ACP => Members => groups (group 21) => Social Tab

Profile parameter settings are missing for this group. (The topmost section appearing there is 'Messages'.) I am also experiencing another inexplicable problem with this group (a third-party addon does not appear for this group, and for only this group). I'll detail that later (assuming the fix for the missing profile parameters does not resolve the issue).

You have permissions for profiles switched off at a module level for that group, in Applications->System->Profiles (lock icon)

Well, well. I had no idea that area even existed. I've certainly not changed anything there. Thanks for the heads-up!

Someone has changed at least one of those at some point. Once there is permission removed from one, any new group wont have that permission unless you explicitly set it

Hmm.

When changing the permission for Group 21, I noticed a few other we not quite right so adjusted them. I cannot be sure which I changed now. So I've taken a look at the other permissions, and they do not not make sense. I cannot point to a new group where permissions changed - there is inconsistency.

There are other admins, but they never touch anything to do with permissions So I am at a loss to explain this. But, again, thanks for the heads-up.

The default would be switched on for all items in all modules, 'unless' you change any. Once you switch off permission for an item, it then sets the default as off for all new groups going forward
