1. I get nothing bu fast courteous replies and help from the sales staff and technicians here at Invision. I just bought another Invision license along with a bunch of other products and within 24 hrs it is up and running! I have never been told no or wait until... I will admit when 3.0 came out I did not like it at all but now I am a huge fan of Invision and no forum software comes close. A lot of my friends who swore by V bulletin are selling or have sold there licenses and making the move over here. Keep up the good work and Invision developers keep trying new things. Now all I have to do is learn IP content and Blog and the 3.2 software. I guess I am not sleeping for a few days :)

  2. Rather than using categories for this, which gets annoying and difficult to maintain, I'd like to implement stronger support for custom field filtering and searching. i.e. allow you to filter based on custom fields in the listing, and allow you to choose custom fields when you are searching. This would allow you to select the version(s) you wish to see and filter appropriately, but wouldn't be limited to just versions.

  3. Can be very interesting to have a hook in post, that allow staff to "move" or "promote" post as a new issue in IP.Tracker

    Marketplace organization

Hello, This is just an idea, but wouldn't it look better if in the IPS Marketplace, we first had an option to choose which version of IP.Board we're running ? What i mean by this is 2 categories instead of 1 global, one for the 3.1.x and one for the 3.2.x , this would give a cleaner look to the marketplace, rather than having to see each mod's version compatibility. - Jeuhen

  5. There is no longer a setting to mark a forum as read-only, because you can accomplish the exact same thing with permissions (as you've already done). It was rather pointless having two ways to make a forum read-only (given that the setting did virtually nothing else than override the permissions tab).

    Admin Notification

I have sketched my idea of how i think the admin notification could be improved. As you can see the top admin area would have icons of each module indicating new items requiring attention/approval etc. Admins wouldn't have to search deep in the ACP structure for items requiring approval etc. All new modules would then be able to use this interface. I don't know how to program it but it would definitely make my life of an admin easier :)

    3.2 Avatars...

I don't know how you manage to continue to make all these incredible comparisons and make it seem like all hell has been lost due to a little avatar. From what I've read there has been various edits given to change what your asking. This isn't 1990 anymore, the age of some users having a 50 x 90 avatar and others with like 150 x 150 is over. phpBB3 still does it and you can tell by the poorly managed user_panes. Consistency is the key :P

    IPB CSS Sprites

File Name: IPB CSS Sprites File Submitter: Hultenius. File Submitted: 11 Jan 2011 File Category: Performance Supported Versions: IP.Board 3.1.x Introduction IPB CSS Sprites is an application for Invision Power Board that allows you to create and use CSS sprites on your board. The configuration process is very easy, all you have to do is to list all images that you want in the CSS sprites and push a button, the application takes care of the rest. If you use the standard skin things get even easier since you will be provided with a finished and optimized configuration. Features Faster loading time The total loading time (not render time) for new visits will be vastly improved. Decreased server load Since fewer HTTP requests means less work for the web server, using CSS sprites will vastly decrease server load for busy boards. Slightly better SEO Google loves fast loading websites and use the speed as a small factor in their ranking algorithm. Slightly faster rendering All images that are included in a CSS sprite have fixed width and height. This will help the browser to render pages slightly faster. Instant hover effect Your buttons will not flicker when you move your mouse over them. Requirements IPB 3.1.x PHP 5.2 or newer PHP extensions: cURL, GD2 Installation . Known issues - Custom sprites cannot be created, yet - PNG-images of type grayscale-alpha are not supported - Animated images are not supported - Only one skin can be use css sprites - Old sprite images are not removed, fixed in 1.0 [*]Transfer the files to your IPB installation. [*]Log in to ACP, click on "Manage Applications & Modules" and install "CSS Sprites" (bottom of the page). [*]If some files/folders are not writable (you get a message), make them writeable (chmod 777). You might want to change the permission back to 644 for publicOutput.php after the installation if you care about security. But please note that you wont be able to use the auto-install hook feature if this file is not writable. [*]Configure the sprites. Optimized configurations for the standard skin (IPB 3.1.x) can be found here [url= here to download this file

    3.2 Avatars...

Really disappointed in this, in fact I'm debating upgrading to 3.2 at the moment because I got no end of complaints when avatars in topic view were restricted to 100x100 - nevermind 90x90! I understand that we can increase this limit by a few edits - which is good, but if uploaded photos are simply stretched to accommodate the edit, then this will lead to very ugly forums. I hope it can be readdressed by Invision... Cheers

Sorry for the late reply, I gotta remember to check the IPS forums more frequently. Yes, you DO get a free upgrade, however, I don't know how I can distribute that here, but on my website I can keep track of that for you. PM me if you want to discuss this further so I can give you your free upgrade!

