  1. Hello, I was asked to post this in the feedback section in response to my support ticket... Please could you update the Redis configuration settings in Advanced Configuration, to include a USERNAME field for compatibility with the latest stable release of Redis (currently v6.2.5). https://redis.io/download IPS needs to be able to pass the username as part of the configuration, whereas previous it was just an optional password (due to changes that came about with the improved security and ACL feature). https://redis.io/topics/acl Many thanks.

  2. I would not recommend enabling lazy loading for all the images. It makes the forum way slower in my experience.

  3. Discovered one bug. I just submitted a new version. 🙂 Not right now, sorry. But it's on mine radar. 😉

  4. Getting school flashbacks where you have to wait to move on because the stupid kids still don't get 1 + 1. Fallback like @13. mentioned please. Your product's main feature should be prioritzed above 2 bad browsers that form a minority. Altough yes, safari is the 2nd most used browser, it's still only 18% of the world market (and declining). So a fallback for these should do until it can be removed eventualy. https://gs.statcounter.com/ It's not just a simple scrolling issue but an overall performance killer.

  5. This is what scrolling topics with images in IPB looks like: (Tested with 1gbit/s internet connection <10ms latency) Why is this bad? Text + Images + Scrolling = Forum And this affects 3/3 of your product. (quickmath 😛) What i'm trying to say is that, new features are cool, we love them. But don't forget your roots, they need some love too. Reason for the scrolling/loading issues: IPB preloads the spacer.png file instead of the actual image, then it goes for the image itself. This blocks all content from being rendered, because that's how browsers handle it, which results in a truly awful scrolling experience. It's normal for community members to sometimes come up with a great piece of topic or post, which consists of many images to make it look nice and clean. So it's not uncommon, i see this problem on my board all the time. Todays browsers all feature native lazy loading. Spacers' death shall be imminent.

  6. In \applications\core\api\hello.php you have this code: public function GETindex() { return new \IPS\Api\Response( 200, array( 'communityName' => \IPS\Settings::i()->board_name, 'communityUrl' => \IPS\Settings::i()->base_url, 'ipsApplications' => \IPS\Application::load('core')->version, 'ipsApplications' => array_filter( array_keys( \IPS\Application::applications() ), function( $k ) { return \in_array( $k, \IPS\IPS::$ipsApps ); } ) ) ); } The version line used to have the ipsVersion key, looks like it was overwritten by mistake with ipsApplications: 'ipsVersion' => \IPS\Application::load('core')->version

  7. Yes, this is fixed in the latest release.

    Upgrade to 4.6.5.1

Just make sure all the files from /applications/forums/data/ are up to date on your server.

  9. New version pending approval: * I can't reproduce it, but I think I know why by what is was caused. Let me know if it won't be fixed - send me PM with access details. I'll check it directly on your board.

    Nofication Key Issue/bug?

When updating an application, have been having issues with Notifications being displayed while in development mode. I would get this error while trying to view Notifications from the "View All Notifications" in the frontend of the forum. And the spinning wheel of death: If there is a saved Notification within the 'core_notifications' database with a notification_key in the table which does not have a notification_parse function, you will get the above error. This only happens when in developer mode.

  11. It would be better to use the native method everywhere and fallback to the JS-based method only when needed, so the majority of users of modern browsers won't experience problems just because of a minority of technically backward Apple browsers. It's very easy because native lazy loading works perfectly fine when used with JS-based method at the same time.

  12. We added it to profile photos. We can't completely replace the Javascript solution yet, Safari & iOS do not support the native method. It is on our radar though and we're keeping an eye on support.

  13. I haven't tested it yet and until I've fully wrapped up the rest of the IPB 4.6 updates, I don't want to mess around with my test board. Once done, I'll upgrade to PHP 8. But if you do have a test board with PHP 8 and have any bugs to report, I can patch any issues.

  14. Thanks! I just tried it on a 4.6.3 site and switching to IP 127.0.0.1, my Port No. and no password works on that too.

    Redis 6 compatibility

Yes it will. I am using latest version of Redis 6.2.5, and it works jus fine using IP address and port.

