  1. I am a current user of IPB, VB, & Xenforo. Comparing support with all three, I would say I get great technical support from them all. However, they do not all handle support in the same fashion. To compare IPB support with others, you'd have to use their ticket support system to experience just how fast, detailed, & accurate the support really is. Their forums are not the official support outlet, as far as I'm aware. If you are happy with VB, great. It has it's own greatness and weaknesses as any of the competitors do. If you are considering IPB for it's own greatness, I would highly

  2. Remember that only customers can see the support forums so the OP could not have been talking about them. Hopefully the OP can clarify at some point. Forum support is provided as an extra convenience. Guaranteed support is in the ticket system.

  3. Hi, I'm sorry to hear that. Please bear in mind that official support is handled via our client area, where customers can expect prompt replies to their questions (we even provide an SLA so you can be sure of what to expect). Our forums are for informal support where time is not of the essence or where it's appropriate for other users to provide solutions. Hope that helps to explain what you see :) Regards, Rikki

  4. Let me get this straight, you'r not purchasing software based singularly on the response times of their staff? I agree that staff have not been as fast as usual but I do understand that they have just released a new version of the software with new skin editor, admin cp, skin, post editor and such. IPS have been very fast with their ticket responses for me and have resolved all my issues. If you look at the bug tracker, they must have fixed around 500-600 bugs since the 3.2 release in July. Also can you give me an example where an IPS staff member has "bashed" someones post?

  5. The point is that the ticket system (great as it is) is invisible to anyone who isn't a licensed customer. The only thing a potential customer can go on is what they see in the forums, and - no disrespect to the IPS staff - there are often cases where the only visible support is pier-to-pier - and even cases where no support is forthcoming at all; and there's nothing like an unresponded support request for giving the wrong impression. This is why I advised the possible name change above; so the impression of the support FORUM is as a general (basic) support point and not a primary one. P

  6. I can't find this in the marketplace. This is a very useful potential feature that would prevent many board issues (loss of incriminating evidence e.g. due to staff members gone astray, irrecoverable important information, etc.). I'm sure if someone created a mod for this they would get paid handsomely for it. Ideal features include (but are not limited to) the following: capability for unlimited number of history entries of any size (obviously within external limits) recorded in raw BB&HTML. accessible regardless of whether the "edited by" line is displayed (e.g. could be a simple link

  7. Having a next step after registration is complete could be very helpful to end users. Optionally call it a New Member "To Do" List. Include a list of optional things they could do to make their experience in the community more personal. First in the list should be to verify their email (If admin required). Optional ideas like uploading an avatar, filling out the about me for the profile, and any other "To Do" ideas you'd like to present to new members to help get them started. This idea could also be included in a new Personalized User Entrance Page. Show the new users what they can or s

  8. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm fed up with having to chase myself around my own forum trying to figure out what's been posted and where. IPDownloads, despite asking for it some time ago, still doesn't have any subscription options for comments, and I know we should really be looking at a seperate vote for them, but subscription options are closely related to notifications anyway. Please vote here if you would like to see notification defaults introduced for existing members in the same way it's already present for new members. There could even be an option available in the users C

  9. I was considering buying IP Board Enterprise and after reading through your community forums and seeing "real time" how the staff handles questions, ... I will stick to vBulletin 4. I get my questions answered the same day. Glad I took a look around before purchasing and got a first hand look at how IP handles their current customers, responds to questions and slams posts. They just lost a potential customer! And no I do not work for VB, I was extremely serious about using your product on for my forum that has over 60,000 members. Ross MacLane Founder - FileMaker Today .Com

  10. Wouldn't it be cool if he had this as a default option (without having to install it as a mod) ie. be able to assign a custom icon to each subforum? Just thinking out loud. :)

  11. Hi, I already posted about this and I think this should be added with an option to turn it off. If some want want to use it they can turn it on, if don't, then just turne it off ... simple and easy! There are lot's of features that are less important than this on and exists (for me). I use the mod posted here and it has saved me hours of troubles since some members just try to make ports about trips they made (with photos and movies) and after a few changes they just screw up the posts. If this does not exists how can I help them? With this, I just need to recover the last "good" posts

:o Gobsmacked by the attitude in this post would be putting it politely you sir/madam need to take some more valium or whatever you were prescribed ! Michael works his butt off and bends over backwards to help people with even the stupidist of questions, on more than one occassion I myself have wondered where he gets his patience. Rather than make a spectacle of yourself with such a public outburst and attack on what is a very good natured man perhaps a PM would have been more appropriate voicing your unhappiness and coming to a mutual resolution ? A measly 50 bucks does not give anyone th

  13. I will have to disagree with this. The Ipb staff is very efficient, professional and takes real good care of their customers. P.s. Can you please post the links to those topics where according to your claims, the Ipb staff is "slamming posts" btw?

