That doesn’t sound like a very professional approach. Every version fixes bugs and comes with new ones. I pick the time to upgrade very carefully because of this. If a certain bug fix is crucial for my site, I try to be fast with upgrading. If I don’t have crucial bugs but see problems with the latest releases (as the countless image problems in 4.0.5) I will wait. Why should hundreds of admins check if certain bugs are fixed, if you can signal it with one click of a button in the bug tracker?4 points

i am just looking at the fall out of upgrading from 3x - 4 there was some initial issues that wasn't discovered until well after i went live, preventing me from downgrading. the upgrade process or the changeurl script or move process had totally butchered the file names in the upload folder - in fact it never completed moving files half were left in the root uploads the some were moved to the new /attachments/ directory that I setup. Most that were moved the file name no longer has any value that can easily be traced back to the record in the database or anything identifiable without consulti3 points -

My community has adopted and will extensively rely upon IP.Gallery in the newest IPS 4, and my members have been uploading photos left and right. It's made me aware of some shortcomings: 1. When one of my registered members uploads a photo, the notification says "Guest has posted new images." It's not a guest, it's a registered member. I happen to know it's a registered member because when I get an email of the same notification, it displays the member avatar. 2. When all permissions for image uploading is turned off for a category (because it's meant to serve only as a category title, n2 points

[4.0.5] Nothing works after upgrade

So there's no solution to custom themes no longer working? Since the upgrade to 4.0.5.1 my site has become totally useless, not being able to change or edit anything either. I've submitted a ticket but no response yet. This can't be right?2 points -

In the 21st century, this should definitely be an option. Why even support videos in the gallery at all if it does not support embedding externally hosted content?1 point

It's been suggested before to enable full SSL support for the AdminCP, but I'd like to take things a step further with my own suggestion. I would like to have the option to enable SSL everywhere on IP.Board. Not just on login pages, not just the ACP, but give users the option to use SSL globally, similar to the manner sites like Facebook do. Users would be able change this setting through their account settings, giving them the option to enable or disable global SSL this way, but still letting the admin force SSL on login pages. SSL would first need to be enabled and set up by the boar1 point

I've been reading docs and code but from what I can make up out of this is that I can not add a new FileSystem such as Amazon and FTP by the means of extensions. I would like to add Imgur. Should I just create a plugin for that? I'm trying to create an extension which uploads images (as attachment) to imgur instead of our own filesystem1 point

Getting article image to show in sidebar
Marius reacted to Ryan Williams for a topic
Hi guys, I'm trying to do a smooth transition to IPS Suite, and something I'm having difficulty figuring out is how to get my sidebar to show an article's image thumbnail rather than the author's avatar. I can see that this code generates the avatar: {template="userPhoto" group="global" app="core" params="$record->author(), 'tiny'"} I assume that I can tweak those attributes to get the image I want, however unlike IP.Board 3.4 I can't see a convenient list of available tokens/variables/fields anywhere. Google really isn't very helpful with IPS Suite (yet), so I'm hoping somebody has a poin1 point -

There seems to be an issue with file storage since the upgrade. I cannot get my record images to show because the URL's do not link to the actual image. You could be having the same problem.1 point -

After updating to V4 all smileys are gone
theblackelk reacted to 3DKiwi for a topic
Ditto I had this as well. I had to manually upload my smilies that were missing and add "default_" to their name. No mention of this in the upgrade instructions in the client section. Next problem is all posts prior to the upgrade that have smilies aren't showing the image. The text shortcut displays instead. I've got a ticket in for this and other problems.1 point -

