  3. Hi, We've been badly hit by the Google December 2020 Core Update: our traffic comming from Google dropped 20% starting December 4th, 2020. Investigating this further, I came across the Core Web Vitals, available at the Google Search Console, and our numbers are really bad there, especially for mobile. See screenshot below. I am wondering if you guys are seeing the same (meaning this is something to be improved in the IPS software itself) or if this is caused by our custom modifications such as advertisement/banners. Thanks in advance for any tips on this issue.

Application which allows you to apply random 'annoyances' to your annoying users. Options are: Show a blank page Show site as offline Show page not found error Delay page loading Redirect to another url Each of the above has a % chance of happening, configured by you - and you can configure different behaviour on a per-user basis.

  5. Hi, This will be updated to ips 4.5.x in a couple days hopefully 🙂

  6. Yes, I've just pushed a new version which is 4.5 compatible, pending IPS MP admin approval.

  7. I've been experimenting with some options that should help improve the behavior in an upcoming release. 👍

  8. Glad its working out! Can you share any metrics that show off these results, in terms of an organic search traffic boost? I'm just not that convinced you need a plugin when looking through analytics on all my sites, when google does a real good job of not indexing thin content. However, I'm always looking for ways to increase organic search traffic if it make sense. Trick is...How do you fix thin content and promote the posting of rich content. I do make sure I'm using a block under my topics for similar tagged content and I also use a second plugin to display a similar content block. This all ads relevant content to the page and internal linking to other topics.

  11. FCP - the problem is fixed with Critical CSS. For LCP, you can try preloading img, especially those img that slow down the mobile. Use for each img in your head for mobile devices <link rel="preload" media="(max-width: 979px)" href="url to your img" as="image"> desktop only <link rel="preload" media="(min-width: 980px)" href="url to your img" as="image"> for everyone <link rel="preload" media="all" href="url to your img" as="image"> Usually for mobile are a few img, incl. logo, for desktop you need to experimentally determine - whether all the img visible when loading the site, or only the img with the highest weight ... Experiments give birth to the truth ...

  12. @xtechSo far, I am not seeing any improvement, as the main issue, which is the LCP, is still present. As mentioned in my original post, Google made a major change in its algorithm in the beginning of december, which is really hurting us. We used to get around 140k users per day from Google, since then we are getting around 115k. This is hurting our revenue tremendously. I am still working on this, though. Every couple of days I fix something here or there. I am very persistent and I will get to the bottom of this and will eventually fix this LCP issue! 🙂 In any case, this has been a good opportunity to fix a lot of other things that could be improved anyway! 🙂

  13. They said that there is a SEO audit coming soon. They will probably take everything into consideration.
    1 point
  14. @Gabriel Torres are you already seeing Google Analytics benefits of these improvements? I mean, how are the several optimizations you are making impacting your search engine traffic? I believe that IPS should implement these improvements built in. Having successful communities is of their best interest, and SEO effectiveness should be a top priority.

  15. You should see a list of your promoted items when you click on 'Manage Promoted Items' from your user menu; You should see boxes with a cross and pencil - clicking the cross deletes the promoted item from the list (not the actual item itself) and the pencil allows you to edit. As @AlexWebsites states check your permissions if you're not seeing anything in your user menu or the list as shown above 🙂

  19. @Gabriel TorresI turned on RocketLoader a month ago. There is a readable difference in loading speed, I recommend it to anyone! So far no problems. Additionally, I turned on HTML compression to get rid of those ulgy spaces from the document source. A month of testing, and so far everything is fine. 👍 Unfortunately, it is impossible to avoid all errors and warnings in PageSpeed Insights. Everyone knows that on a simple HTML page anyone can get 100 score, but IPS is a complex software and there is no chance to get 100 🙂 I see that you squeezed a lot anyway, good job 👍

  21. If you enable the record image field, you can edit the permissions for the field on the Fields page for that database, including which groups are allowed to upload an image when submitting a new record.