Because I'm apparently a jackass, is that the point you're trying to get across? EDIT: It should also be noted, this was not the exact same issue as Gerry's. You were asking for a fix for this problem, not just a way to stop showing this. I have no fix yet because I haven't started work on the next beta yet. When I have a fix, it will be included in the next beta. If you want a refund for what you paid for this application, just let me know. Apparently making 15,000 posts on this site is not enough to prove to you that I'm someone who does support my work.

  17. Could I suggest that the support forum be renamed to "IP.Board General Support" because that's pretty much what it is, and it is obviously giving the wrong impression if people think it is the primary support system. Maybe the description could be updated with a clear link to the client area ticket support system for anything that needs urgent attention or is important to the running of your board; maybe with an indication that this is the primary support system for current license holders. Cheers, Shaun :D

  18. The OP might have misunderstood something that many of us are aware of only because we've been here long enough to know the ropes. Maybe there's a better way to clarify the support forums situation to avoid this.

  19. I do like the idea but has already been said there's potential to store a huge amount of data. Regarding pruning older saved revisions this could work although those who are aware of it could repeatedly edit their post to 'prune' it. My thought about this is it should *always* save the first initial post (if not say the first three) then the last couple too. I think if it was ever implemented it would have to be both forum and group selectable too.

  21. or... for that matter... i can just make it a single template hook yall can use in any ipcontent database and leave it to you to specify url(enforced) width/posts count to show/theme(optional) in the template call... thinking that with some documentation of use seems best route.... as i can really never truly know where/what one would use it on(database independence kinda means it could look wonky if ran off a setting.... or what specific options they would want from it.... hell, it could be used on an ipc page ala page template sans Any database at this point.

  22. there is english section on the forum and other day dev responded within hour to my post. I had used for months on 3.14 with 0 issues just now installed on 3.2.2 so my testing is limited.I never thought to look at what 0 (I always ran 5 edits-30 days) does there and have not tried using phpadmin to do it so I can't really say. running on 3.2.2 for last few days no issues

    Media System

Thank you for the help!! I also sent a support ticket in and here is what they found: Ryan Ashbrook 08 September 2011 - 05:23 PM Hello, There were multiple issues... 1. You were displaying both the Media database as well as Articles in index.html. IP.Content requires each database to be displayed on one page only in order to determine the proper location... otherwise it'll just stick with whatever page it finds first. (in this case, index.html). I removed the Media Demo database from the index.html page, which allowed it to find the correct page the demo is on. 2. The .htaccess

  25. 1. "Rate the user" (the five stars). Is there any point having this functionality? 2. User Tools - Display Name History. I would like to see this as a small icon (hover on username to view it) beside the username / display name instead of the current placement. Clicking on it would display the pop-up. 3. Age and Birthday is uknown. Why show it in profile? Contact Information should not show either if theres nothing. 4. Blog / Gallery / Files tabs. If they don't have anything to show, the tabs should not be there in first place. 5. Posts and Topics tab should have a "View more" that should

  26. Space used would be greatly reduced by only keeping the relevant changed information. If a post is modified to make a spelling correction then it is not necessary to store to nearly identical copies of the post, just the original post and the information needed to know what modifications were made to it (position & what text was removed, position & what text was added).

  29. I understand you wanting consistency, but consider usability. If you're actively looking for NEW content, as people using VNC obviously are, why not make it as easy as possible for them to get to the first unread post by simply clicking on the thread title (as they've been used to doing for the past two years) Plus there's inconsistency all over 3.2 anyway (mobile skin - clicking on any topic title takes you to first unread rather than first post; star symbol is used to indicate unread posts in mobile skin but star indicates having posted in a topic in the full skin; some buttons have hovero

  30. No, just put a conditional on it and don't show anything there if there is no image. We have a couple specific forums in which members share photos and write ups of their projects. A very heavy percentage of the topics in those forums do indeed have images in the OP, it's kind of the point. Don't dismiss how much more of a role images have in conversations on the web now. :) Many people have been trained by facebook and are starting to use their smartphone more and more to take quick shots and upload them for their friends to see exactly what they are talking about in their topic.
