Happy 16th Birthday To Us!

This month, we turn sweet sixteen!

We made our own card this year.

I know, it's hard to believe with our youthful looks and energetic personalities, but it's true. Charles and I have known each other longer than I've known my own children and we still make each other laugh on a daily basis.

Over the past 16 years we've seen a lot of trends come and go.

When we started, AOL dial-up was the preferred method of choice (and probably the only method of choice). Compuserve were flying high and I think I'll stop this walk down memory lane before I turn into my own grandfather and start talking about how things were better in my day.

A lot has changed. We've seen the rise of social media and how it disrupted habits. We've seen MP3 players become iPods, and iPods become iPhones and iPhones become iPads (other digital devices are also available).

It's crazy to think that our company pre-dates Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

We're still here because we are always innovating and adapting. The software we're working on right now is vastly different from the one we started out with. And that is how it should be. We listen to our customers and we implement the great ideas.

Of course, we'd not have lasted a year without our customers. We're genuinely thrilled to still be doing a job we love and serving customers who have trusted their community with us.

Thank you all for choosing us and we're looking forward to the next 16 years.

Just checked back on my records and I jumped on board in January 2004 - converted from a hosted UBB.x site to IPB, with a converter I wrote myself in a Lotus Notes (Domino) database using LotusScript. I've even managed to find the database itself and have been marvelling (i.e. horrified) at the code I wrote to perform the conversion - there's even a comment in there stating

"Bloody hell....UBB store the password in the database in plain text. Let's convert it using MD5, just like the new forum does"

We purchased our lifetime license at the time.

I run a lot of different softwares over the years... UBB (1998), vB, UltraBoard, YaBB, IkonBoard, Woltlab, xF and Invision... all of them had come and goes, dramas, Companychanges, etc.... That said, the most of my websites now running IPS

As was pointed out by @GlenP, IkonBoard was also one of @Matt's creations.  If I remember correctly, @Charles was also a part of that.

We hit 15 years on IPS last October but been going 3 or 4 years prior to that on, I believe, Ikonboard.

Same here.  I was using IkonBoard for a couple of years of so, then when I noticed there were no new updates over a long period of time, as well as realizing that PHP seemed to be faster than .cgi(?), I went hunting for another product.  The only one that met my requirements was IPB.  It was a few months to a year or so after that I realized the connection.  Quality speaks volumes, as well as customer support.

Side tracking here - some other companies severely lack in decent customer support.  One time when I received bad support from another company, I made a comment to one of the IPS staff in a chat that they could learn from IPS.  He thought I was saying there was a problem with IPS support and I was quick to point out that IPS support is top notch, it was another company that was lacking in it.  I guess I'm spoiled by expecting caring vs aggressive support.

With all this “look what’s coming in 4.3”, and now a 16th Birthday and all who been with you ‘from the beginning’ and those who are looking at being able to celebrate future birthdays;  How about this:

A Birthday Present to every user with a 50% off the purchase / renewal of Commerce with all its new features, as part of the celebration?

We can all celebrate together!

What about 16% off of new purchases (all apps), and 32% off renewals (16% sale discount, 16% loyalty discount, so 32%).  If it were going to be 50%, I would say it should be on the Forums app, since that's what IPS started with, but with 16% on all, it would be inviting to potential new clients, or even to existing clients who are considering another purchase.

I feel @AndyF could help here?

Thanks @Matt ?

@MMXII As you asked earlier in your reply, the said 'A look back' screenshots still exist, although I do not currently have them hosted anywhere they are merely sat in neatly split zips per each major version. ?
