A feature in the admin cp somewhere that lists all active widget blocks giving each a drop-down forums selector to check off which sub-forums the block would be visible on, would be very convenient. It would allow for completely custom block and page layouts per sub-forum, increasing the software's layout versatility substantially with a relatively small addition.2 points

Items without containers don't support some features
Paul E. reacted to Colonel_mortis for a topic
This was also brought up in the following topic, but there was no answer from IPS there and I do believe it is solvable: In almost all places where Item::$containerNodeClass is used, there is an isset test before accessing it and graceful fallback when it's not present. However, that check is missing in a few places that affect following and tagging. For followable: \IPS\core\Followed\Table:99 - this join should actually be within the preceding if statement (since I believe it only makes sense when permissions are used) core/front/table/tables/rows.phtml:104 - the if sho1 point -

Anyone else scolded for using Plugins, Themes, etc?
Adriano Faria reacted to Vegan Gaymer for a topic
I love Invision and their support is top-notch and I have been with them for years, but almost every time there is an issue, I am scolded and sometimes shamed for using plugins, applications, and themes. Almost always. There is rarely a reply of support that doesn't include a comment that is basically, "well, what did you expect since you are using plugins, applications, themes?" And often the support takes longer because the issue is immediately dismissed as a third-party issue. The irony is that in almost every case, it turns out it was not an issue with an application, plugin, or theme. I t1 point -
I’m a Luddite...62 years old and retired from a career in Commercial Art; specifically graphic design. No industry went digital as fast and as completely as the graphic design field. We went from building mechanicals on drafting tables to using computers and Software overnight, starting in the mid 80’s. I developed a severe case of Upgrade PTSD. Back then every upgrade or update of OS, and design software, was wrought with issues. Files wouldn’t open, fonts wouldn’t work, it was always a cluster, and work flow was impacted. Anyone else scolded for using Plugins, Themes, etc?
Dean_ reacted to Adriano Faria for a topic
The problem here seems to be user using a 4.3 plugin version on 4.5 board. I don’t see where this can be dev’s fault. He probably updated from 4.3 to 4.5 and broke it. But the upgrade to 4.5 should disable 3rd-party resources so I’m not sure that’s the case.1 point -
In the future I believe all you have to do is rename the application folder. So in this case applications > nexus to like nomorenexus That normally fixes it. Or move it to a different folder.1 point

Anyone else scolded for using Plugins, Themes, etc?
Vegan Gaymer reacted to Morrigan for a topic
Don't remove them. The plugins and apps that I personally use are what make my community viable for the community I want to build I don't think I've ever been discouraged from any of the apps or plugins that I use. At least never from IPS themselves but I can see how it can be daunting to get the canned answer (I have gotten it a few times myself even though I've described that I already ran through those troubleshooting steps too). If I didn't have, say my character manager, I'd move to a different software that could accommodate what that app can do.1 point -
I believe you can do this via the "Download member list thing: Change things to "expired" and cancelled active I think the "Total Spent" there at the bottom should work.1 point

->primary_id_field would be right, but you need to make sure the variable is correct. If you are in a different template inside a loop it could be $row for instance instead.1 point

disable grid view for certain categories
Natea reacted to OptimusBain for a topic
It would be great to have a new functionality that would allow us to disable the Grid View on certain forum categories. When the grid view is selected as default, every forum category will be in grid view, it just can't be disabled for specific forum categories. And that would be great. The grid view works great for many forums, but there are sometimes where certain forum categories look better, more accessible and user-friendly in normal view. Could this function be created? I found a plugin that enables the Grid View on certain categories when the forum is set in traditional mode.1 point -

Make sure within your Twitter developer account that everything is live and the account is live. I recently redone my Twitter following the guide on here and it worked without a hitch. In AdminCP under registration that the Twitter login is enabled.1 point

How to change the little "NEW" marker next to topic title
RocketStang reacted to AndreasW2000 for a topic
Oh nice! Thanks a bunch!1 point -
You would need to contact IPS Support and ask them to remove or to show you how to "uninstall" the NEXUS from your website so it will give you to click on continue on Upgrade Page. IMAO I would not buy the nexus if I do not really use it. Hope that FlashFXP helped you with something 🙂1 point

I completely forgot to add in my reply about purchasing Nexus as it’s named changed a few years back. So that would’ve helped you quicker. Sorry about that. It was also the weekend so replies from IPS are slower but expect a quicker reply now that it’s Monday. Hope you get it sorted out!1 point

Grid View and Forum Descriptions
OptimusBain reacted to KT Walrus for a topic
I'm creating a site that will only use Grid View for browsing topics. The traditional Forum View will not be available. Because Grid View does not show forum descriptions, the user is left to figure out what kind of topics are contained in each forum listed in the sidebar. I suggest you add some place in the UX to show the forum descriptions in Grid View. Maybe the sidebar should contain an info button by each forum listed. Or, maybe just a hover popup over the forum link? Or, an info button displayed by each topic in the list where it says "in forum-name"? There has to be a goo1 point -

Yes this is possible if I read it all correctly. When making your category you have the option of making it a forum instead, removing the need for the category. This way you’d have loads of separate forums.1 point -

And really not needed. Instead of offering such a thing. I’d rather more effort put into the app instead of people pleasing with freebies. You have an audience for your apps, there is demand. All I ask is that you take on suggestions, and keep making the app and supply updates. 4.5 looks to be a difficult for developers, so I’m sure we’re all happy to wait. Just keep us updated is all. Because some of our sites depend on certain apps, which should really never be the case, but apps such as this bring a lot to ones forum. So, thank you for keeping it updated.1 point

Application done. Out of the gate it will be just forums, but blogs and gallery will be close behind after this breathes a bit out in the open - just want to make sure everything settles in for everyone before adding the rest. On installation, the new app will detect if you have the plugin installed, hump over your existing data, and then delete the plugin, so do not remove the plugin prior to installation of this new thing. You'll just wipe your existing data. There are built in cull options now if you need to wipe a single topic's viewers out, or cull the whole thing and start ov1 point -
I do receive the newsletters (I avoid corporate social media as far as possible). Nothing I had read thus far indicated such dramatic under the hood changes to me. Bottom line for me right now is that I am stuck here on 4.5 and having to use a default theme that I personally think looks awful and I can't find an easy way to change it. Even my premium theme doesn't let me easily make the changes I was used to making. Just really disappointed in the design aesthetic and the fact that it's so hard to change now. I suggest that in future it might be advisable to split your commun1 point

I can take a screenshot of forum 4.4 where everything was fine. Lol! Why did they move the follow button to a separate line, which takes up a HUGE white space??? Previously, this button was in the title bar and did not take up extra space. Read "Web Design For Dummies" before commenting here.1 point
