    Pages SuperGrid

    Version 3.1

    1,379 downloads

Black Friday Sale—Buy one, get one free. Buy any of my products (Link) between November 11 and November 30 and get another one of my products with an equal or lower price free of charge. 1st) Buy the first product. 2nd) write me a PM or email telling me which product you bought and which one you like for free. The special is only valid as described above. No variations. No negotiations. Pages SuperGrid is a set of Pages templates and a complete solution to make your Pages databases (with articles, directories and so on) appealing and engaging. SuperGrid is one of the most popular files in the Applications & Plugins category on the IPS Marketplace and used on hundreds of websites. Live Demo What’s needed: IPS 4.3 or 4.4 in their most recent version with the Pages application A pages databases that uses the stock Record Image field and has images with a sufficient resolution uploaded through that field. (Technically, the templates also work without images, but it’s an image-centered design and works best when most or all records have images.) Which templates are included: A beautiful grid-based Front Page template with two records featured at the top — for when your database is set to article mode. A beautiful grid-based Listing template replacing the dull forum listing design — for when you open a category or have a database without categories. A unique Record View template with a large header image — for when you open a specific record. A category listing template – in case you use more than one category. Note: You can use the templates for any number of databases, but the settings will always apply to all SuperGrid templates. Bonus Feature: Block template! Create blocks anywhere on your site – pointing to your database – and make them as beautiful as the database itself. Detailed Feature Description and Notes: Pages SuperGrid is built with the IPS design framework and is therefore fully responsive and compatible to most well-coded/well-designed themes. The styling of your theme(s) is inherited and the Pages SuperGrid templates will usually work out of the box. The template is designed to work on single-column pages with or without a sidebar. The grid will automatically adopt to the available width and collapse on smaller devices. The content field is not shown in the grid-based listing templates and all images will be scaled and cropped (without distortion) to the same size to allow a consistent look. The templates come with lots of options you can easily adjust within the template. Front Page/Listing Template: Show reaction images or reaction count Show author/category/date: Yes/No Alignment author/category/date Show comments/views/ratings/likes: Yes/No Alignment comments/views/ratings/likes Show record owner’s avatar: Yes/no Alignment record owner’s avatar Title alignment Image Aspect Ratio Use thumbnail or full-size images Turn images into record link: Yes/No Assign fallback image for records without an image Show “featured record” badge for featured records: Yes/No Pick badge style for featured records Show “pinned record” badge for pinned records: Yes/No Pick badge style for pinned records support for category images using the Pages Category Images plugin Record View Template: Image Aspect Ratio Pick Avatar size from 7 options Turn header image on or off Show “featured record” badge for featured records: Yes/No Pick badge style for featured records Show “pinned record” badge for pinned records: Yes/No Pick badge style for pinned records Block Template: Show or hide block title Shuffle entries Randomize shuffled entries

This cannot be changed in the AdminCP actually, and for the most part it's fine for a platform like Instagram, but not for a platform like ours. It does not make sense to show replies in reverse chronological order, because you lose the context of the conversation. Showing a stream of status updates (ala Facebook), the order isn't really relevant at the end of the day so you can do this, but even Facebook's comments are in chronological order (unless there are so many they use a different algorithm, like "most appropriate"). We also have an optimized mobile view (officially known as a "responsive design") out of the box for the platform....as well as a mobile app in the works (in addition to the PWA-style approaches we support as well, which you already seem to be aware of).

Yay, finally, that's brilliant news! Lot of possibilities open up with this. Thank you! 🥰 I see the NASA image RSS feed is going into Pages, so hopefully it will gracefully handle any images in the RSS feed (e.g. first image as featured news article image). P.S. Honestly, some people are never satisfied! 😬 P.S.S Hmm, that's also a nice way to import migrate IPS Blogs into Pages Articles, if needed. 🤔 P.S.S.S. I wonder if this will be limited to Pages or whether it supports selecting the Gallery app, as well?

Frankly...I don't think too many people try to edit code on an iPad. 😉 We will keep an eye out, and if you notice a new release that addresses the issue yourself feel free to let us know.

