    Private Threads INSTEAD of PM's

Slack is an entirely different type of product with an entirely different focus. Their aim is to provide a messaging solution, where group and direct messages should be instant. This is analogous to the old IP.Chat software we used to produce. A community package (i.e. "forums") are not the same type of thing, so comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges. Our personal conversations feature can provide direct 1 to 1 (or 1 to many) private conversation functionality, and while we can and may improve it in a future release, I don't think Invision Community will ever head down the path of becoming a Slack clone.

Yes, Google waits until Invision Community installations get indexed and then immediately changes its algorithm just to spite us.

    Bulk emails and members language

Hi, Apparently, when creating a bulk email, there is no option to filter by the members language. Am I wrong? If not, that would be a great feature to be able to send emails depending on the members language. We could create a different bulk email for each language. Thank you πŸ™‚

Collecting, curating and organising ideas and feedback is a critical part of managing a community for a product. Even though here at Invision Community, we have a relaxed approach to ideation, we do read and review ideas and feature requests that come into us via our support community and via emails and tickets and organise them off-site. If you wanted to add more rigour to your ideation process, then Invision Community has built-in tools that you can use. This video covers setting up a "Question & Answer" forum, which forms the basis for your ideation section along with using the built-in translation tools to tweak the interface language. The complete process takes around five minutes and is the perfect way to collect and organise community ideas. Once you have it set up, your community members can post their ideas and fellow community members can upvote their favourite suggestions, leave comments on ideas and even upvote and downvote replies inside the idea. Let me know what you thought, and if you have any further questions below!

You need to get accepted into Google News Publishing first. I HIGHLY recommend researching everything you need to do to get accepted before you submit your site to them. Probably a good idea to read this forum first. https://support.google.com/news/publisher-center/threads?hl=en&thread_filter=(category:inclusion_advice)

Slack Direct Message to one or more parties = IPS personal message = I would reverse your logic and state... Why wouldn't any modern forum / social media want fast personal / direct messaging? What purpose does the 30 second delay and need to refresh the entire screen to see if someone responded actually serve? Is there a whole group of people I'm missing who love delays? I wonder if anyone ever said... "You'll need to provide a compelling reason why anyone would ever use an internet speed faster than 56K"

Greetings, with the industry standard of Single Sign-On (SSO) continually increasing, the need to provided authentication and authorization across your independent software systems is paramount for system administrators and web development engineers. For those who run WHMCS, a popular web hosting control platform, here is a quick tutorial to use your installation of IPB as an OAuth2.0 client and WHMCS as the OAuth2.0 server to provide SSO capabilities for your IPB and WHMCS systems. Step 1: Make sure your IP is whitelisted within the WHMCS control panel. We will be using the WHMCS API to manage and create our OAuth2.0 credentials. You can add your IP to the whitelisted IP's under Setup -> General Settings -> Security Tab -> "API IP Access Restriction". Step 2: Create a set of API credentials that we will use to access the WHMCS API that will allow us to create our OAuth2.0 credentials. You can add your API credentials within WHMCS control panel by going to Setup -> Staff Management -> Manage API Credentials. Create a new API credential - making sure to copy the identifier and secret. Your API credential will need access to an API role that has all "Authentication" permissions. Step 3: Download an application you can use to run REST API requests. I use Postman which is free and provides everything you will need. You can also use cURL. Step 4: Create an OAuth2.0 credential that will be used by IPB to obtain an authorization code my making a POST request to the WHMCS API. Make sure to fill in 'username' and 'password' with your API identifier and secret, respectively. You can obtain your IPB_OAUTH_REDIRECT_URI by logging into the IPB admin control panel, visit Login & Registration -> Create New -> Other OAuth2.0 -> Application Settings. cURL Request $ch = curl_init(); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, 'https://www.example.com/includes/api.php'); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, http_build_query( array( 'action' => 'CreateOAuthCredential', 'username' => 'WHMCS_API_IDENTIFIER', 'password' => 'WHMCS_API_SECRET', 'granttype' => 'authorization_code', 'scope' => 'clientarea:sso clientarea:profile clientarea:billing_info clientarea:emails clientarea:announcements clientarea:downloads clientarea:knowledgebase clientarea:network_status clientarea:product_details clientarea:invoices clientarea:tickets clientarea:submit_ticket clientarea:shopping_cart_domain_register clientarea:shopping_cart_domain_transfer clientarea:upgrade', 'description' => 'OAuth2.0 credentials for IPB SSO.', 'responsetype' => 'json', 'redirectUri' => 'IPB_OAUTH_REDIRECT_URI', 'name' => 'IPB SSO' ) ) ); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); $response = curl_exec($ch); curl_close($ch); Postman Step 5: Copy the clientIdentifier and clientSecret you received. Step 6: Fill out IPB OAuth2.0 form with your known settings. Grant Type: Authorization Code Client Identifier: Your copied clientIdentifier Client Secret: Your copied clientSecret Client Authentication: Request Body Scopes to Request: openid, email, profile (Each one as a new line) Authorization Endpoint: https://www.linktowhmcsinstallation.com/oauth/authorize.php Authorization for AdminCP: Use the same endpoint as normal logins Token Endpoint: https://www.linktowhmcsinstallation.com/oauth/token.php User Information Endpoint: https://www.linktowhmcsinstallation.com/oauth/userinfo.php User ID Parameter: sub Display Name Parameter: name Email Address Parameter: email Step 7: Try it out! The nofollow system is not flexible, and needs to update with the changing times. For example, in my Pages articles I need to be able to use rel="external" (follow) because I cite articles often as sources, and they deserve a follow for that, while in the forum I now need to use the rel="external ugc" tag (yes, there are new tags now from google). In one of my categories where I do product reviews, I must use rel="sponsored external." Currently the ONLY way I can do this is using MySQL queries to make the changes, as IPB has only one setting. My hope here is that you read google's new post on this and update your system to offer more flexibility: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2019/09/evolving-nofollow-new-ways-to-identify.html

