April 27Apr 27 This has not been around for quite some time. Since version 3 or even later than that, if memory serves. You likely were using a third-party modification if you had this in version 4.
April 27Apr 27 Author Yes, we lost it when upgrading to 4.x. And have been struggling with the consequences since. And hoping it would return. My question was why it was removed?
April 28Apr 28 The honest answer to that question, is it wasnt. Version 4 was essentially a completely new platform written from the ground upward, and why it was named invision community, rather than the old IP.Board. So its more than it just wasnt added. Feel free to add a request for this within our feedback area
April 28Apr 28 Something removed literally 10 years ago is causing serious issues? Sounds like you need to look into a third party resource being developed.
April 29Apr 29 Author 3.party is really not an option for something as critical as permissions. If anyone is interested I can explain why it was, and still is, a huge loss for us who relied on it for more than a decade. But I'm still curious to why an important functionality like this it was removed. To my knowledge without any further notice or previous discussion.Same happened with permission masks. We lost a large forum because this was dropped. On 4/28/2025 at 11:56 AM, Marc said:The honest answer to that question, is it wasnt. Or that we, at least, have an explanation to why it is removed? Edited April 29Apr 29 by Canis

If it is critical to yourself, there are means via third party developers to have it built in, otherwise, as mentioned, if you create a Feedback topic, it will be reviewed for a future release.39 minutes ago, Canis said:Or that we, at least, have an explanation to why it is removed?Worth noting that you posted in support. As the feature doesn't exist, we cannot really comment on a decade plus old feature or the future of it returning. That is best suited for posting in the Feedback forum.
May 1May 1 Author Ok, I notice that you are not able to explain why it was removed. Information on this is important as to whether it worth suggesting it in Feedback. On 4/29/2025 at 6:46 PM, Jim M said:It's worth noting that each customer has their own definition of "critical functionality"I feel confident that most customers would see permissions as critical functionality.
May 1May 1 If this is critical to you, please submit a Feedback topic or I can move this topic. Without a topic in Feedback, it will not be considered further, I'm afraid. This topic has reached its conclusion here though in Support as we have explained though.
