In version 5, that's actually very simple to achieve. The only difference in ours, is we have a change to move the sidebar to the left instead of the right.

1 - Go to Pages>Databases in your admin CP, and create a new database named Guides. On the Display tab, set the Category Listing Layout to be "grid" and the index type to be "Category Listing"

2 - Edit the categories and name as appropriate

3 - Go to Pages>Page Management>Pages, and click the page editor icon next to the guides page

4 - Drag the database navigation widget to the sidebar

5 - Click finish editing

6 - Refresh the page, which allows it to build the menu

i had one I was play with before so I can share it here, go to acp pages databases and upload if you want to try out

⚠️ Note: v5.x database ((( NOT 4.x ))

You can download the database here --> Guides.xml
Follow Marc's step 4,5,6 step to get the database menu :)
