Invision Community has certainly changed a lot over the years as we've moved through major updates and large user interface changes. While large scale changes offer a dramatic difference, it is sometimes the smaller changes that bring the most satisfaction when using your community daily. This blog entry rounds up some of the UI improvements Invision Community 4.5 brings. Content View Behavior What do you want to happen when you click a topic link? Are you taken to the first comment, the last comment or the first comment you've not read? If you speak to 100 people, I'm pretty sure you'll get a good spread of votes for each. Invision Community has always offered subtle ways to get right to the first unread comment. Our infamous dot or star allows you to do this, but it is so subtle almost no one knows this. Invision Community 4.5 now allows each member to choose (with the AdminCP offering a default). Now everyone wins! Who Reacted? Invision Community has had reactions for a long while now. Although finding out who exactly reacted without clicking the counts has proved irksome. We've fixed that in Invision Community so simply mousing over the reaction icon reveals who reacted. Sign In Anonymously For as long as I can remember, Invision Community has offered an option to sign in anonymously via a checkbox on the login form. However, as we've added faster ways to log in via Facebook, Twitter, Google and more it's become less straight forward to ensure your anonymity. Invision Community 4.5 removes this login preference and moves it to your members' settings. Now your members can resume hiding as they move around your community across multiple logins. Resize Before Uploading One of the most popular requests we've had in recent times is to resize large images before uploading. It's quite likely that your giant full resolution image will be denied when attempting to upload, and it's a bit of a faff to resize it in a photo editor. Invision Community leverages the uploader's ability to resize before uploading, which makes it a much happier experience. Switch Off Automatic Language Detection Invision Community attempts to map your browser's user-agent to a specific language pack. When you visit a site, your browser lets the site know which language our browser is set to (often dictated by your operating system) and we use that to show you the correct language if the community you're visiting has multiple languages installed. However, it might be that you don't want this to happen because although your computer's OS is set to a specific language, it doesn't always follow that is the one you wish to use on a website. Invision Community 4.5 allows this automatic detection to be switched off. Quote Collapse We will finish with another popular feature request; the ability for long quotes to be collapsed, reducing the amount of scrolling one has to do. Quite simply, Invision Community collapses long quotes with an option to expand them to read the entire quote. Thank you to all our customers who have taken the time to leave feedback. As you can see, we do listen and action your feedback. Which change are you looking forward to the most? Let us know below!

A Pages listing with tweaked ratings functionality could also work. I’ll have a look at it.

Hi, I noticed that it's only possible to translate the widget of upcoming events in the ACP as opposed to simply entering a new widget title when you drag it into the page and set various settings for it. Please add that since you can choose from various calandars you created and may want to be more specific. Like Upcoming games, other widget Upcoming movies and so on instead of the general Upcoming Events.

It wasn't planned, but yea, I can probably next week. Right now this whole app includes dozens of changes for the topic page, will need to add some settings to make them optional πŸ™‚

Does anyone know of a plugin that will provide this sort of functionality? https://www.ranker.com/list/the-best-actors-working-today/bustermcdermott Members can vote for things in a list I provide, and their votes move that item up or down the list. I'm thinking specifically of favourite books, if that matters. I'd have an image of the cover and a synopsis.

Could you please remove the uploaded file stored in IPS\File::get( 'core_Theme', $this->member->profileBackgroundImage ) when the plugin is uninstalled. It's a grey area and we really dislike that people store their custom uploads to the core_Theme storage handler, but it's fine as long as everything is removed while the plugin uninstallation. Please keep also in mind that the paths won't be changed automatically when the storage handler is changed.

Though I know there is a workaround by creating a custom block, editing its template and placing it where you need it. That's what I did on 4.4 but still it will be good having it made even more simple πŸ™‚

I reckon something like this would definitely encourage people to visit and partake. The current question and answer forums operate similarly and could be converted for this and expanded upon. Imagine the number of people who would be eager to join up just to vote for their favourites in this manner; it could be a game a changer - at least for me it would be lol.

