    Mental Health

There will be a lot of talk here about physical health and I am sure @Matt will never miss a chance to post about his runs. I also want to be sure we are all open to talking about mental health too. I am a big proponent in saying that there is no shame or stigma in talking about mental health. I often say that people will loudly talk about a head cold or an infection, but not about mental health. But be it physical or mental: you are sick. It is not your fault. There are also treatments that will help you if you reach out. So chat away if you want to. I have experience in dealing with mental health and I am sure others do too. If you are not comfortable talking about mental health, then I hope just reading what others say can help you on your journey. Safe space and such.

  2. Just wanted to chime in and give a big shout out to @Stuart Silvester. With his help I was able to successfully do a transfer. (Give this man a raise 😄). Also thanks to @Charles. It's customer service like this that a lot of forum software companies are missing these days. Glad to be back and be part of the IPS family once again.

    oooh, new portal!

@Ehren and @Jordan Miller did a great job designing and writing the new site.

    oooh, new portal!

Haha thanks, I've actually been lurking around here for almost 2 years now as a staff member! 🙂 Yeah, this is just for the Invision site for the moment. Version 4.5 included a pretty significant redesign, so I imagine we'll stick with that for a while before doing another revamp. When that time comes, if this new design is still appealing to our visitors, I'm sure we'll use it as inspiration for a new default theme.

  5. Yep, another downloads module issue. It would be really nice to be able to get some way to drag & drop uploaded screenshots and place them in a new order. Right now there appears to be no way to guarantee a particular order to screenshots associated with an upload. I'm sure it seems like a silly thing to want, but people uploading stuff to showcase their work often have a certain order they'd like things in.

  6. It's disturbing how structured some medical discrimination is. I've been trying to get a job again for the last couple of weeks, with 7 replies back. They all respond with some form of "due to behavioral issues associated with Asperger's syndrome, we've denied your application." Sure, I have no idea how to talk to other humans, but does that warrant telling me I can't apply in IT? None of those guys talk to humans. Plus, humans are all afraid of each other anyway. People judge me so often on my behavior, which just so happens to be influenced by a degenerative brain disorder, but that's no excuse, and they don't see what I can bring to the table. I can tell you how a super collider or thrust gravity works, but I can't tell you why someone frowns. If my job was to tell you how those 2 first things worked, I would give ya everything on them, to the best of my ability. Given how much effort I've put into my project here on IPS and classes on Coursera, I would think that'd be a sign that I have the ability to direct majority focus to a task needed. While I try not to take it personally, it still hits getting rejected over and over, simply because I'm different from them. Isn't everybody different? I thought that was evolution, but clearly, some homo sapiens lost that gene pool. ha pun When in doubt, just keep swimming. I've sunk to the bottom before and I never want to again. Sorry, I needed to get this small vent out somewhere that actually has nicer people. I like the previous replies.

  7. This issue has been confirmed by IPS through a support ticket and the good news is they are working on a fix. The workaround is to re-save the content notification setting either by logging in as the user or through the ACP. One you re-save, the email notification is sent after content is approved. I've tested and used this workaround multiple times and has worked for me. For now its an extra few steps but hopefully there will be a patch or fix soon. This is important for some of my sites as it triggers the content poster to come back.

  10. Trust me, no one missed that point. You just seem to brush over the fact that there can be reasons to force a person to register DESPITE them “likely not returning”. So? Because others do it, it must be the right approach? Are you really not seeing the objective logical flaw in that reasoning? And should we point you to a few of the hundreds of thousands of websites that DO require a registration? Do THOSE sites then equally prove that it is the right decision to force a registration? See how this type of reasoning doesn’t work? Good for you. Others have different goals. Yet, you want to paint it as if their approach must be based on “bad decisions”. And you assert questionable reasons like “inflating registration numbers”. Who said that was a reason? No one. So why do you assert it and put it out there? It’s dishonest! You ignore the reasons that people are actually giving you and make up your own reason for them, which you can then dismiss as bad. And you assert that forcing a registration cannot “serve a purpose”. Sorry, but that is either arrogance or ignorance. You assert that your approach and your opinion must be the only valid one – despite the millions of websites and apps requiring registrations who’s owners all apparently do not see what you see. Oh, that is simple: Because you might want the file. It’s just another trade offer. For commercial offers, it’s product traded for money. In the freemium field on the internet, it can also be file or service traded for registration. You decide if it’s worth it to you. If not, just move on. Just because the offer doesn’t work for you, doesn’t mean that the one making the offer has made a mistake. It just means you are not the right “customer” for their offer. If I walk through a mall, there are thousands of offers that don’t work for me. Yet, I don’t approach the store owners telling them they are doing it wrong, because their offers don’t match what the products would be worth it to me. That would be kind of ridiculous. Yet, it’s exactly what you are doing here.

