  5. Invision Community has supported member referrals via the Commerce app since Commerce was called Nexus all those years ago. Community owners have been able to see at a glance who is spreading the word and members have received the kudos associated with a growing referral count in return. When planning Invision Community 4.5 we saw that this feature had the potential to be so much more… So what have we done to improve it? See Who Was Referred In addition to seeing a count of referrals, it’s now possible for both admins and members to see who they referred. If Commerce is enabled admins can also see how much commission (if any) was earned. The new referral settings page shows links, code snippets and who you've referred Member Promotion Seeing a rising count of who has been referred gives members a great feeling of community involvement but wouldn’t it be great if you could reward your members in other ways too? Referral counts now work as a member filter when using the group promotion feature. You can now automatically promote members that have referred more than a specific number of members to another user group and give them access to exclusive content. This still works alongside paid subscriptions so be another method for members not willing or able to pay for subscriptions to get access. Integration With Sharing If the feature is enabled, any time a link is shared via the built-in share links, referrals will be tracked. This occurs automatically without the member needing to think about it. It’s now easier than ever to see who your superfans are and who is bringing new people to the community. Blocks As well as the default share links we have added a new sidebar block that can be added anywhere across your community. This prominent call to action can be added on pages you think are most likely to result in recommendations. The new "Invite a friend" widget Given that referral capabilities have been expanded into many more areas outside of Commerce we decided that this should now be available as a core feature. Earning commission on sales as a result of referrals will still, of course, require Commerce to be installed. We hope that these are welcome improvements and they help you encourage more members to participate in your community.

    Advertisement Addon

    Version 1.0.6

    234 downloads

If you have Google Adsense adverts on your forum, then you will know how fussy they are about where you place their adverts. This plugin will automatically try removing Ads from pages or area's where Google might not want their adverts displayed. For example this plugin will automatically remove adverts: When the site is off-line, On specific Core Pages: Settings, Notifications, Attachments, Followed Members, Messenger, ModCP, Ignore Members, Support, Register Page, Login Page and Member Profiles, Most Pages where there might be a Edit/Add/Modify/Submit/Create form, On the Commerce Pages for Clients and Support, On the Discovery and Stream Pages, Any Forum which is selected in the plugin Settings. This could be for forums that you would not want Google poking around in, You can also add Pages to the ignore list via the plugin settings. You can select to display Ads on the Staff Directory, On-line Users and Leaderboard Pages. At the moment this plugin has been tested on Forums, Pages and Nexus and may not work 100% of the time. If that is the case then use the Disable URL option within the settings. Yes, this plugin is free and you're welcome 😉

  8. You'd be forgiven for thinking that RSS feeds belong in some bygone era of the web where Netscape was king and getting online meant listening to your modem scream at your phone line. There's certainly a lot of newer web technologies to share data, but the venerable RSS feed still has a place. Invision Community has supported RSS feed importing and exporting for a very long time now; however, it has been restricted to just Forums and Blogs. Importing an RSS feed is a simple way to populate content on your community. It's even a great way to share content to and from your site without creating blocks or writing custom code. Invision Community 4.5 now centralizes RSS feed importing, so it is available for Forums, Blogs and Pages. You can now choose to import an RSS feed to any Pages database. Better yet, there is now full support for image enclosures. RSS feeds have a special tag to note that the feed entry has an attached image. Lots of RSS feeds use this, such as the NASA Image Of The Day feed. Until now, this image has just been silently discarded. Now, it is imported as an attachment (so it can be moved around in the post or Pages entry). If the Pages database you are importing to has record images enabled, you can optionally import the enclosure as a record image which some template sets can use as a header image, just as our blog here does. But what about exporting enclosures? Happily, Invision Community 4.5 can now export the main content image of an item as an enclosure. This certainly makes the Gallery RSS feed export a lot more useful! While these updates are not revolutionary, they certainly make RSS feed importing and exporting much more useful. We've been asked to support RSS feed importing into Pages for quite a while now. What do you think of these changes? What will you import into your Pages databases?

  11. In Pages Databases the ability to use a "Database Relationship" as a field type is excellent but it would be really nice if it could be taken one step further and allow for an optional category from the linked DB to selected. By allowing a DB to use categories to group records together (combined with allowing form fields per category) it allows for some really nice organization for potentially large databases but when that database is then used as a foreign relationship field in a second DB then that organization is a lost a bit. To expand upon that in an example scenario, let's say that you create a database configured as a wiki with the focus being dining in NYC (again this is just an example scenario). In that wiki you then use categories to group records together into different categories such as restaurants, chefs, suppliers, and locations. You then create a second database that will be used for recipes. In that second DB for recipes you want to include optional fields for "Created by Chef" and/or "Restaurant First Served At". The possible answers for those fields just happen to already exist in your first wiki database in the categories "chefs" and "restaurants". Great, now you can cross link the recipes to the pertinent entries in your wiki! Unfortunately though when the database relationship field is created you can't specify to restrict the choices from within the "chefs" category or the "restaurants" category, instead all records from the wiki database become valid responses. 😞

  12. You seem to be completely flabbergasted by the idea that people could have disagreements in online forums and are willing or even interested to talk these things through for the benefit of anyone involved. You know, learning things by considering new arguments and information. And no, that doesn’t need a hidden agenda nor do I need to be an interested party in a certain feature to comment on it. That’s a really strange reasoning. People can still care about the correctness of claims and the validity or soundness of arguments presented in public forums. Can I not care about a questionable statement when it involves a different country I am not living in? Can I not care about about a statement about women’s right just because I am a man? And so on … I hope you see that this logic of “if you don’t want to use it, stay out of it” makes little sense. But it’s okay. I won’t bother you anymore with advice or any kind of Pages help in the future. No problem. IPS has a feature to make sure of that.

  18. Not yet, but we will look for possible solutions of this problem soon. Brilliant Discord Integration is more popular than we expected it to be. Initially, we aimed to provide a simple way to synchronize that would fit everybody's basic needs. Brilliant DI is now responsible for synchronizing hundreds of thousands of people. Since there is more and more demand for new Brilliant features and we want to provide even greater experience, we are considering development of the next generation of Brilliant Discord Integration. The first generation is not ready for some cool features. Currently, we are working hard on another Brilliant application which may arrive soon to the Marketplace, so it won't arrive soon (if ever), but we have a basic concept for it. It could deliver even more exciting experience (which is unusual in Marketplace). The basic configuration wizard would no longer force clients to create Discord bots themselves, and members could interact with the community using the Brilliant Bot. And the performance would significantly increase. We have a concept for a technology that would allow you to use Brilliant DI seamlessly - you could even forget Rate Limits and most of the unusual errors which sometimes happen due to bad server configuration. But that's not all. Did you even thought how useful it would be to change member's roles on Discord and have them changed on your Invision Community website? This would save a lot of time. And the thing many of you wait for - multiple server support. We have many clients that have 2 or more Discord servers for a single community - for example, a separate server for staff. This is very convenient - so convenient (or more) could Brilliant Discord Integration be. These are a few basic ideas, but it would be great to hear your feedback about them. Answering your question... 😄 We will consider it. Thank you for your suggestion.
