Managing successful online communities

4.5: Club Pages

Without a doubt, clubs is one of the most popular features added to Invision Community in recent times.

Invision Community clubs allows you to run sub-communities on your site. We've seen clubs used in many ways, including managing geographically local groups and clan groups for large gaming sites.

This popularity drives us to keep incrementally improving the feature set for clubs, and Invision Community 4.5 is no different.

One thing that was raised many times was a way for club owners and leaders to create simple pages with general information members need.

Happily, in Invision Community 4.5, this feature now exists (and more!)

In addition to the title and visual editor that allows full formatting of the page content, there is an additional visibility setting which allows owners and leaders to define which types of members can view the page.

This is perfect for showing a page that is only visible to non-members which informs them how to join the club.

Likewise, it is a great way to display moderation guidelines to the club moderators only.

Of course, owners and leaders will always be able to see all pages added to a club.

Additionally, once a page is added to a club, a tab will be added alongside others, and the page can be re-arranged just like the rest.

Using this, owners and leaders can create an alternative unique index page for the club.

This is just one of many club improvements finished for Invision Community 4.5. We'll be talking about these in a future blog!

Great. But please make sth with Map on clubs. Now on editing or adding club there is localisation which is default Poland for us. But when you save it it will put marker in wrong place. The same situation for other country. To make it proper we must put some City. To easy fix it you need to del Poland (or other country) and left all fields empty for the club.

2nd thing is map. Now we cant zoom it, set default position etc. So it don't look nice on start. We have 2 kinds of clubs - local clubs and companies clubs. It will be perfect to display map only for local one page:

The next clubs blog should make you very happy. 🙂

Love it.

If it would be possible to set the permission of WHO can edit the page, it would perfect, so that not only owners but also leaders have the permission.

Leaders automatically have permission to edit, just as they do for adding. 🙂

Cant wait 🙂

we have biiiig collection of clubs, and want to improve it. Our users loves it. You can check it here:

As I said - we have brand clubs with logos and local clubs by location 🙂

This is great news for us. Hope to see new stuff soon 😉

About this default mapbox position - its not showing all markers. It should center position, that all of them should be visible.

This is good! Club improvements is heading in the right direction.

1. Two requests: Option to add Club-specific blocks

2. In Club Activities page, have the option to add comments/likes right there under the activities

3. A setting to limit how many activities to show in Activities page

Adding request 3 :)

Hi,

can you remove the tabs and work on the UX design ?

There are tabs everywhere without talking about the additional applications that we install but what future solution in all this?

we must find how to remove a maximum of things, without the essential becoming absent and not accessible

I think it is possible to greatly improve the display to make navigation and display as simple as possible

Thanks,

Ok, and what about Post Before Register? This one is not working in clubs, as far as I remember. It should! Like in normal topics. On this moment there is no any call to action. Guest see the topic, but nothing more.

I do hope that when you say that only certain members will be able to see a 'page' in clubs, that there will be the ability to make a page that is only visible to members in 'that club' as opposed to splitting it up only by member groups.

I don't like (never have liked) the overlay title and info over the image.  Why can't it be on a bar above the menu and leave the image untarnished?  Also, instead on clicking on the image to expand it, why not allow admins to choose between open and closed.  Not everyone knows that clicking the image will expand it.

Also, get rid of the overlays in the profile pages - I think they look chunky and horrible.  Aesthetics plays a very important part of first impressions and this method looks like an afterthought.

Other than that everything else is great 😊

Please give us a option to limit what people can make. For example, someone could add 10 topics to their clubs page and multiples of others apps. I really think the admin should be able to say hey, 1 topics is enough. Now the same it appears it's going to be with pages. We have no control and how far someone could take this, unlimited is not the answer here.

Most hosts now-a-days also have inode limits, I can see how this could spin easily without putting some limitations in place. Personally, I'd hate to tell someone you can't create and entire software inside of a single account plus some, especially for free. Limitations is a good thing here.