The engagement trap is a race to community activity for the sake of activity. It's usually measured by simple aggregate numbers like the total number of posts, topics, likes, or members. Many community managers and webmasters enjoy spouting engagement numbers. It's an easy number to brag about. It's an easy number to find. It's also, unfortunately, a terrible metric to measure. Engagement metrics are exhausting since you're aiming for higher-and-higher goals, which grow into unreasonable levels over time. It's misleading, because it's not indicative of information exchanges or quality resources. And it's ultimately harmful, because it encourages participation in socially-charged conversation that are ever more entertaining, more controversial, and more extreme. You don't want members to chat. You want members to learn, to advocate, to innovate, to educate, to support, to problem solve, and to enlighten. Engagement metrics are marketing numbers used to measure audience size and a currency of the attention economy where you're the product. It's an entirely wrong metric for online communities where the goal is not how big you can get, but on how you can help your members. Your Metrics & Your Strategy There's a famous management quote from Peter Drucker that says, "what gets measured gets managed." What you want to measure, and therefore manage and improve, is a reflection of your community strategy and your objectives. Here are some ideas of what you could measure: The number of questions or feedback requests that were answered in high-value boards of functional content The number of educational resources that were added to a certain category The number of new topics that were posted in a growing section The selection of special keywords or tags that you want to track The number of informative reactions that were given out in a certain period The participation of high-value experts in your community Segment Your Community Not all parts of your community should be treated equally, especially if you have a large and dynamic community with several apps and categories. Your community may have a mix of one or more of the following: Educational and functional-value boards Social and member-based forums and boards New sections that are growing Mature sections that have leveled off Different content types and reactions Different groups of members Instead of evaluating your community as one entity, segment your community. This allows you to hyper-focus your attention and grow specific areas that match with specific objectives. For example, I always measure the number of new topics in boards that are educational and informative, since they're high-value functional content. I don't pay attention to mature sections that have reached saturation, but I aggressively track new sections. Measurement & Analysis Invision Community ships with a powerful set of Statistics in the ACP that cover every application. I personally spend more time in Statistics than any other part of the ACP, because it gives me the data and research to inform my decision making. It helps me focus my attention on the sections that matter the most to my community strategy and reveals unexpected insights. The ACP won't have all of the fine-grained filtering or data reporting that you may need. Maintain your own recording, even if it needs to be manual. Conclusion Trying to boost engagement is a race that you'll never win. It has nothing to do with your community strategy; it doesn't measure the value you give and receive from your audience; and it can push you to drive empty traffic with unintended consequences. Independent communities that focus on the hard, difficult work of offering communities of indispensable value will always find growth. It will be the right kind of growth, in the right areas of your community, with the right audience. That's a race that will meaningfully empower your members and your community to the finish line. If you are looking for a chat app, this is the one to get. It is better than The Jackal's app in every way possible. It just works like it should and my members are very happy to have something good in place. I literally disabled The Jackal's app and went without chat for a while before finding this one.

@beats23 Did you ever find a solution for this? Running a photography site on a different forum platform our experience is the same, that members prefer to simply attach their photos to forum posts instead of going through the gallery. On that platform I'm using a bespoke add-on to display the EXIF data but am curious if there is an IPS solution to do the same task.

I want to highlight that there are use cases when the default emojis should be on the top 😉 On my community, I prefer the old and outdated custom emojis at the bottom. This way people will slowly convert to the newer ones without me having to deal with the drama that unfolds when you disable the old emojis. Putting the old ones on top will be like there are no newer ones at all 🙂 In a nutshell: we need an option to organize the categories as we perfer.

    So easy to skin!

It has been many, many years since I did my first skins for your products (first skin was around 1.1 I think, or maybe even before that). Today I felt the urge to go dark as Blizzard announced Diablo 4 and in just a few hours I could completely transform my site. So thank you for providing a great platform for building skins easy.

Gallery 4.3.x - Resize original image

I want to reiterate my support for image optimization at all levels, including the original. Our concerns are highly justified as admins. Our users live in a world of Instagram, Facebook, and Tumblr that provide automatic image resizing that's completely opaque to the end user, who is using the latest smartphones snapping better and bigger photos. Our users simply don't know, don't care, and too lazy to optimize their 25 MB photo before uploading. An album of those photos has now permanently increased my Amazon S3 bill for the rest of my life. 1. Convert image extensions like PNG into JPEG. JPEG is usually a significantly smaller file size than PNG images, even at same dimensions. 2. Allow us to resize the upper bound of 'original' images. I have users who upload the original photographer images from photoshoots that are print-quality at dimensions of 4000 pixels. Even if I resize my 'large' from 1280 to 1600 px, there's no way I'm ever going to benefit from 4000 px images.

Gallery 4.3.x - Resize original image

Hello, this is absolutely true. We in our community have exatly the same probelm: Users do not want to resize images by themselves, they expect the software to this job for them. Therefore we as well would really like to get such a functionality in the gallery.

Gallery 4.3.x - Resize original image

@bfarber - this is not possible, my board have 230.000 images for now (5 years), and used disk space for these images - 25 GB. When I move site to Invision - images forder grow 3.6 gb within 2 weeks, that mean 7.5 gb monthly, we just not need such disk space wasted for unused big pictures. At least we need an option so original image will be resized during upload, it a must thing... My users are people low skilled in computers, asking them to resize an image to 500 kb before upload make no sense, they will leave my board. Must be an option for clients who care about resources :))

Gallery 4.3.x - Resize original image

@Ramsesx its cool, but original images are stored as well. The only solution is limit users to say 500 kb per upload, but many of users do not want resize photos themself, they just passed by, it's NOT acceptable for such modern board engine not to have such simple option - do-not-store huge not-needed images, I guess. Thanks!

Yes, bumping this post - for big community this is unacceptable, my users load about 3,5 Gb crappy biggy images within 2 weeks, on previous board engine it was 100-150 mb... ok, 200 at max... ) @TVplaneta may be you find the solution?....
