4.5: Your new admin control panel

Invision Community has come a long way over the past five years.

We've added many new features and invigorated the front-end user experience to keep it current and in-line with modern interfaces.

One area that has remained largely the same is the Admin Control Panel.

When we released Invision Community 4.0 back in 2014, the Admin Control Panel was updated but has stayed relatively dormant since.

But that's all about to change with the upcoming release of Invision Community 4.5!

ACP_Dashboard.jpg

The Admin Control Panel in 4.5 has received a substantial update, resulting in a modern color scheme and a clean, minimalistic design.

We felt that a lighter, more open design allowed the content more space and to feel less crowded.

The dark grays have been replaced with shades of blue and aqua which closely reflects Invision Community's new branding, while other colors have been lightened and saturated.

Along with the new color scheme, the overall layout of the ACP has intentionally been kept similar to the existing version, resulting in a design that feels surprisingly familiar yet refreshingly new at the same time.

We hope you've enjoyed this small sneak peek into Invision Community 4.5 and we look forward to introducing you to some more new features in the upcoming weeks!

I'm also not seeing Font Awesome 5, a bit concerning!

Yeah... I mean FA5 has been around for some time - is it a licensing/cost issue?

I realize that most IPS customers probably will never use another FA font outside of the ones you set in the application by default, but for those of us who want to do more, having FA5 incorporated into the suite would be a huge win.

The design of a new ACP has very little relevance.
I would be glad if you create an emergency ACP - when the site is down and the ACP looks "scary" or inaccessible, start an emergency ACP with access to a support tool ...🙂

Too bright, too white, prefer the current theme tbh.

Vampire

But the sparkly cool ones, like from Twilight.

Perhaps it is too bright, personally I work through the night a lot in a darkened room and the current theme is already bright enough, too bright actually, because when you switch back to IPS AdminCP from an app or site with a good night mode, it blows your eyeballs out of the back of your head!

I think it is just a beginning. It is like a good film, they start slowly with some "unimportant" features, then rise suspense, tension and BUM BUM BUM!!! At the end we have powerful reveal and are happy to have watched it to the end.

@Matt promised me that he had enough vegemite to feed the team to do a couple more updates in 4.5.

Also, I recommend that you be promoted to our sound mixer for releases.  Your "BUM BUM BUM!!!" was on point.  Most people will be blind by then due to the ACP, but at least we can listen to you.

Everyone is switching to Dark Mode, IPS is switching back to Bright Mode

I think the post from Matt isn't a "solution" for those who are finding it too:

It wouldn't make much sense to have to switch the mode every time I go to the ACP so I think he's only showing how it will be in dark mode. 🙂

-1 😎

We're ahead of the curve. In MacOS 11.0 they are going to add an "UltraBrite" mode to combat eye degeneration caused by squinting at black screens.

Matt, I appreciate the humour, can get on board with that, but at the same time I hope the feedback is being noted and considered.

I actually use my phone a lot more than I do desktop/laptop and access the admin panel verifying members daily.

We all see things different and taking the science away from it, some simply find it easier to read white text on dark backgrounds, on mobile I’m one of them where as desktop I can handle the white backgrounds a little easier for whatever reason.

Would be nice if IPS could include an inbuilt dark theme which can be toggled on/off.

When I look at the forum showcase topic, to pull a random percentage out my behind, I would say that around 95% of gaming communities for example use dark skins, there’s a lot of people out there that swing that way, this has been the case for years now so not just a passing fad.

Pretty please, just give us oddballs an alternative 🙏

We're listening and discussing internally.

As above, when Chrome is set to dark mode, the ACP looks great already.

I do not like Chrome solutions. I am already forced to change Chrome language every time I switch between German, Russian or English projects to get date/time fields and timezone displayed correctly. Chrome has made the life of bilingual really difficult. Switching between dark and light would be additional pain. I wish there were cookies that would just remember on what website I make what settings and will not change it every time trying to guess what is the best for me. These guesses fail most of the time.

Ok, it could be bright like that, but also you should add dark mode for ACP and front-end by default. I mean option to switch after dark from normal to dark mode (time based) - many sites haves it.

Time based would be the wrong approach. They will more than likely implement support for prefers-color-scheme (https://web.dev/prefers-color-scheme/), release an official dark version of the default skin and acp skin, allow admin to turn on “support native dark mode” and set the default skins for light and dark, maybe add an admin toggle profile setting to let users pick which themes to use for light and dark, and boom done. User has their device on dark mode, they get the dark skin. Can override to have always dark skin in profile or normal theme toggle. Simple, quick, painless.
