  1. GriefCode

    CloudFlare and IPS

I have also the free licensing of CF running in front of my servers, mainly to hide my IP. I never experienced any issues like that, for reference i recommend: Remove the whole cache from CF, so you are sure that the actual version is cached to CF, also an option is to enable development mode once. Check your secure connection settings, either enable HSTS or disable HTTPS flexible setting to off. Before i had several issues that IPB is not loading properly, fonts, images etc., the reason is that IPB loads with the URL you can find in your global conf, probably once you have set it to http, you are always loading files through http. Since CF mostly enables a https protocol in front of your page for the matching devices, they try to load data from https, which cause some issues As already someone said, CF is there to manage incoming traffic, but not outgoing, you may want to ask the IPS support for the specific IP / IPs to be whitelisted when hosting IPS, maybe your Hoster detected a connection there which detected by some exploit scripts and was automatically blocked (i do not think that is the reason, because afaik, the license is once saved on install and only updated/renewed when you hit the refresh button) To the last statement, your site is going offline on a lot traffic, what is a lot of traffic for you? I have seen pages behind CF which basically manage up to 500.000 requests per minute behind a free license. If you have more requests (which i highly don't doubt) you may want to contact their support and you may need to upgrade to a business or (what i think) a pro license. (Happy Payments \ / ) Also, you should always consider if the action, to put your site behind CF makes sense. If your Hoster recommend it, it doesn't mean it's always the best decision. CF offers a various points which are good, but also has mostly side effects. Caching: Caching is the most efficient feature of CF in one. You have lower page speeds, since CF is nearly on every central net node with their cache servers. Less server traffic, looking up the CF Analytics displays you the saved traffic of your pageThis is the reason why Hosters recommend it, it's pretty simply to know why (im working myself as hobby with a VPS Hoster, and i know the struggle) You may have a shared, container based system and a limited Traffic amount at the end of the month. The provider is always calculating with an average way, you may have 1TB Traffic, but the calculation is 200GB Traffic at a maximum, because most servers are using less than 100GB Traffic. If you are using CF you are mainly saving traffic, which has a positive turn for a Hoster. You get even less traffic for the traffic which you are actually allowed to use, so the Hoster can reduce the traffic he buys monthly. Additionally, the shared system generally lowers, since CF is caching your requests, you have less requests gone to your server, less load, less usages = more space for other containers on the virtualization machine. Development is a negative point i need to bring up. Im constantly developing and the caching part always disturbs me, you need to turn on the development mode, and it does expire after 2 hrs, when you don't notice you are sitting there confused why its not on the server what you changed etc. DDos Protection: This is the main feature why i moved to CF, you can filter traffic which is going through your web port (flooding attacks), if you don't have any experience regarding attacks, you don't need that actually. DDos is currently badly mainly in the gaming communities placed, and we were recently targets from a lot DDos attacks, i wish that no one must experience what we did there, however it had a side effect, my Hoster upgraded to a 500GBit/s DDos cloud-filter protection \ / Also the DDos protection coming up with issues, CF protects you only against a limited band width, on your free plan, you either put in front the 5 seconds loading screen, or you will be asked to upgrade your plan, else they will simply block your page in a jail, so no one is able to access it in that case. Free SSL Certificate: If you enable the HSTS and set the HTTPS to Full, you will get a free certificate from CF for your side. However, the whole thing has a backside, the SSL cert is pretty low. So if you have a huge community, you may want to get your own certificate which offers a bit more security. This are the basic ideas of CF, i hope i didn't scare you with the wall post. But this are the known facts which need to be looked at before using CF. In some cases its really recommend to use CF, but in some it's really not. Regards

  3. When you disable profiles for a group, then your members also lose a way to view their own activity. When I disable a groups ability to view profiles I don't want them to be able to view other members activity or their profile, because they want their privacy from other members. But I would still like for members to be able to view their own activity.

  8. I can see why it was removed though. I think it is safer in the ACP or at least (as I made the suggestion) a re-authentication option before pruning as its as you know quite destructive, and 'accidents' are known to happen.

    Unique menu manager?!

