  1. Hey, we have published the first article of a series about upcoming 4.6 changes. We took the opportunity for some spring cleaning, so we have removed most of the deprecated methods! They were all marked as deprecated for a while, so you should already be aware of these methods, but here’s a full list of the methods and the new approaches to make your life easier, so if you haven’t already, now it’s the best time to review your code and make sure that none of these methods is used. Most of the changes can already be implemented while the 4.5.x lifecycle.

It's bad enough you don't allow the download of apps we purchased when our licence has expired. But, to completely change the way file downloads are handle is a little much. Please don't get me wrong, I love the idea that we can now do it all with ACP, but you shouldn't disable/change the way that a lot of us download files for localhost setups to test our sites before going live. Please, please, please allow the option to download files manually like we've done for so m

    HOMERUN!

All I really got to say is IPB knocked this one out of the park. HOMERUN! I better add also I'm also really impressed with low bug count in betas. The dev team is organized better than ever.. It's taken some years to get everything on the track it is but I feel it was well worth it and well worth the wait. Should I be giving @Lindy some credit here?? If I do will @Matt pull the Lindy factor line on me? 🤣 This is really such a well rounded product now all the way around. Great awesome job IPB!

  4. The +1 button was a great idea but please return or improve the number of reactions here at the IPS Community forum. It's feels to me IMHO almost like we're being stifled by some dark, manipulative branding and marketing PR department or something. Reactions allowing the ability to show you you're saddened, disagree or are confused about something and help provide a balance of opinion, freedom of expression and thought. Thanks for reading.

  5. Paul, the feedback truly is appreciated. With anything, there are inherent risks. You can buy anything and it can go unsupported, warranty denied, or any number of things you hadn't hoped for. The Marketplace is an inherent risk to IPS as well. Anytime there's a fraudulent purchase, a developer disappears and/or there are chargebacks, IPS bears the burden of such - financially and otherwise. When you are dealing with inexpensive resources at a 10% commission, one $15 chargeback it can take dozens of transactions to recoup the loss from that one previous transaction. The Marketplace, from a fin

    So much empty space...

Yes, it’s my assessment that this layout is well-thought-out. (The one I commented, which was from Pages) I work as professional web designer for more than 20 years and I customize these Pages templates all the time—inspecting every little detail, checking the flow of content in many situations and at every CSS breakpoint. Of course if you can’t have an open discussion and need to laugh at people just because they say something you don’t agree with, this discussion ends right here. If all you guys can do is judge a web layout in one desktop view, you know very little of web design and hav

    So much empty space...

I totally agree. The default skin in 4.5 is absolutely terrible. Huge elements, padding, empty space, thin and faded text, low contrast, and more. It's no surprise why more and more people are choosing to use XenForo, Discord, etc., over IPB. I don't know who made the new skin, but it feels like a beginner freelancer from Dribble made it. But why did they need to move the follow button one line down? If the follow button was positioned on the same line as the title, as before, there would be no useless empty space. One more example: It takes up a lot of space, but none o

So in this regard, I would like to state publicity that I am not getting the expected return/attention from TheJackal84, which has not: given me the list of purchasers of the resources in his website. So what it has to do you with you? I'm not able to add a purchase here on IPS so you can keep downloading updates, if you purchased it there. Why I can't? Because I can't simply trust in words from everyone that requests files. I need to make sure you purchase

    We need webp NOW

Why are invisioncommunity devs so blind for webp? It's not like it requires any other extra work, since the compression of webp is already existant by nature. Simply allowing webp by default shouldn't be the biggest deal, or is it? It's already widely accepted by all major browsers, so there's no excuse on that anymore, especially not since you dropped IE support yourselfs. But still, every request and any conversation about webp have either been put down, or ignored. Could we please get an explanation why you're so anti-fast-web? I'm honestly wondering why is that.

  12. This is because there are a lot of opinion based threads here. I don't think "Like" is a good reaction when you want to agree or support what has been said in a thread but currently the only agreeable reaction. Like is a broad (and at least for me) a very default way for people to respond/react to something that they simply think was a good read. In some cases I would like to actually agree with what the member is saying or support it with a +1. To me agreeing versus liking something will give me a better way to show my appreciation to a members post. An example a cute joke in

XRegExp is 135KB when minified as part of root_library.js (that whole bundle is only 383KB, so it's a significant chunk), but it's only used in two places: In ipsautolink/plugin.js, it's just used to evaluate a native JS regex, which I believe is totally unnecessary (use this.urlRegex.test(text) instead!) In ips.search.results.js, where it's just used to replace using a native JS regex (use $(this).text().replace(new RegExp(...), '...') instead, as you do for each subsequent replacement in that chain) (while you're at it, why does that code replace with HTML, HTML escape everything

    We need webp NOW

It is recommended to output webp files in a <picture> tag instead of an <img> tag, which supports specifying multiple versions. That's something we'd have to take into account. Also, ios14 added support apparently: https://css-tricks.com/webp-image-support-coming-to-ios-14/ I found that we have an open internal suggestion discussing this already so I've updated it. Thanks!

