  1. @Matt On deletion of members: Could there be an option to define the name to attribute to on that page directly? So we could input for example "Member 3312" (where 3312 would be their memberId). This will keep the discussion still somewhat reader friendly, so it would still be possible to differentiate different accounts as having written in the discussion, for readers reading old content. Alternatively let the Anonymize attribution do a md5 hash on the (memberId+some community specific value that is unlikely to be changed) and grab the first 8 letters or something.

  2. Next time anybody suggests that the Invision Community team doesn't listen, send them to this article. There's so much here that I've seen people bring up over the past year. What an amazing product. You lovely, lovely people.

  3. The last bit about showing multiple users sharing the same device is very important to me as an admin. Very nice addition! If you can take this one step further and create a page that shows ALL devices with multiple users, that would be an extremely useful report. This allows you to more easily catch people creating multiple accounts, especially handy to help catch trolls who are trying to evade a ban. Thank you!

What a strange excuse. It's the problem of the users of these third-party themes. Why we're who use the official theme should suffer because of them?

  15. This updates can help Administrators to make its communities alive and protected from prohibited content: Allow Administrator to change the topicstarter. Options to ban members to change topic title and firts message separately. Setup permissions for members group that way, so the members of "one group" could see each other content, but other groups can't see "one group" content. Like parallel world in the same community. If Reply to this status... in All Activity feed, then updated status goes UP on the feed. Notifications about someone's replied to any Status Updates. Delete Digg and Delicious from Share on. Change for WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, Instagram. Add the setup option for it in the AdminCP. Word Filters for Status Updates replies. Word Filters for About Me in Profile. Display Pinned topics and Recommended posts in All Activity feed. If Added new word to filter, all the filtered content must be updated regarding Action to take. Built-in translator for messages in other languages. Quote Collapse.

  16. I don't like current behaviour of highlighting because it works for every posts, does not matter if this post important or not (i.e. "official staff answer" or "staff member's comment on kittens photo"). I'd prefer to have an option below editor. Posted this also as suggestion in feedback and ideas section. Please support(reaction/comment - any activity) this topic if you need it too.

Sounds great! Do not forget to add it as a filter in Acitivity Stream Some additional ideas: Allow members to "Vote to recommend" and after X votes, the reply can be automatically recommended. I suppose @Kevin Carwile will make it available in the Rules app, but it would be nice to have it built in. The burden of selecting recommended posts shouldn't lie only on the shoulders of the moderators

  19. I've been with you since the days of Ikonboard, so you I love you. However, I'm starting to grow concerned after reading that IPS have made a specific, conscious decision to start restricting features (albeit with the first) to cloud-hosted SAAS customers. It's perhaps akin the to the controversial Marketplace changes. As a multi-license customer, I'm saddened that there is a visible "It's our way, or the highway" style approach that seems to be increasing these days. This statement feels like it could be the start of a paradigm shift, and if so, one that I'm concerned is edging gradually towards a pretty slippery slope. I'm concerned that a moment of realisation will inevitably follow such a shift, where more of the latest, long awaited or most requested features could no longer be available to self-hosted clients. I realise with SAAS you have more or even total overall control of the environment which is good from a support perspective, and it's been stated that if you could have a do-over with today's tech, SAAS would be the way to go from the outset. SAAS certainly has its benefits, to both sides of the provider/customer fence, don't get me wrong, but I still find the cloud-hosted IPS on offer here (which as your main showcase, it should be super slick, speedier than The Flash using a bathroom and instantly responsive), to be more sluggish and generally slower than many self-hosted sites I come across; even though I'm using a 40Mbps fibre connection (thanks rip off, overselling BT, I'm still paying for that 80Mbps Infinity 2 connection, you know... yeah, that's right, you hear me!). And then there's this risk, it does happen... On the way to the point where more features are restricted, how many restricted features will it take before self-hosted clients begin to feel like they are getting the light version or feel less valued. The software is expensive (aside from a couple of the recurring add-ons which a fairly priced), self-hosted clients money is of course just as good as that of SAAS clients, and after all, wasn't it the self-hosted user base that helped get IPS to where it is today? So I would ask IPS to at least consider this approach and also, if you propose removing lesser used large features from products (like Commerce) that's fine but please don't forget to reduce the price accordingly. Thanks for listening.

  20. @Mr 13 We've actually optimized all images in the suite too; the default coverphoto image is now ~280KB. Also, cover photos across the suite are indeed lazy loaded too. @Joel R Yes there's a background task that will clean up the existing letter photos. For developers, I wanted to add that our lazy loading utility is very flexible, so you can actually use it to lazy load whatever you want, and pretty finely control what happens (with preload, load and post-load callbacks). We hook into IntersectionObserver which is a new(ish) API in browsers that make it super efficient to check when an element comes into view. Of course, our regular content controllers already handle lazy loading images and videos in UGC for you, but if your apps have other areas where it'd be useful, you can do that quite easily 🙂

Sometimes development isn't about creating something nobody has ever seen, but rather improving on existing concepts and providing a robust, built-in solution.