Community logo on mobile (reduce size)

Agreed - there needs to be more focus on responsive images (and either providing a utility to upload or auto generate, although I prefer creating images at specific sizes) another way to address this would be to allow an SVG forum logo...

    IPS Character Manager

I am not sure I can find enough good words to express how awesome this application is. I left forum roleplay because of having to use account linking mods to run multiple characters. That meant having to have multiple accounts, multiple PMs, etc. I ran my RPGs on Nova for several years which rocked because it was set up so that we had one account and multiple characters. It had drawbacks, but it was still superior to having to use multiple accounts in order to write our characters' posts. Then Nova kind of stalled out a bit and my users were not thrilled with having to know HTML to do simple text formatting. I made the decision...reluctantly...to move back to forums. I settled on IPS and back to account linking. Then - this mod and WOW! The Character Manager app does everything and more most people could want if they run RPGs where people can have multiple characters. @Mandalala covered it pretty thoroughly in their review so I'll throw a few words in from the non-tech type person. Installation and primary set-up was a breeze. Prior to this application, I was using pages to manage our character profiles so it took a little maneuvering to get our already created characters moved to the new app. However, that was just a matter of time not technical expertise. I did have to ask for some help to style our character profiles and mini-profiles. However, the help was speedy and detailed. When I came time to install the app on my second IPS site, it was mega-easy. So, yes, if you run multi-character RPGs, this is a must have for character management! Get it, it and the support given is well worth the price.

Agreed. We make the BULK of revenue off of ads on the forums. Without a net positive on monitization I would NEVER adopt this. We also have many features outside of the forums. Since this is not PWA the experience between an app and non app parts of the site will be bad. I'll pass and wait for PWA support. To note, I DO appreciate the effort for mobile. I just think this won't work for our community. Also to note, I'm not sure Google allows a single app (common app) to host Soo many different AdSense account ads. Is it not one account per app? It's also unclear if you would support header bidding (big deal for larger sites).

    Dark Theme

    Version 1.0.1

I'm not a theme designer, just a customer that created a dark theme for my own site and was never intended to be released to the public, but due to interest within the community I have uploaded this theme on to the marketplace....for free. The theme contains zero template edits, only CSS changes which can be found in the custom.css file. Fully compatible with all IPS apps!