  12. I agree this is very confusing - and feels fractured. Also even FREE downloads should reside in my Client Area so I know what I downloaded (and potentially have installed on my site) the only thing that shows up now are the paid apps.

  13. Would this, or could this have some form of bounce email management built-in - I usually send out a mail every week to our users and I can guarantee that I get at least 20 mails back telling me the mail was undelivered due to the account being disabled or discontinued. If a member was automatically unsubscribed from the newsletter list on a bounce like that, you'd be on to a winner me thinks! :)

  14. Almost done. Just need to rewrite the ACP skin stuff (joyful, joyful). I'm hoping tomorrow, as that's the only thing left to do. I was hoping to make it so one distribution could support both 3.1 and 3.2, but pretty much given up getting that to work

hi Tom, wouldn't it be better if you'd use a real version number? I've noticed that you've updated your skin three times, but kept the version number on 3.2. Skin looks great though. Still waiting for your other skin to be released before I decide which one to buy (y)

This app is, for all intents and purposes, exactly the same as IP.Subscriptions. All you need to do when you upgrade your board is upgrade this too, and everything will carry over.

    3.3 Suggestions

Facebook gets a lot of attention, but they account for only about 10% of www traffic. Which platform accounts for more? Wordpress, or about 15% of all www. Google loves blogs. Google loves WP. Not Wordpress related, but It's not all about text. Readers and advertisers expect a richer graphic experience. Most forum content has changed little since days. Gallery is making progress, but adding images has to be drop-dead simple. Want to find a successful forum? Find one with a lot of user generated images. Finally, reputation needs to be leveraged more. It ought to be displayed prominently in the user info pane of every post by default. It should be searchable and rankable. SO much more could be done with it. See for reputation done right (including awards). Richer platform feedback leads to richer user interaction. Wow, indenting is horribly broken. I gave up. [*]Facebook has a plugin that allows you to comment on Wordpress using your Facebook login. Why doesn't allow IPS offer a plugin allowing comments using your forum login? While IP.Content might be seen as a competing platform, MANY IP.Board forums are married to a Wordpress blog. IPS/WP integration would promote more commenting. [*]Why isn't there a plugin that allows IP.Board forum posts to be promoted to a Wordpress blog as a post? Selected usergroups could be presented a "promote to blog" button. Click on a post, add an image via the forum interface, viola new Wordpress blog post regarding a popular or engaging forum post. BBS http://stackexchange.com/

  28. I have updated this and I will re-release it. I've stated you were the original coder and I will be keeping it as a free modification. This will be the first time I've uploaded a hook, so lets hope it goes well! I tried to upload it as a new Hook but community.invisionpower.com keeps going up and down like a yo-yo, and I've been trying for well over an hour now. I found that there is only 1 LINE that needs changing. Download this mod and edit this line: $r['member_name'] = IPSLib::makeNameFormatted($r['member_name'], $r['member_group']);
Replace with:
$r['member_name'] = IPSMember::makeNameFormatted($r['member_name'], $r['member_group']); Simple as that. It works for me now.

  31. I might use this in the future if it can sync more things like allowing wordpress articles to be posted on the forum. Comments on that article go into that topic and comments in the topic go to the article. So you only need to post on the forum or the article and you post will show on both.

  32. That's why everyone I know loves facebook. It's a clean interface that shows them a feed of all their friends activities. Some even use their cell phones to alert them of updates made on facebook. Personally, I only use it for our business. I deleted my personal account a long time ago so that my time and updates are posted on my own sites instead of Facebook or Twitter. Forums are great for topical discussions, yes. But, some people would also like to be able to follow updates of just their friends. People make connections in forums. It would be nice if they could keep up with those connections in a more personal level instead of saying "Hey, follow me on Twitter." or "Hey, friend me of Facebook". It would be great if they could stay connected on that personal level in the forum community instead of having to go to other sites to do so. Just my humble opinion...