  23. If we really want to modernize things, we should have a "Night Mode" switch in the corner. (I think there's a theme in the marketplace like this, actually) Looks good! Appreciate the attention to detail with things like this. 👍

  25. Yes, the badges you see here will be included by default in Invision Community 4.6. There are many pages in the ACP. On the front end, viewing a member's profile shows you which badges they've earned. I'm not sure if we are going to do a "here's all the possible badges you can earn". I'm not sure of its value. We don't want to turn the community into a game. It's designed to reward good contributions and not encourage pure engagement for engagements sake to win points and badges. Yes, it does work across all apps. The profile link is also in this screenshot 😄 Not yet, but we already have this down as a future expansion idea. You can rebuild points and ranks at any time including post upgrade. It's what we did here. We had 21 million data points to look at, and it took about 5-6 hours. Reputation and points are still separate. One thing to keep in mind is that we don't want to turn a community into a game. An early rule I put in place was that we were not going to show point logic and show people how to specifically earn points, and which actions earned the most points because that will start to erode the purpose and people may decide, if you said that you earn 5 points for a post and 10 points for a gallery image, to reduce posting and start uploading random pictures just to earn points and rank up. We do not want this. The achievements system is meant to be a reward for great contributions, and not the purpose of the community. To this end, we will not be showing how you can earn points, and the rank thresholds. We do have on our list a way to give you a weekly update about how many points you earned, so you may get an email with "You earned 205 points last week, that's 20 more than the week before" for example to keep you updated on your progress. You can opt in to notifications to get a push notification / inline notification / email when you rank up or earn a new badge. You are seeing the entire system from the perspective of a user. There is a "recognise" system that allows you to manually award points and/or badges for content. Yes you can manually give points and/or badges. Yes, you can add a "location" "and" clause to specify just forums, or whatever app and set up points per thing differently.

  27. We (those who make/update translations) need a tool that can tell us which new language bits was added between versions so we can update our translations easily and faster. The UNTRANSLATED filter isn't practical in this case because there are hundred of language bits that I (and a lot of people here) didn't translate (like countries, emoticons, etc) and they are there so it's a "false" positive in this case.

  28. This all looks amazing and so much neater, but there is one thing that really bugs me a lot - it's probably the designer in me - is the inconsistency of the side bar top alignment; see below: The gap between the top of the sidebar and the topic header. Yet here it is aligned perfectly: I presume there is a reason for this, or is it an oversight? I don't mean to be picky as you've done a fantastic job on the update, but this one little niggle is a bug for me lol

  29. Just to note, we decided to go ahead and support lazy loading for external embeds like YouTube too for 4.4. Most embeds (Facebook, Twitter etc.) already lazy loaded because they routed through a local URL, but external embeds will also lazy load now. You're welcome, @Mr 13 🙂

  31. We should be able to exclude groups or users. The founder of a forum, for example, will probably have more reputation than another admin and maybe he doesn't want to appear in the leaderboard. One example here on IPS is the IPS NEWS account! There's no sense in display it there: https://invisionpower.com/topmembers/

  32. I like this, but to take it a step further....I would like to see an option to return members to lower groups if they don't maintain a certain level of activity. example.. In order to remain in "Group X" you must have 25 posts over the last 12 month, otherwise you go back to "Group Y" This would keep up forum activity, rather than just having a member do a one time burst of creating topics and replies.

  37. Earning points is cool, but the only thing a member can earn is "Badges"? Members Shop is the perfect gamification plugin, because it offers 'abilities' to the members, ways to spend their points. -Pin a Topic (For set amount of days) -Change Member Title -"Purchase" an item in the Downloads section with points - So much more. In my Downloads, I have made custom desktop and mobile wallpapers that can be purchased with points. I also offer custom made profile photos, cover photos and signature banners. I plan on offering more soon. This has been working out great on my forum. People love earning enough points to collect them all. Thank god that @Adriano Faria has taken over Members Shop. Hopefully it will continue to grow. If there was a way to use the Points earned from the IPS Achievements, but then use them with the features Members Shop has to offer, this would be a great method of utilizing both systems.

  40. I'm genuinely kind of confused as to why IPS is posting such an early announcement of 4.4. While we're all excited for the newest version (insert more gifs here), this really is premature: 1. You can't actually download unless you specifically request beta. 2. You probably don't want to download since it's beta. 3. Did I mention it's still in beta yet? 5. And not even late stage beta. This is literally beta 1 with potential breaks to global template. 4. But whatever. Party on. This is like the pre-party before the preview party before the launch party, and by the time we actually get to download 4.4 we will all be so drunk and hungover from the partying that we really won't care what version we're actually using on our live sites.
    9 points
  41. Makes sense - we can take a look at that before 4.4 is released. Yes (although realistically if you are using Sparkpost, you may be able to glean more advanced analytics through their control panel).

  44. Is there really any reason people still need to be shown the file name prominently with extension and everything? It's really the only part of the lightbox I dislike. Mostly due to the fact people tend not to cleanly name photos in the galleries I visit, so it's just a long string of stuff (usually generated off facebook or some other tool which seemingly auto generates a name). I don't see a problem in showing it somewhere, but it just gets so much (and in my humble but totally subjective opinion, over weighted) prominence in that top left position. From a UX/UI perspective, I actually don't think file names have much relevance at all now that you've got drag and drop working for image ordering - there is very little (if any) additional info conveyed by the file name. I'd prefer (speaking as a consumer of galleries) that the caption stay blank unless a user completes it vs filling it with the filename.