Hey Ernest! Thanks for the feedback! Adding support for multiple prefixes is unfortunately not available yet and will be a bit tricky to implement, but it's something I'll add as a feature suggestion and look into. Prefixes are a core IPS feature and IPS expects these to just be a single string, not multiple items, so re-engineering the platform to work with multiple prefixes will require some craftyness, but I'll look into ways to potentially make this work. This is something I can't promise a timeframe on unfortunately, however. I like your suggestions regarding updates to the basic editor though! I'll add this to the feature list for 1.6.0 and you should see it in the next release.

@Makoto I saw someone asked about the ability to set multiple prefixes per thread. Is this possible yet? If not is it something you are considering adding? I’m building a sports related forum and it would be nice to have the ability to have multiple prefixes such as example Alabama and Recruiting. In this example it is talking about a team (Alabama) and what it’s about (Recruiting) I would really love to see this added if it’s not already included. Thank you for your time and for such an amazing addon. Also something else that just hit me is the ability to change the font color since some of the schools my site will cover have multiple colors so it would be nice to have the background as their primary color and the text to me their secondary color. Maybe even add FA icons in the basic editor.

Quote Collapse We will finish with another popular feature request; the ability for long quotes to be collapsed, reducing the amount of scrolling one has to do. Quite simply, Invision Community collapses long quotes with an option to expand them to read the entire quote. Well, that will eliminate one plugin I have - great!

I've done something similar for a project, where we have put the link to the most popular comment (which is also the one with the highest rates) into the sidebar.

But seriously, Invision + Zapier would be amazing.

We really needed: "Take me to the most popular comments" or "Take me to the highest rated comments" The reason why that's so important is because the most popular or highest rated comments // content by the community usually defines the best answers without the need to read through the entire topic to get to the most informational or informative answers of the topic. Not many people anymore want to read an entire thread to get to the best answer(s) provided by the community. This could be a game changer in forum software. The idea here is to promote the highest quality content and keep people on the site, not deter them because they have to read pages upon pages to find the best answer. The way this is now is just moving around what we had, these options do not help in defining the most informative content for a user that wants to save themselves some time, it also doesn't reward people for giving the best answers nor does it persuade people to try and give a best answer. We're still forced to read content that may not even apply to the topic subject at hand. Thanks

This updates can help Administrators to make its communities alive and protected from prohibited content: Allow Administrator to change the topicstarter. Options to ban members to change topic title and firts message separately. Setup permissions for members group that way, so the members of "one group" could see each other content, but other groups can't see "one group" content. Like parallel world in the same community. If Reply to this status... in All Activity feed, then updated status goes UP on the feed. Notifications about someone's replied to any Status Updates. Delete Digg and Delicious from Share on. Change for WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, Instagram. Add the setup option for it in the AdminCP. Word Filters for Status Updates replies. Word Filters for About Me in Profile. Display Pinned topics and Recommended posts in All Activity feed. If Added new word to filter, all the filtered content must be updated regarding Action to take. Built-in translator for messages in other languages. Quote Collapse.

You could also use for any members which join in 2020 Some other examples: Unfortunately it's not THAT easy to understand the expression code yet, that's why we're working on a better documentation, but hopefully there's also going to be an UI in a future version.

If we really want to modernize things, we should have a "Night Mode" switch in the corner. (I think there's a theme in the marketplace like this, actually) Looks good! Appreciate the attention to detail with things like this. πŸ‘

    Auto Welcome

This program is worth its weight in gold! I really like the idea of giving users a reason to be active! Good work Mr. John. The customer service is great, you walk me through the process step by step with all of your products. Small reminder for those who do all the tech work, not all are computer techies here, I know it is easy to get lost in the thralls of making cash and technical mumbo jumbo - but all consumers of this wonderful product are not technicians, but rather simpletons who really like the work; don't forget us when describing something to us. Recommendation: Not a darn thing! You amaze me with every product you create! All in All: 5/5 stars! Great product!