I don't see much change either. Things did improve. It would be nice to expand and see where these issues are. Also, 89 requests seems rather high. I'll poke around with the url and see what I can find that can be done to help improve the speeds and such of your site and post again later, possibly editing this post. With what I see just taking a peek, turning this image linked below into a jpg will help reduce load times and file size. last upgrade 4.0.5.1 horrible
The Old Man reacted to The Heff for a topic
I've upgraded tonight from 3.4.8 to 4.0.5.1 with no issues, albeit on a test copy of my board. I am testing it several times before I finally commit. I removed everything except; .htaccess fileglobal_conf.phpuploads folderpublic folderI CHMOD'd the emoticons folder, which is found in the public folder, to 777 and recursed this change to all subfolders and files. I had to convert the database to UTF8 using the standalone converter since the one included in the download keeps crapping out on me. The upgrade went very smoothly though. Once the upgrade was done I deleted the public folder entirely1 point -
Bug Tracker
Good-Admin reacted to djpretzel for a topic
Cool, but... wouldn't it be a good idea to add a bug entry and close it out, on their behalf, in those cases? For visibility and reporting? Otherwise there's no single repository of all bugs, which... I dunno, just seems like something you would want, as developers.1 point -

My original post was intended for the operation this board only. Being that this site is more amenable to attacks only due to it prominence. The suggested mediation processes would be good for the end users in as much they are user controlled (site administrator)1 point -

Okay... just out of curiosity, when you say they're "outside" of the bug tracker - where are they, then? I thought the bug tracker was supposed to be the end-all be-all source of bugs/issues being worked on... I'm assuming then that you've got JIRA or something else that you use internally?1 point -
Viewing Hidden Content & Spam content.
Joel R reacted to Ocean West for a topic
when moderators are allow to see hidden content ( in line ) that is fine because typically its minimal in their current app like VNC or in a forum or topic. however when a person is flagged as spammer and 2 dozen items are hidden (not deleted) they still see these in their field of view on VNC and in blocks and forums perhaps the "queue" field could be set to 3 for posts that are "SPAM" or have been flagged as spam and in the topics the "approved field" could be set to -2 these items would be hidden from the front of the site and could be seen from the ModeratorCP this will still allow for vi1 point -

I concur, I watched 10+ new users last night post more that 5 pages of spam in the pre sales. In my opinion I think one of two options are needed, new users have a time limit prior to them being able to post, and then in the forum that they appear to be abusing a full moderation of post , both starter and replies. I know that it would require more staff, but I think IPS can vette clients that can be first level mods if only board wise. Thanks.1 point -

Bug Tracker
Good-Admin reacted to djpretzel for a topic
It's good to know it's being thought about and considered, but the explanation provided - while lengthy - wasn't particularly clear. Was the "fixed in version" field abandoned intentionally? If so, it sounds like the rationale in doing so was simply that it wasn't worth the effort to maintain? Were there any other reasons, or was that it?If not, is it coming back?At a time when there are more bugs and more versions, it seems like the field is all the more critical for clarity... Easy enough to just make that the default, then, but to still allow for more specific data if available...1 point -
Bug Tracker
Good-Admin reacted to DesignzShop for a topic
I stopped reporting massive amounts of bugs because I stopped seeing the "Fixed" tag. If I do not know if my bugs are being looked at or fixed and my times being wasted it appears it's time to stop, This new way of reporting must be too hip for me.1 point -
Feedback from development: BugBugFeature suggestion - shouldn't be an issue to do.BugYou can, through permissions, make it so people cannot upload images (thereby making it album only) and you can also turn off the ability to create albums (thereby making it image only). If this doesn't behave as expected, it would be a bug -- please file a bug report. As discussed, we agree and this will be revised - no ETA at this time.1 point

Trust me we are working hard on getting things sorted Keep in mind as much as issues are important to you... we are the ones who have to sort out all the requests coming in so we really want them fixed! Luckily we are finding that each release we make is improving things. It's so nice when you can reply to a support request with "try upgrading" and the client comes back saying that fixed it. So we really think that over the next few weeks things will really start to firm up. I'm sure everyone can agree things are already way better now than when we first released 4.0.0 just one month ago.1 point

Agree needs some work! Please add video link embeds as well! Members can upload videos but if we want video categories we should also have the ability to allow links to save on bandwidth. This would be a good category level feature. Thanks1 point

How do I access custom fields data externally?
GrooveOnBeat reacted to Vikestart for a topic
Just in case someone wants to know how to access a specific profile field, I'll post it here $member_pf = $member->profileFields(); echo $member_pf['core_pfieldgroups_3']['core_pfield_11']; As an example, that would echo the value of field 11, from within the 3rd field group. Thanks!1 point
