If you're getting hit hard with spam, I would suggest evaluating your question challenges. Making sure these are questions unique to your community that only interested members would know is key. Remember there are 2 types of spam, bot and human. Creating unique questions will hopefully eliminate a good majority of them both. This technique has eliminated spam on my personal community so I am a huge proponent of ensuring this feature is used properly. Also like @opentype suggested, performing a moderator review on their first content is also a good safety net. For more, I'd suggest r2 points

(NE) HTML5 Audio/Video Player
Ludificor reacted to Nathan Explosion for a topic
No need - once I've taken a closer look then I can fix it. Totally forgot about the 'Download attachments' permission that was available, so I'll just refine things to adhere to that instead of the simple guests check that is being done in this case. Busy all day tomorrow (normal work) so afternoon is the earliest I can take a look.1 point -

Yeah, this would be a nice idea but seems quite challenging to implement and replace what we currently have.1 point -
Question and Topic
Tom S. reacted to espacemusculation for a topic
I suggest you don't have to choose between question and message for the forums. This is annoying because on my forums, some messages are questions, others are discussions. It would be nice to give the person the option of "posting as a question" for example. Thanks you1 point -
IPS 4.1 : ADVERTISEMENT inside the first post
trananhls reacted to forumdev99 for a topic
This is working well - thanks for all the help @Upgradeovec I ended up struggling to get the ad block to float to the right of the post content like i wanted it to - so that it isn't above or below the post text (unless on a small screen). float:right; didn't seem to work like it should, so I ended up w/ the below code which is the closest I could get to what I want. Please share if anyone has a better way of doing this. my code: <!-- adsense ad code in first post start --> {{if (($comment->position - 1) % \IPS\Settings::i()->forums_posts_per_page === 0)}}1 point -
Index of Tags or Tag's Page
Silnei L Andrade reacted to Ludificor for a topic
you can add a page with Ip content and place the advanced tags and prefixes widget into that one. just no pagination though. It's the only option currently I believe.1 point -

What's New in Version 5.1.3: Fix: ArgumentCountError on embed feature for guests.1 point -
I've converted my community to be mostly club-driven, and it's working alright. I noticed some shortcomings that I'd like to address below: Open clubs need an option for auto approval toggle option for members that wish to join. Right now, you can set it to open, see the contents, but need the approval to join. My reasoning behind this is that I want to give freedom to members to come and go as they please from certain clubs. They have more control over the content they see that way, and public clubs should be the only "see the content, don't need to join" option. Open clubs should also1 point

That take's the fun out, Remember you can disable them if you don't want them sold The trophies are won by generating a random number from the trophy database, if you have 5 trophies active then there will be 5 id's in the database maybe 1,4,6,9,10 so the code will pick a random number from 1,4,6,9,10 and then award that trophy to the member, if the member has the award already then it won't award nothing and the user loses, I had 10 trophies and it took just over 50+ attempts to get them all, Remember when creating a trophy that you don't award it to yourself / users when creating it1 point -
Podcast: Online Communities in the Post-Facebook Era
Matt reacted to Patrick O'Keefe for an entry
Thanks so much for sharing the show, @Matt! Really enjoyed the conversation. Sorry for any downtime, @Joel R! We are on a ridiculously old VPS, and I have a new one ready to go, but the podcast and my day job have just been killing me lately, so I haven't been able to find time. I can't wait to get my sites switched over! Patrick1 point -

Nice article and highlights many of the new improvements in 4.2. Don't forget about the Streamlined Social Sign-in, which adds a social sign-in button at the forum reply. This helps convert guests into members at the point of engagement. Another often overlooked but built-in tool is the "Popular Now" widget, which can be placed anywhere including the top of the page, bottom of the page, or sidebar. This widget highlight the hottest topics that are being discussed at the moment and helps first-time visitors jump into the action.1 point

I've not examined our competitors products for a while, but please keep in mind that Invision Community is a single platform for community building, eCommerce, blogging, gallery albums and more. If you are concerned with performance, then I recommend you sign up to our Cloud plans. Our cloud infrastructure is highly optimised for Invision Community and you won't have to worry about tweaking InnoDB, CDNs, Redis and PHP. We take care of that for you. Our resident Speed-feind @Adlago may have suggestions too. He's optimised Invision Community to be faster than a Tie Fighter.1 point

I would absolutely NOT recommend deleting cached templates at shutdown on every page load. I already answered the original inquiry with the solution (which is to return the code to execute, rather than the result of executing that code the first time).1 point

Betting
Ivo Pereira reacted to Midnight Modding for a topic
It will. And once it does release, future versions will never be this hectic. One reason this one will for sure get done is I am a big sports fan, so i will want it for myself, anyway. I also still plan to make a fantasy sports app or maybe as an addon to this app. I also want to add cool new features. Most likely I will just try to get it released with previous features first, to not slow down release, then I will add new features quickly. I wonder if anyone even used "free bets" or "big bets" features.... I guess I'll leave them in just in case.1 point -
Fixed this myself with a manual code change, by setting ~/extensions/core/Notifications/TrophyAndMedal.php line 58 to be equal to line 69. Old value: 'author' => \IPS\Member::load( 1 ), // [Optional] The user whose photo should be displayed for this notification New value: 'author' => \IPS\Member::load( \IPS\Settings::i()->trophy_notification_sender ), // [Optional] The user whose photo should be displayed for this notification1 point

A quick solution: In your custom.css add: .ipsQuote_contents .ipsImage, .ipsQuote_contents .ipsEmbeddedVideo { display: none; } Or aligning images (and smaller) .ipsQuote_contents .ipsImage, .ipsQuote_contents p .ipsImage { float: left; width: 80px; height: 80px; margin: 0 5px 5px 0; } .ipsQuote_contents .ipsEmbeddedVideo { display: none; } Hope it helps1 point

Please, put all css and js files in one minimized css and one js file automatically. Nobody in 2017 uses million files. Page load time is very important thing now! Think about SEO! Good robots.txt from the box is important thing too.1 point
