release, or something like that.

I agree IPS certainly don't 'stuff' their customers but this seems to have been a bit of a PR gaffe as it appears some of your customers are miffed and feel disappointed. They'll get over it though, its not the end of the world.

I want to start seeing feedback.

I am very excited about this.

Same here :D

To all the pre-sale naysayers ...

keep in mind that IPS is going in the RIGHT direction and this is the most important point of all in this.

Just think of it this way - the pre-salers are going to bug hunt Nexus and make it better for the rest of us - and they're paying for the priveledge to do so .... we win eventually ... :D

It would be nice to see a test board though where we could play with it a bit and get a "feel" for how it all works ... hmmmm ... lol

Cheers,
Shaun :D

But then you'd want to give feedback ;)

We really want to show everyone, but at the same time, we want to hear what everyone thinks. If I was to put up a demo board, I'm sure we'd immediately get hundreds of topics, and there's no chance we'd have time to read them all.

We really care about what you think - so much so, we have to stagger revealing new products in this manner or we'd never get to hear what everyone has to say :) I'm struggling to keep up with just 50 people! ;)