  23. @Morgin Got it. As mentioned above, I disabled it. Thank you very much for coming back and detailing the issue! 🙂

  24. Yeah sorry! Horrible reply on my part. @Ryan Ashbrook covered one of the big issues I had which was that ckeditor would randomly fail to load or would load improperly so certain functions were disabled. I don’t know how to characterize it other than very weird and annoying bugs that didn’t happen every time so were hard to replicate, but always related to JavaScript. There were also times the entire site would just stop loading about halfway through initial paint so you were left with broken stylesheets etc. As soon as rocket loader was disabled, all of that went away
    1 point
  25. Thanks @Ryan Ashbrook for detailing what @Morgin mentioned. I will disable it "just in case".
    1 point
  26. It can break the editor and cause it to not load in some cases. I'm not sure of the configuration options for Rocket Loader, so it may not be an issue for you. Every instance I've seen, disabling it resolved the issue.

  27. Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback and I'm sorry for your disappointing support experience. I've taken the liberty to review your ticket history as well as your community itself. I counted almost 50 third party plugins, 15 third party applications for a total of over 200 "hook" points. That is, by most definitions, a fairly significant amount of modifications. There is nothing inherently wrong with that and we of course welcome and encourage you to personalize and tailor the software to meet your needs, however, it does limit the amount of support we are able to provide. I often use an automotive analogy... there are some vehicle owners that make a significant amount of customizations to their vehicle. Some, such as cosmetic changes (tinted windows, spoilers, etc.) have no real impact on the integrity or reliability of the vehicle and there are no warranty issues with the dealer. If, however, you add an aftermarket device designed to change the behavioral parameters of the vehicle (eg. an ECM 'tuner', an electronic device that plugs into the ODB port, an aftermarket head unit, etc.) - it is not a realistic expectation for the manufacturer (and dealer) to warrant and support the vehicle unless the concern is directly related to a "stock" defect or root cause. In the case of your current support request (RSS feeds and image dimensions) - I've looked at the origin feed and the height/width attributes are indeed being sent in the feed itself. Invision Community simply imports what is provided in the feed. You would, as noted in the request, unfortunately need to work with the feed author to remove the hardcoded attributes in the feed. I wish I had better news for you and I understand how difficult and frustrating it is sitting between developers/manufacturers and third parties/aftermarket, as a consumer. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and I hope your experience improves moving forward.

  28. @Adlago Many thanks for this tip, done that. I will investigate a little bit further every day, I made saveral small adjustments and fixes during this weekend. Let's wait and see how the metrics react to them. I was just wondering why adding the font awesome preload at the end of the page and not at the start... https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Preloading_content
    1 point
  29. You will have some improvement in site loading speed if you use a preload font. Font awesome loads a file size of 75 kb and this creates a certain delay. Try and paste the code below, into your global template, after close the footer tag (</footer>) <link rel="preload" href="/applications/core/interface/font/fontawesome-webfont.woff2?v=4.7.0" as="font" type="font/woff2" crossorigin="anonymous">

  30. It seems these FCP/LCP issues are being caused by the advertisement banners we have on our website. I made a few changes, but will continue investigating this further in the coming days. Thanks.

  31. Fixed all that I could. There are still errors caused by: (1) Cloudflare's Rocket Loader (A script element with a src attribute must not have a type attribute whose value is anything other than the empty string, a JavaScript MIME type, or module). I am not sure if there is anything we can do about those. (2) Group Name Indicator plugin, which the developer has just fixed for us and we are waiting for approval at the marketplace. I will take a closer look at the FCP/LCP metrics tomorrow. Pointers are welcome. Thank you for your help! 🙂
    1 point
  32. No, that has nothing to do with it. The main delay in your site is long time FCP Your CLS is negligibly small.

Excellent plugin Great for community users, and great for SEO ! Well done !
    1 point
Very cool and well done plugin brings back the feature I had on my vBulletin board by default. Easy installation in 10 seconds. The only time consuming part is adding the exclusion words. Two suggestions to improve the product. "Block Title" should be added into the IPS phrase system. In the "Neglect Words" part it should be possible to add wildcards because in my language there are hell lot of variations in wording. For example: zusätzlich, zusätzliche, zusätzlichen, zusätzliches, so zusätz* would be cool. Thanks for your great work.
    1 point
This is a great plugin. I'm using it in conjunction with similar topics based on tags as two separate blocks. The topics that don't have tags never get a default IPS similar topics block so this fixes that.