  12. Which means it's practically useless now as it will always be giving false readings - I understand the performance impact issue, but how much of an issue is it if it wasn't an immediately obvious noticeable impact before it was introduced. If it's cached then how often is the cache updated and would be an idea to give admins an option as to how often it gets updated and allow them to decide what impact on performance it has 🙂

    Mental Health

Certainly not ashamed to say I've struggled with my own mental health in the past, for various reasons. I think once you have, it's something you become acutely aware of as long as you don't hide from it. And hiding from it is all too easy to do.

  15. It sounds too much of a specialized function for such a small Marketplace. Contributors can easily announce that on the product page or in the support topic. And if you are subscribed to the support topic, you even already get a notification. Besides, resources getting unsupported is usually a long process, where the lack of orders and support requests signals that creating updates might not be worth it. If an automatic notification would go out, all remaining customers would be alerted and probably ask for the product to remain in active development. So it would completely defeat the purpose of helping to phase out the product. 😉 And I would guess that most resources become unsupported because the developer leaves the platform. It’s unlikely that they will bother to go through the process of setting up EOL notes for all their products in this case. Having the function wouldn't help at all in these cases.

  19. There are many reasons as to why a developer uploads files to his/her website. Drawing traffic might be one of them. You say it as it is a bad thing, but it is not bad at all. The file in question is free and the dev put some time and effort in coding it and if they draw some traffic from it, then that is their reward for their hard work. If you want to download it, then you will have to register at the dev 's site. Otherwise you can either a) request one to be developed for you, or b) learn how to code and code it yourself. I am sorry to say this, but the way you are complaining about this, it is very irritating. You can get something for free, but you do not want to lift a finger. Perhaps the developer can come to your home and install the plugin for you as well while he is at it? 😄

  21. ImageMagick is used by IPS to handle uploads of images, resizing them, compressing them and creating thumbnails. Why not give the community admin the option to use ImageMagick to convert uploaded images by users to WebP? As long as WebP is now accepted by IPS 4.6, I imagine that would be very simple to add this feature to the suite. I am having a great experience converting the images that I post on my community to WebP. Same quality and much less bytes than JPG or PNG or GIF.

  23. Hello, I feel we should revisit the platform’s compliance with GDPR, in light of the latest developments and clarifications issued by the EU. Had some discussions, read a lot about this and it's clear to me that the classic Cookie strip with one button (I accept) simply doesn't cut it anymore and would make the website owner liable for not fully following the current regulations. It's been brought to my attention from the ad network we use, that we should provide a full Consent message to every visitor of our site, and give them the option to choose which cookies, if any, they would want to be used during their visit. There are already many services out there like Cookiebot, Quantcast and OneTrust which can scan one’s site and automate the process by creating this banner. Of course even if they have limited free packages, my main concern is that there are limitations to styling, speed, translation, etc. I feel that such features must be provided from the platform itself, which must integrate the IAB Consent Framework. A valid cookie consent banner has to look like the one Cookiebot provides, offering the ability to choose the type of cookies the visitor wants. If you’d like to see a live example, visit this page. Cookiebot Consent Banner analytic view Two links from the Cookiebot site, which I really feel that they offer a full picture of what is the proper way to have a GDPR Consent banner in your site. GDPR and cookies | GDPR cookie consent | Is my use of cookies compliant? Active consent and the case of Planet49 | CJEU | GDPR & ePR I’d very much like to read your thoughts on this and particularly whether such options are included in the roadmap.

  27. In your communications, you are referring to "Community Support" - if someone comes on to this site looking for support then they are likely to be looking for 'Community Support' as a result, which will end up with them finding this: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/forum/406-community-support/ And has the description: I'd suggest a rename of that forum to remove that confusion, and maybe a rename of the actual support forum to something like "Official Invision Community Help & Support" https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/forum/497-help-support/

    Ideas Application

I have few suggestions for this:) REST API for ideas Fire a webhook when somebody votes on an item and also when an item gets marked as completed. BTW, why are you using the confirmedDelete method inside the markCompleted \IPS\Session::i()->csrfCheck(); \IPS\Request::i()->confirmedDelete(); There's really no need for this AND it's quite confusing when one gets the deletion confirmation message;)

  29. Removing the ability for file authors to upload new versions while the file is pending is an awful solution to a very rare issue. This drastically changes how the application works, and will require websites like mine to completely re-invent the uploading process. I wished we would have been given a heads up... Or at least some mention in the change notes. How can you change something so big and not even include it in the change notes? Something has to change here. You cannot expect websites to have to force users to re-submit the file entirely just to release a new update post-approval.