    Marketplace

Having the marketplace inside of the application in the ACP is a good idea, but - access to the marketplace is governed by having a current license renewal in place. This means that if a license has expired and the user does not wish to renew at this point in time (for whatever reasons), if their site has a catastrophic failure and they need to reinstall from scratch, the applications they have purchase which need to be reinstalled, what happens to them? Will they be available in the ACP or will they need to renew their license before they can access what they have paid for? I believe t

    So much empty space...

In 4.5 we've tried to keep headers consistent, so that buttons are where you expect them to be, there's space for additional buttons as each page/app might require, and so that each page/app can extend the data shown in the header without the whole thing breaking down. In 4.4, this was a problem - sure, on perfect example pages, the follow button worked well in the top right. But using a different app where more buttons need to be shown, or even just having a long topic title, suddenly it wasn't so pretty and usable. The new header is designed to be flexible and extensible according to require

In such an application one could develop different "banks" for different types of points systems depending on the nature of your website. Examples: "credits" (for purchasing services, Store products, exchanging for cash donations to relevant charities) tokens (for gambling, buying bling for their online personae) hours (if you're like me, you sell hours of tuition and/or consultation) How m

But the entirety and power of the full Invision suite: uploading a cover photo, filling out a profile custom field, writing a status update, making a blog post, RSVPing to a calendar event, getting a post marked as best answer, creating an album, renewing a subscription for the sixth time, winning second in the leaderboard, getting an item promoted. Some bugs that I've found in a couple of minutes of testing: There are a bunch of deprecation warnings for required parameters following optional parameters - from my search with the regex function\s*\w+\s*\([^=)]*=[^)]*,\s*\$[^,)=]*[,)] there are 47 instances of this in the suite. It should be safe to remove all of the offending default parameters, since they can never be utilised. No way to edit the icon (I know it can be done manually, I am talking about AdminCP options...), to way to change the inverval for how long a "recently joined" member is getting a badge, no option to display badges based on usergroups (not just if someone has moderator permissions) etc. Also the "hand icon" for recently joined members has received quite some negative feedback. It is misinterpreted for restrictions being in place instead of a waving hand (what I suppose it should be taken

    4.5 is really good

We did away with our heavily customized forum skin and just went with the default, with our own header and footer added. Then I changed the colors of that skin to make a dark version. It required a few lines of code in custom.css and it's not quite finished, but the results are really good. This is the best our forum has ever looked, and it's also the lowest-maintenance its ever been. The integrated GIFs, little changes like the rounded border around the reactions display, and other subtle improvements have made this update really nice. Express our views and it's taken on board and sometimes changed. We have seen it, sometimes it doesn't change but if we do not speak out, nothing gets 'changed' and sometimes, that can be for the worse. It's nice to see that I am not the only one, not liking the idea to not be able to download the files manually, or have an active licence in order to download files or updates to them.

    Support Needs

Sometimes I feel compelled to speak out with regards to a service, it doesn't happen very often but today I do feel compelled to say something about the support given by Invision. It's First Class! I've noticed, over the years, that some users post quite disparaging words for the support given, but I've never experience this myself and I truly believe that you have to give praise where it's due, just as much as you have to voice concerns when things are not going right. I'd like to say thank you to all of the staff who have dealt with any issues I've raised, but in particular to

    #Hashtags

We have talked about hashtags a lot internally over the years. The core issue is that we're just not sure how useful they are on a forum. They work on Twitter because it's the only way to create a 'channel' of similar discussions. There is no other way to separate out conversations. So adding the tag makes it clear you're talking about that topic. Obviously, with a forum you have categories, forums and topics. Adding a hashtag would be largely superfluous. We have a tagging system for content already, and I would say that 98% of Invision Communities do not use it, and of the 2%, a sma

    Praise to IPS

I am onboard with IPS for long, and here is my positive feedback on the current state of the nation: - I love the strategy of moving from Pure forum to communities, with a tightly integrantes set of apps. This was a crucial move that allowed IPS to escape from the fierce competitivo on a shrinking market. As everybody knows, fóruns are disappearing, yet people are still getting together. This is why i prefer IPS package Over XF ir VB because there is a whole set of tightly packed tools to get my people collaborating. - I love the new theme. "Oh it's too white" "oh só much whit

Firstly, prior to limiting the resets, it was very easy to "license hop" - that is, swap URLs around, obtain support, upgrades, etc., swap them around and repeat, etc. So, while not necessarily the original intended purpose, it does help keep the honest... honest in the same sort of way that a deadbolt keeps the undetermined at bay--obviously, the determined/committed can kick the door in. And even if they adopted granular ACP theme adjustment tools same as Xenforo has, we'd still need to sit back and adjust dozens and dozens of margin, padding, line height and similar parameters to suit all of our individual tastes. And then you have the menu, which in my view should be docked in an object that can be bound to the DOM either on the server or in a CSOM. But, even if Invision did that, we'd still need to position it ourselves, and move it around depending on the app currently in use. So I say, be careful what you wish for as

To me this is the equivalent of an ATM fee when you withdraw money, except in this case from your own bank. For those worrying about fraud or anything else, as long as only one domain is tied to that license it shouldn't change anything. So yeah, this is one thing I don't understand, see it as nothing more than a money grab from IPB, and serves no real benefit to the consumer and serves no benefit to IPB other