    3.2 Avatars...

Exactly, that's the reason why unique avatars should stay unique without them being cropped at 90% of the whole software while in profile-view they look like they should. Can you even imagine the outcry of a community if there avatars look dull or even stupid from one day to another? Many users identify others by their unique avatars. Now if it's being cropped and resized this may look completely out of place. Example -> Avatars currently allowed 300 x 150. Now -> 90 x 90 Not funny, not at all funny. Consistency, yes. But not sameness. I would really like to see the option to have avatars in any size I want. If they break my layout, this is my problem and nobody else's.

    3.2 Avatars...

What are you talking about? I'm a very extensive user of Adobe Photoshop, and the edit that changes the default size of the photo-avatar forces every photo-avatar to 200x200. It does not make any distinction to the original size. Now, when you import an image into Photoshop and the default image is 200x200, when you take that image and expand it to 400x400, the image becomes distorted. This edit for the default size of the photo-avatar does not make allowances for the default size of an avatar. Peaches, if you imported a photo that serves as your avatar, and the original "resolution is 100x100 or 150x100, the edit doesn't make allowances for the original size of your avatar, it simply applies the new 200x200 edit to your avatar and this expands the size of your avatar without making allowances or respecting the original resolution. When you edit in Photoshop, say your image is 200x150 and you want to ensure that the proper aspect ratio is consistant, you select the option to "constrain" the image so that your image retains its original aspect and so it won't become distorted. You cannot simply take an image that is 200x150 and change the image to 100x100 because the image is going to become distorted. All I'm saying is that the edit provided here does not respect the original size of each avatar and simply applies that 200x200 edit to every avatar, regardless of its size or resolution. If you knew anything about properly editing images and retaining its original width to height, you would know this. Instead, you lash out when someone is trying calmly explain the issue? DOn't bring your drama in here just to start an argument.

Is there a way to add a free subscription? I use paypal only, and when I create a package with $0.00 cost the transaction can not complete. I would like an automatic way to provide a free trial package. Also, how do I make the subscription a one time only? Thanks, for cont. the work on this app, hope to see more.

  37. Matt I would disagree with you in the sense that it is in topic view where we usually see the avatars/photos that a member uses. We use forum software mainly to read topics not to visit user profiles (at least in my case). In my opinion you can't justify the change because Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Linkedin do it this way as this is a forum, those are not. The little perk of a slightly larger image on the avatar/photo is used by many of us for special groups, people that donate money, etc. If it is important for some administrators to have uniform avatar/photos sizes they already had that option and they still do. But for those of us that wanted to have different sizes the option was completely taken away. It is not as simple as increasing the size of the thumbnail as then again, it would be a one size fits all which most of the people in this topic are not after; plus a bit of an annoyance to have to modify the files. Notice I am not talking about most users of IPS as I do understand that the majority of the users do not post here.

    Mod Notifications

Small compatibility update for 3.2 released... mostly updating the installation instructions. Since I know somebody is going to try using it without reading the directions, I'll say the same here: After the hook is installed, go to Admin CP > Members > Members > Notification Default. The added notifications should display at the bottom of the list. Customize the default settings if you would like, then save the settings. The notifications will not work until you do so. Something changed in 3.2 such that notifications have to be in the system settings cache, but I don't seem to be able to update that cache as part of the installation process.

  43. I plan on including Calendar and Gallery integration eventually. Currently I am working on re-doing a good amount of the backend framework to make the entire application easily integrated with other applications with an addon. It should allow for other developers to integrate their applications to be compatible with Social Groups without requiring the core of the application to be edited. It will also enable me to integrate Social Groups with various other IPS applications more easily and efficiently. I am aware that my server is down right now (and has been for like 8 hours at this point), apparently there was a rather large DDOS attack on it and it is being restored from a backup currently. It should be back up in a few hours.. sorry for the inconvenience.

  44. This is something I personally would have liked to have done, but unfortunately time got the better of us (and it was never discussed internally anyway - not everyone would share my opinion ;) ). I think it'd be useful to give members a way to immediately fill in some important profile information.
