preparing to switch to BB storage move a few local paths but have not see any traffic pushed to BB which tasks is it that initiates the push?

  • Community Expert

There will be background tasks in ACP -> System -> Dashboard -> Background Processes which will initiated this process. If these are not moving, please check your System Logs.

Thanks @jim - i can now confirm there are files there however a few items show missing image, is there another task that will refresh the path to the new location?

A few advertisements are showing broken along with calendar cover images.

You will want to await the process to complete.

There is a bug with filet transfers with ICC. Not sure whether it applies to Classic/Self Hosted as well or not. See my topic here. @Daniel F applied a patch to my site and instructed that a fix would be included in the next release. If you can't wait for the next release, maybe you might create a support ticket and inquire if you could get the patch beforehand.

So the task completed and I did som spot checks of being able to download files. - it appears however that all PDF's that download are corrupted, and will not open.

Is there any recommended remedy?

Ok now my profile photos are not showing up after I waited for hours it uploading to BB. Can I get someone to submit this as a ticket.

  • Community Expert

Do you have an example of missing profile photos? Unfortunately, in a quick glance, I am not seeing any issues.

Yes mine I just looked at BB bucket for the folder - 2020_09 and on my site it didn't upload my images I don't see them but they seem to be left over in the old upload profile location

I am afraid there are many others that have not been uploaded as I am going thru the date stamped folders seeing leftovers in there - I am not sure if they are orphaned images or failed uploads?

I am a bit apprehensive now to push the full attachments.

I'll add that too I am concerned that the PDFs from my downloads section are not valid after downloading they are broken.

It looks like the files on the server (after pulling them back to local storage) most of the pdfs are missing the extension.

Including zip files.

If you are trying to revert things, I would advise reverting to backup rather than trying to move a failed move back. Otherwise you are moving back items you know already to be broken.

So interestingly the file names of the backup and the restored items looked identical. If I was to remove the uid at the end or append the proper extension the file was valid. I did restore the backup even though they look the same and now the download looks to be downloading valid stripping the UID of the end.

In latest v4 can I be confident that pushing the main Attachments up to BB is safe? Since people post files to be downloaded from forum posts? Is that code base different than the downloads app?

This is intentional because of security reasons, the software should rename it before it’s sent to the user

Can I go forward pushing the attachments?

If you have a lot of attachments, you may wish to move these manually. However, you can certainly try to move these via the system, just ensure you have a backup.

I am just curious in one iteration of IPB the attachments folders were named monthly_mm_yyyy and at some point it was standardized to monthly_yyyy_mm looking at the attachments directory I have a mix of both, are the prior just leftovers of some upgrade or are they still valid directory with attachments.

If I use the system to upload I assume it would ignore orphaned attachments, where if I push up the entire thing manually and there are indeed leftovers, I wouldn't know and perpetually paying for BB of these files.

If you have been using the software for quite some time, you will see both iterations and they both have valid attachments in them still.

So are you saying that I can SFTP a copy of the attachments merging folders up to BB then switch the endpoint configuration to BB and the system will switch location but not actually upload files?

You will want to check with Backbaze how to upload but you can manually upload them to there storage, when changing storage configurations in the ACP, make sure to disable at the bottom to have the system move the files. As always, take backups.
