(5.0.8) Changing avatars from round to square doesn't apply to widgets

At first I thought the v5 round/square avatars toggle in Theme Editor → Global → Avatars wasn't working becuase the avatars in widgets such as Recent Achievments and Most Contributions don't change shape. However the avatar on the user menu at the top of the page does immediately change when you use the toggle. The widgets seem to be locked as square.