  16. IPS are looking at compatibility. It looks like a workaround by switching back to using a port and IP address instead of my usual Unix Socket. IPS 4.5.4.2 still reports caching isn't working but it seems to be according to the increasing keys. Perhaps the red banner goes away after a while.

Hey @breatheheavy! The 4.6 compatible version is currently just pending review/approval by IPS, it should be officially available sometime soon!

!!! This is great news. My anxiety is kicking in anyway 😆 . Perhaps @kRSB can take a look and possibly update the file page to reflect that it's compatible with 4.6? 🙏

  19. Thank you, I have created an internal bug report for this.

  20. Unfortunately this is a side-effect of utilizing just about any cloud based service. Your best bet is to submit a ticket providing the dataset you need imported, and see if they can perform a manual import on their end for you, assuming you are using IPS Cloud service for your website. Working around the cloud API rate limiting is likely not going to be possible from the end user side. If any temporary allowances are possible it would surely need to be requested via a ticket. Good luck, this one sounds like a headache.

Show a legend of your groups in the Who's Online and Recently Browsing widgets, sorted in the order you specify and linked to the search system. Handy so that people know what those group prefixes and suffixes mean. You choose which groups appear in the legend, and the order they will appear in, with the plugin settings in the ACP. Group links will carry any group formatting (colors, etc.) you may have set. Clicking the entries in the legend takes users to a list of all members with that group designation. Version 6 is for Invision Community 4.5 and above. Tweaks the &q appendage slightly - this is tested but environments vary, give a yell if there are problems. Version 5 is for IPS 4.4.5 and above. Untested on earlier versions. Version 5 addresses changes within the IPS search subsystem that now REQUIRES a query parameter to be passed through. GNI urls now append a "&q= " - and yes, the space after equals sign is intentional and necessary. If you edit the plugin template files, do keep this in mind.

  22. The ignore function is an extremely essential part of running community services such as Invision. However, I feel as if one of the most overlooked features is a fully functional Ignore and/or Block system. While we do have the current iteration of the Ignore function, it is severely lacking in some departments. The image below is (while themed) on a clean install: This install has all of the Invision applications enabled (Forums, Blogs, Pages, Commerce, Downloads, Gallery). The above only references Posts (which many assume, and correctly, this refers to the Forums), Messages, and Mentions. So how can this be improved? There's a number of ways, and a few other items I'd like to add. 1. Add most community applications to the Ignore list. This would mean adding Downloads, Blogs, and Gallery items (very unlikely that the need to Ignore admin generated Commerce content would arise) to this list. If I want to Ignore someone's content, generally I want to ignore all of it, not just some. 2. Extend the functionality of Ignore into a full on Block (perhaps as a user option). Most major community/social media platforms do this. Think Twitter, Facebook, etc., where when you Block a user, they cannot access your content (including your profile) either. 3. Add admin options to force users to ignore each other. Currently this requires logging in as the user and adding to their ignore list. At least make this accessible in the admin panel, and have options to disallow the user(s) to un-ignore/unblock each other. Numbers 2 and 3 here are major reasons why I moved one community off of Invision and onto a competitor and repurposed the license for another project that doesn't need this functionality yet (yet being the key term, of course). The question of "why these changes, specifically" arose in a conversation with my mod team for the community we moved away. Our main answer was: this lowers the amount of moderation work, and allows us to not need to use posting moderation and/or account suspension between users tossing barbs back and forth. We weren't a large community by any means (about 18,000 registered users), but even so these features were so asked for by the moderation team and users that it caused us to shift platforms. Hopefully something will be done with this feature set in the future. Cheers, Alex

  24. Thing is my sender reputation with Sendgrid was a solid 98%-99% and I still had issues. May just be bad luck on my part, but two weeks with constant support tickets coming in about Hotmail clients not getting validation e-mails made me cut ties only two months after signing up with them. Amazon SES is definitely cost effective and their deliverability rates may be better, I don't know. It's really hard to find good data on raw delivery rates between these services outside of what's anecdotal. GSuite I think is amazing for standard notification e-mails for medium to large forums but definitely is not a solution if you need to batch out 10k+ e-mails in a single day. That said, I do 100% support adding native Amazon SES integration into IPS, as it is a very reputable solution especially for corporate/enterprise clients and does deserve its own spot beside Sendgrid.
