Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted May 8May 8 I am moving old cpanel server/os to a new Rocky Linux - the default has MariaDB should I switch to MySQL or stick with Maria? ( still on v4 will upgrade once I move )
Friday at 03:37 PM4 days Author Thanks @Marc Does v4 work on Maria? I am kind of in a stuck state - I am standing up this new server with a copy of v4 on the site but of course it has Maria on it. when I go to the directory I just see "not supported" My goal is just to move to a new server then upgrade to v5.When I looked at cpanel they have this big warning that MySQL is not supported, and considered a downgrade. based on this https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/481462-maria-db-for-ic-5/#findComment-2989802was hoping it was promising. My hosting provider mentioned I could go with some managed database cluster (probably at more expense)
Friday at 04:08 PM4 days Community Expert MariaDB is a drop-in replacement for MySQL and it will work with both version 4 and 5. However, we specifically optimize for MySQL so while MariaDB may work, if you have a heavily trafficked site, it may encounter performance issues where our suggestion may just be to switch to MySQL to take advantage of those optimizations which MySQL has.

My community is version 4.7 and working fine (except yesterday, I encountered a problem with splitting a topic, but I think it was related to a server problem).MariaDB is an opensource version of MySQL. It is compatible with MySQL databases. SQL commands, data types are the same. Your MySQL databases can be transferred to MariaDB without any modifications. All you will have to do is restore your backups in CPanel. It worked just fine for my board and a few Joomla websites.I prefered not to switch to MySQL and gave MariaDB a try, since it was the default installation on my new server. Moreover, trying first to use MySQL instead of MariaDB messed things (I got error messages) and I'm not good enougth to fix this kind of server problems.