I would also like a menu manager to be something in the core. Ideally I think it should allow us to easily customize all menus. Like the user menu, "app line menu", the menu at the line with the breadcrumb etc. It should all be easily managable within one central menu page, without having to go to the app list and change whether the menu tab for that app should be visible etc.

On the left side of the screen there should be something like this: Just click it, select the widget you want and place it on the board.

  14. Sure, I got that. My question was rather: why does it have to use the block area function? The drag&drop functionality is aimed at regular users who are unable to write code to customize their sites. If you can do this, you don’t really need those block areas. You can just edit templates or hook into them.

  16. Hehe, don't worry, you don't have to deal with another extension for php, etc The GPS-datas are in the exif-informations, IF the camera/device support GPS (Most mobiles do, some cameras need external GPS-Trackers, some has build in GPS-Trackers some don't support GPS at all (you may add coordinates manually using tools like GeoSetter (http://www.geosetter.de/en/ ) . Never had complains from users - most people post pictures from my hometown showing their favorite places or events, so they don't have to describe where the picture was taken. etc (That will certainly be different when you run a cheating-site and users post pictures of their affairs )

    Unique menu manager?!

This is currently not possible using the menu manager built into IPS. However you should check out CJ Menu by @CodingJungle which allows you to reorder and built any menu you want.

    Videos Support

Yes, I think so. The reason I don't like it being fixed there is because I need something else above it, so being a widget I could move it further down the sidebar, or it could be left off if somebody doesn't want it. None of the main IPB applications have anything like that, the sidebar is available to be used however somebody wants. Yes, just like the Gallery page - I think that would look great so that "media" type applications have the same look & feel. In the admin section you could have checkboxes for the blocks the user wants on the main page ie. Categories, New, Featured - perhaps with the abilty to change sort order. Then if somebody has loads of categories they can choose whether or not they want to show them or not, if they like how it looks or not. Another option could be to allow user to feature either videos or categories, so if they have a lot of categories they could just choose the main ones they want to feature.

  23. Sorry that you are losing face. However, you are experiencing intermittent 500 server errors. Errors which are server configuration related. Errors which (whatever they are) have not been disclosed to me. Now I am more than willing to assist where I can, and I will absolutely bend over backwards to fix a problem with my software for you. As soon as we can confirm that there is one, I will definitely get it fixed.

  24. It should be. There's a lot of things that could be done by allowing block areas to be placed freely. For example, making a customized theme that doesn't use the standard IPS layout, which has more block areas, or two sidebars, or a spot for a big header slider widget or whatnot.

  25. The system is currently not set up in a way where you are supposed to freely add and arrange new block areas. What are you trying to achieve anyway? If you want to add something to the header you don’t necessarily need a block area there first.

  26. As per the suggested procedure outlined here: https://css-tricks.com/rems-ems/ The benefit is that it'll be much easier to re-scale the size of text according to the preferences of the site owner for different resolutions, devices etc. without too much effort. Rem and em can also be used for margins and paddings btw. The downside is that you'll need to go through all existing places where font-sizes (and possibly some cases it could be beneficial to use for margins and paddings too) in order to change to this, but I personally think it would be worth it. Where I work we've already used this approach for other projects for quite a while. @Rikki: Do you see any problems or challenges with this idea? Have it been considered?

    Export Email List

Please can you implement a method to generate a mailing list within IPB 4 and then EXPORT that list as a csv. I appreciate that IPB4 has its own built in bulk mail system, but this is very a basic system and doesn't meet any of our requirements. We have to have the ability to export email addresses so that they can be imported into more advanced 3rd party software.

  29. @Mark A checkbox control is more appropriate for this input. For the reason just mentioned and also in a multi-select list, if you accidentally mis-click, all your selections are gone.

  31. That is another point - if you let users add external images, the host can pull the images down and it messes up the posts on your site. Edit: A way I've seen this solved with other scripts is that the admin can enable an option that means when a user inserts an image URL, the image is downloaded and re-uploaded to your own server so it's not being loaded from someone else's server.

  32. It has a width and a height tag in the html, so they must be editing the template: I do this for mine: core/front/global/logo <a href='{setting="base_url"}' id='elLogo' accesskey='1'><img src="/forum/cdn/images/logo_autoit_210x72.png" srcset="/images/logo_autoit_210x72@2x.png 2x" alt=''></a>