  32. Ideally you'd not use queries like that in a template, and instead do that in a controller however life isn't always as neat so... {{foreach( \IPS\Db::i()->select(...) ) as $row}} <strong>My name is: {$row['name']}</strong> {{endforeach}} Will do the trick.

  34. It seems that this was a bug in our upgrader. The WYSIWYG widget was indeed limited to be used in the pages app in the past, but we changed this 2018 for IPS 4.3.4 (geez, time flies:D ) , but due to a bug in our upgrader, the restriction was never changed, so all instances which were installed before we made the change were unfortunatly not able to use the widget outside of the pages app, while new installations were, hence the problem with reproducing it. I have fixed this now for an upcoming release 🙂

  35. There is no universal list. It depends on what is legally required in your country. There can also be distinction between business-to-business sales and business-to-consumer sales and there is an additional condition within in the EU about VAT ID numbers. But again, all of that depends on your country.

  38. Adriano's code will disable the app completely, which I guess is also not what you want:D 1. You'll have to tell us how you're changing the navigation:D 2. You *could* use \IPS\Member::loggedIn()->skin to get the members theme id and do something like: {{if \IPS\Member::loggedIn()->skin === 3}} this will be displayed only in theme 3 {{else}} everybody else will see this {{endif}} Something similar could be done in Theme::hookData(). It's really a powerful system, so I would suggest to spend some time to see how exactly it's working:) You could also create a hook on Template::compileTemplate to do whatever you want there, for example to remove the hook before the template is compiled;) BUT I'm afraid, that's just asking for trouble and it's something what you could do for your own board, but I don't think that we would allow such changes in the marketplace!

  39. I don't think I'd advocate for automated changes based on what is being brought up, but I wouldn't be opposed to some additional options on the campaigns. Allow more than one instance of this campaign Automatically cancel this campaign if purchase/subscription is cancelled That first option would have to be implemented very carefully. The reason it behaves the way it does presently, as I recall, is because if you set a campaign to initiate when a user reaches 10 posts or whatever, you definitely wouldn't want the campaign to fire at 10 posts...and 11 posts...and 12 posts...and so on.

  42. Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on this. It's so interesting to me that if your arm hurts, you go see a doctor. If your heart hurts (metaphorically speaking), we often times just bury our emotions versus seeking out help. Our mental health is the #1 most important thing in life - because without it we can't enjoy friends, family, life... anything.

  44. Too many people shun, or ignore, mental health issues - they can by far and wide reaching and can affect anyone at any time of your life. It's like pain, only you know how it hurts but others looking from the outside can't see pain so they think there's nothing wrong with you - mental health issues are in the same ballpark, just because you can't see them doesn't mean they don't exist. Mental health issues can also stem from physical ailments. The inability to perform simple daily tasks because your body refuses to comply can lead to complex mental health issues that may not have a positive outcome and something that has to be lived with for the rest of your life. Life is not so simple as it used to be. There are huge pressures that come to bear on people and some of those people just can't handle that pressure and they break. As with all things, it's easy to break something but not simple to put it back together again. Mental health needs to be taken seriously by everyone so that it can be better diagnosed, handled and treated in the best ways possible to generate a positive outcome. That's a monumental task when the issue is more often shunned than acknowledged. I'm a huge proponent in advocating mental health awareness. Living in a retirement complex I can see the mental health issues all around me, both within the residents and also their families who have to cope and deal with the issues of getting older, and along with that process the decay of their loved ones physical and mental health. Don't be one of those people who shout 'man up' or 'get over it' or 'deal with it' - it's easy to say, not so easy for many to do and they need a little compassion and understanding as to what is at the root of their mental health issues.

  46. And fixed again... Ya know, when IPS let us add fields to IPS application tables, this mod was a dorky simple set-it-and-forget-it thing. Now, ugh. Put simply, I spaced that interacting with records would actually end up re-saving the category as well, and on the front-end, with the background image merged into the Category object that means when those edits/saves occur, it tries to save the Category with refreshed information and hits that background image and tries to save it in the Category table and the field ain't there, etc... I fixed this, ate lunch to give some space, then gave it another run through. I believe I've done all the front-end testing possible. I've hit all the mod actions in record view and category view, plus new records saves, edits, and deletes. Commenting and Reviews on records cleared as well. If this still errors out after this (I don't believe it will but...) I'll need to rip off the band aid and make you guys edit your templates. Instead of $category->pcimage to get at the thing it would be something different. Probably a template plugin like {pci=$category}. Sorry for the hassle. Available when its available (3.0.6)
